basicly you only need the skill to use a warp scrambler and you can start pvp.. minmitar ships like rifter and thrasher are good ships to start pvping with.

Get a Rifter(best t1 frig in the game IMO) and some basic skill's learn how can agro works and go out can flipping. Also find a good pirate corp that takes newbies that will help allot.

takes a lot of trial and error, very careful target selection, and you will fail sometimes, but it's the best way to make real friends and to really experience the game. Just make sure you talk in local and have fun with it, enjoy your friends and your enemies. :D "SPEED + GANK = SPANK... Spank that ***** up" |

Hey, Burn Mac! Good to see you're doing well!
Could you possibly find the article you wrote chronicling your early exploits and link it here for Artaanis? I understand he is interested in getting an early start in PvP and your articly had a lot of good stuff in it for the fledgling young PvPer.

Fixed it for you
Tho he makes a point get a rifter or incursis, get cheap t1 mods, get into low-sec, learn how to scan people out, and practice with fits.
You will lose alot of ships in the begining but will gain skill, and have lots of fun. Also watch your sec if you don't have an alt.

Fraps your solo-fights... but not for e-peen waving. I've found going over the footage, combined with a bit of data mining on Battleclinic, to be invaluable when figuring out W3 (What Went Wrong).
As mentioned, get some logistics in place if you aren't part of an established pirate corp. An alt which can fly in a frigate from Empire and contract it to you is required if your sec status drops too low.

Even big established corps need tacklers, which only takes a frigate, a warp disruptor, and an afterburner (or idealy a microwarp drive). The problem is that most big established corps don't want to be bothered with new players, but there are some out there... ç¦ |

Edited by: Sola Sun on 22/10/2008 08:27:17 Imagine if fresh player in Ultima Online could prevent target from recalling and running... you got the idea.
Basic tacklers exp was about 150k skill points (microwarp drive + propulsion jamming + frigate skills). Before 2007 fresh character started with 50-90k SP, and it took like 10 days. Now I think you can do it with a fresh created character (~1M SP), maybe spending a day or 2.

Basic skills required for PVP: propulsion jamming - allows use of warp scramblers/disruptors (prevents warp), stasis webifiers(slows down sublight speed) high speed maneuvering - allows use ov microwarp drive(sublight speed boost module)
Basic skills required for general in EVE: Mechanic - moar Armor HP Hull Upgrades - moar Hull HP(or the other way around with those two) Shield Management - moar Shield HP Engineering - moar PowerGrid Output Electronics - moar CPU Output Energy Management - moar Capacitor capacity( @ lvl 4 use of micro auxiliary power core, very very good module for frigs, @ lvl 5 use of skill thermodynamics - very very very powerfull skill, witch can diverse the outcome of a battle - allows the deliberate overheating of guns/e-war,propulsion/tanking modules to out of their normal limits to more efective, causes heat damage to modules Energy System Operation - better capacitor recharge time Navigation - moar speed Acceleration Control - moar moar speed Gunnery - moar damage
All of these skills are more or less in different categories, and there are a lot of skills around them... those are support skills train support skills to get better effectiveness in general. Always read description of skill if not sure what it do(get EVEMon if hasnt already - usefull app for skill queing information)
now a bit of personal observation about attack choices: Guns > Drones > Missiles - but it varies about the ship and bonuses E-war is not effective if on a not on a dedicated e-war ship, too many e-war on other ship can make it ineffective, cant jamm/damp/TP target to death....
Dont mix gun ranges/sizes/ammo. Dont mix tanks.

Who said anything about respect Though he has a couple of good points learn to scan and fit ships
Low sec is cool but being new you will loose allot of ships to guys like Kailiao and pals so a ransom on a hulk or 2 will put some isk in your wallet before you do that.

The general advice is a good advice: YES YOU CAN.
But! do not start randomly and get head ackes due to all the information your head will absorb in the first week of eve, trying to do your best to learn pvp and be good at it.
1. Run some combat mission for one to maybe two weeks. a. During this time you will lose less T1 frigates, learn a bit about how the game works, mouse movement, targetting, speed... it is just like when you buy a new car, you will not drive at your best in it the first 2 days. b. This will bring a bit if isk (cash) into your pockets to afford a few T1 frigates and modules to fit them with. c. Time enough for you to train for webbing and scrambling.
2. Join up a training/learning corporation like the Eve University for example or a more combat oriented one. Here is where I advertise my corp, SniggWaffe is a training corporation for sniggerdly (a known pirate corporation).

Sniggwaffe is recruiting. Visit channel "join sniggwaffe" in game.
