Any chance of this ship being jumpable? Low sec/0.0 mining with this thing in your fleet seems excessively risky considering it's so big it won't go into a ship maint bay of another capital.

Agreed, this would be very awesome and open up a lot of interesting possibilities, especially for solo or small corp play.
Quote: I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up with the same limitation on the ship bay as the Rorqual. So that it can only carry barges, exhumers, industrials and transport ships.
No... http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=904880
Would like to see a little improvement in capacity or hangar capacity and or an extra slow or a hardpoint, as described above. In turn, would be quite happy to accept a limit on the gang modules (so as not to make the Rorqual uncompetitive).
Yes, but I think the idea is to have mining barges and haulers in those bays, not other ships. This isn't something I think CCP wants to let corps use to transport ships in. It's a mining ship. However, there is some argument for it to be a transport ship as well so it's a possibility.

Screw that. REally, I would prefer transport ships rather than mining barge skills, and could say goodbye to the mining foreman links (which need mining director anyway). I have no plans to much extra mining in it, although it would be amusing to give it 5 lite mining drones in 1.0 and see how long it takes to fill the hold =)
I dunno, I think it should have some requirement to fill it's role. However, if this is the ship that is the midway cargo ship between industrial and freighters, then it wouldn't make much sense for additional reqs. But why include mining foreman and mining barge if not?

Edited by: Mankirks Wife on 24/10/2008 04:36:02 Hmm... my alt's got 42 days left on Gallente Freighter V, after that I may train him for this.
Not sold on it though - I don't really mine that much anymore, and it's a big expense - for the price tag of the hull it's worth putting T2 cargo rigs on it.
I think after an initial bump from the demand of people making them, this will cause highsec mineral prices to decline somewhat, since every serious miner will have one in their fleet since they do double duty as command ships and haulers. More ore, less risk (no cans to flip) = lower prices. Maybe this is a good time to get out of the ore trading business?
As for ships, you can already move unpackaged ships via freighter by putting them in courier packages first... ---

Sounds more like they're thinking of delimiting the Rorqual. |

you have to consider that ccp will probably be releasing the ship nerfed and will probably boast it after a few months of being active on TQ, better to release a ship nerfed then boast than the other way round just like they have with black-ops |

Let's see if I got the bonus math correct assuming the following...
Mining Foreman lvl 5 Mining Director lvl 5 Leadership lvl 5 Warfare Link Specialist lvl 5 Mining Foreman Mind Link plugged
With the above we have a 22.5% bonus to the mining team. This is where I am at the moment with my Vulture running 3 mindlinks.
Now, with this new ship, we apparently get a 3% bonus to the foreman gang links per level...
That is a 15% bonus to the gang links at lvl 5 Industrial Command Ship...
Does that yield a total collective bonus of 25.875% (22.5% times 1.15) Is this how the added 3% per level will work?
Someone with a better head on their shoulders please advise. |

Edited by: Krylon Rhae on 24/10/2008 09:11:26 Does anyone know what rank the new skill will be? I am assuming that it would be between Industrials (rank 6) and Freighters (rank 10)... maybe 8, on par with a BS. Thoughts?
Level 5 would be in the neighborhood of between 35 and 40 days.

I did not see in above posts the possibility of using t2 mining drones. With 50 m3 in drone bay you can hold 5 t2 mining drones to get that little extra ore during mining ops and have room for 5 t2 light combat/ew drones. Awesome job CCP, many thnx in the name of us Industrials. |

Would be cheaper than marauder for that also it has not enough hi slots and too big cargo bay (u need max ~3200 m3 in the bulkiest missions).
It seems to be good ship tho. Will have one after it comes out. 90 000 m3 and battleship like agility. Hell yess!. Not to mention smallish ship maintenance array. |

Edited by: McFly on 24/10/2008 10:48:24 Oh and for those guys that want to use this in a 1.0 with mining drones. I only have lvl 2 mining drones, so T1's for me grab 33m3 each, if I sit right on the roid and mine away it would take 11 hours to fill this thing with veld. really, really, really big waste of time.
So don't be ghey, I'll come suicide it just for an Orca kill if I see anyone doing this. |

Is there anyone else that thinks it's completely rediculus that a 400m ISK "Command" ship (the most expensive command ship available) can only mount one gang link? Yeah, I know the range and cap links are not as useful as Laser Optimization, but I'd still like the option of using them.
Or maybe this is CCPs way of forcing you into training Warfare Link Specialist V and blowing a mid slot and 150cpu on a Command Processor.

