Was wondering what ships will be the best for soloing in 0.0 after the patch (nerfs). Mainly to solo 0.0 gates - have been doing it in dps ships but mostly in speed ships (vaga and stabber mostly)

Last I heard the speed nerf had been pulled and was being rebalanced/revaluated... Maybe I missed some news, but with any luck it has gone to that special 'review' place along with the carrier fighter nerf that got pulled and has never been heard of again (the one where you could only use 5 fighters unless you assigned some) ç¦ |

Uh that's wrong. The nano nerf is definitely coming, it's been confirmed by multiple updates, live dev blogs, etc despite the whining of the majority of forum users. It's currently on sisi and is updated/tweaked nearly every day.
The nano nerf is nothing like the Carrier Fighter nerf. The fighter nerf was announced, there was a huge outcry from the playerbase, and ccp pretty much immediately pulled it by saying they were moving it back to the "special place."
The nanonerf was announced, there was a huge outcry from the playerbase, and ccp pretty much immediately confirmed their intention to balance the game and continue with the changes despite protests, and that you needed to get over it.
The difference between the two nerfs is pretty apparent. The problem with carrier's fighters was not with the carriers themselves or their DPS or any of those things, it was the grid-lag fighter swarms created when you got 50+ carriers/moms together on the same grid. since drones are server controlled they could continue to deal full dps despite the players themselves having 5-10min of grid load lag, meaning fleets who jumped into a fighterswarm would be dead before they even loaded grid. They reviewed other options, but what they decided to go with seemed to be the most fair. As a reminder, it was going to be: Carriers could only control 5 fighters at a time. They could still have all their fighters out, but you had to have people to assign them to, meaning those ppl had to deal with grid load issues instead of the fighters autowinning the fight for them.
Another option, such as decreasing # fighters you could have out, but increasing their DPS to compensate, would of made the 5 fighters assigned to someone (for ratting, pvp, etc) too effective. They would have had to take away the ability to assign fighters, and losing functionality like that is definitely a nerf.
When CCP saw the outcry about the carrier nerf, they realized they needed to try another approach to fix the problem with fighterswarms. Again the problem wasn't with carriers, it was with lag. So the next patch, instead of a carrier nerf, we got the ability to remove brackets from the overview. Problem solved.
The problem with nanoships very much is that nanoships are broken and overpowered, and so speed is getting nerfed. If you still question if its happening or not, stop deluding yourself. -------------------------- NOTR How to Fail at Eve

A bit of a tank, some speed still to gtfo and a decent locking time. A HAC maybe for anything frig and cruiser sized? Or just a BC/BS with sensorbooster if you will meet other BS's most often but still want a chance vs smaller stuff.

The speed nerf is very much a true balance. There will be no one best ship for a while before people start exploiting small overlooked aspects of the game. |

I was just reading in the game developement section about the speed nerf. It is not complete yet, but it very much so looks like it is coming. I can tell you this, from what I read, I would NOT want to be the guy figuring out how to balance it...it's very involved with all of the things it is currently touching upon.
BTW: The carrier nerf was about players using the carrier for just about everything. They did not want "a catch all" end-game style ship, so they tried to remove certain abilities. As I have been wanting a carrier for over a year now I was very happy they decided NOT to change them.
I can find the original post on it if pressed for it.

If you want to fight over flight then you'll need double webs and decent 5+km dps, or be fast on AB while short range scramming them. Fast small ships or a nano equivalent; no idea yet.

my suggestion is to get back in empire and abuse wardec, before it gets nerfed.