/agree... Precisely why I think I'll stick with my Vulture for boosting and train my hauler for the Orca assuming my math in a previous post above is correct. BTW... I use the laser Optimization with Shield Harmonizing and Active Shielding as opposed to the 3 mining links.

Bump the bandwidth up to 50 Mbit/sec. This thing should be able to let fly with 5 med drones at least.

The 5-t2 hammers will fit with the 50m3 drone bay but the 25 bandwidth will not allow you to fly all 5 of them at the same time. I agree the bandwidth should match the drone bay size. As an alternative, you could fit 5 light shield maint drones and 5 light ecm drones perhaps. But the bandwidth does not allow for 5 medium drones to fly... bummer

Nice thing about it is the fact it doesn't have to be in deployed mode to give the boosts...
this is a good point. but being as large as it is, with the hit points it has, it should be able to tank 0.5 rats long enough for help to arrive, if not perma-tank
This looks like a ship that any mining corp that has regular ops would be CRAZY not to invest in _____________________ *warp drive acti...wait, where are we going?*

Same armor/shield resists as a gallente non-t2 ship. DCU is a must for this thing, on SISI my megaT took an Orca out without a DCU in about 60 seconds, with a DCU it took 2 minutes 13 seconds to kill it. Edited by: Krylon Rhae on 24/10/2008 18:35:20 Thanks Crono... so the 3 mid slots could be a photon Scattering t2 hardener, Invulnerability t2 hardener, and large or x-large booster (or faction stuff). That should buy some time for the calvery to arrive. assuming your tanking shields and keeping the lows for expanders. |

Originally by: Mika Meroko I am kinda disappointed... for someone that can fly:
-a command ship (from the looks of it, a command ship would give higher bonus?....) -Obelisk (wayyy bigger hold) -Occators (26k cargo, 30k+ with cans and probley wayyy faster aligning and speed.)
the Orca seems .. well, tries to do all 3 and performing mediocrely......
the only thing going for it is the tractor beams/cans... but yeah, I use secure cans to mine... and you cant tractor anchored cans XD...
The only real use/niche I see the orca filling is trasnporting Rigged ships though high sec...
thats the only thing that no other ship can do....
The Orca will give better mining bonus at lev 1 because the ship type bonus over no bonus for the command ship. Also keep in mind. they have not said how many command mods it can run at once. The command ship and the Rorqual can run three before needing a command processor. From the looks of it the Orca will only be able to run 1. So to run more command mods in the high slot you will need to use up the few mid slots on the command processors.
To me this is a sad thing. I hope they allow it to run 3 command mods, like the Rorqual and command ship before needing the command processor.
INCONCIEVABLE!!!
Read before you post.
Ok I have a nice set up for my needs. The ship will not be so easy to gank in Empire now.
All I need to know is what are the shield and Armor base resist.
Thx much in advance

Dev response on the other thread says this is a bug and will be fixed. Will be able to run all 3 before it hits TQ.
They also said they are looking at the cargo capacity and considering the increased drone capacity (50Mbit and 75m3).

Not a bad move IMHO.. 5 med drones allows enough time for it to resist, allow dock ups, switch outs, or for help to arrive.
Cargo needs up as well, I'd even be for giving it a bonus on cargo expanders and not an inherent bonus so that pilots must choose between extra space or utility |

I had been hoping that this ship would allow it to sit in the belt with my hulks and stuff itself with ore to avoid the need to run back and forth to station/POS and save some hauling time and effort... essentially replacing the hauler.
As it is currently configured, the total storage area is just shy of 3 Iteron V hauler loads with a very large ship maintenance bay sitting there idle and unused during the op.
I was sleeping on this idea and would like to through this out for an airing. What if we had the ability to install special storage containers in the ship maintenance bay to allow them to hold ore during and extended op. The storage cans could be 100k each and could be added and delelted to meet the required need of the time. This would allow the orca to sit in system for a very long time and gorge itself on ore. The ore could then be placed into the corp hanger and then moved to the storage containers.
I am simply looking for a way to extend the usability of this ship and keep it on station providing boost and storage for as long a time as possible.
