Very true, they do bend when you run through them or drive over them. The so called "destructible environment" doesn't really exist either, you can break from some fences, some entrances are blocked by wood that needs to be destroyed, there are some crude huts (4 posts and a roof) that can be blown up but 90% of the things can't. No where near how destructible it was in Crysis.
They claimed what 50 hours of game play? So far it seems its that much because they place every objective across the whole map (Got to say the map is a pretty decent size). While driving from one objective another you pass at least 2-3 guard posts where they will always fire at you and if you dont kill them they hop in a car and chase you... Seems kind of pointless to have everyone attack you.
Theres mouse lag when I play in DX10, still some in DX9 but lots less.
I'm not very far at all in the game so it could change but I really doubt it so far from what I heard... It looks pretty though

Edited by: Benco97 on 23/10/2008 22:59:22 Yes, I'd also heard reports about those checkpoints and the random trucks driving around that attack you constantly. Still, surely the game has some good points? |

Edited by: Tzar''rim on 23/10/2008 23:22:27 For the little bit I've played it; it's not very good, or rather it's quite different from what I expected and I'm not sure I'm actually going to like it. The check points are a bit odd but you can eliminate those. It very much feels like Oblivion oddly enough; big map with lots of running around but no real progress.
Graphicswise it's amazing, it has so much detail that it's actually starting to become a nuisance. Sounds stupid but I feel there's too much going on at times. I'm not sure I like the setting they used for it (Africa) since it's all mostly brown and blurry.
So far;
graphics: 9 (almost at the point of being too much) gameplay: 6 (char movement/aiming is a bit meh, AI is crap) immersion: 3 (too many "uh WTH" moments) story: can't tell yet but seems a bit meh, so far 4 fun: 4, you keep hoping based on FC 1 that things will become better annoyance: 7, lots of things that are illogical, annoying or are just odd game decisions
As it stands; don't buy. I might change my mind once I get a bit further but it doesn't look promising.

Its one of the better games of this year, (although the way games have been this year Daikatana would have got 10/10) Its definately fun and the enermy AI seems good.
You can aproach any way you want and stealth actualy seems to work unlike stuff like stalker. The story is ****e and some missons get repatitive but its quite addictive.
Friendly AI on the other hand is comparable to drone AI in eve had one "buddy" shout watch out for the fire", she runs into it and you have to heal her then she does the same thing again.........
The weapons feel nice although some rust alittle quickly and setting things on fire is impresive watching the fire spread from grass to bushes to buildings and trees with the wind is nice.
The mouse seems to lag with mouse smothing on yet turn it off and its fine and general the controls feel very responsive even the vehicles, alot better then crysis and it actualy runs quite smooth.
Definately a 7/10 IMO.

Edited by: Tzar''rim on 23/10/2008 23:41:55 Adding since I forgot and to me it's a huge one; the voice acting is FAKKING ANNOYING since it's so bad. People talk way too quickly and it lacks any immersion or feel to it. Just some people doubling as voice actors who quickly read their lines of text without intonation or acting. |

Edited by: Daelorn on 23/10/2008 23:51:37 Well to clarify what I said a little, the random annoying guard posts are mostly destructible (No trees or grass or anything seems to be), I just ran into one where I sniped a propane tank and it flew around in circles lighting everything on fire, it hit a gas pump which exploded then the whole guard camp was on fire. That was pretty cool.
Fire is quite fun too.
I do find when I get to the actual mission site it seems pretty fun, that is after having to stop and fight at 2-3 guard posts on the way. Graphics are pretty insane, here (Sorry that its a PNG!) is one I took playing and I'm getting 40-60+ FPS.
Overall I like the game, but theres just something about it that makes it seem a little less fun than it could be, it could be the mouse lag or the annoyance of guard posts. Who knows.

I dont really understand why they called this a Far Cry game.
So far I would say, Bad points: Guard posts all over the place. As far as I can tell the different factions have their own coloured cars, i think it would have been nice if you could have gone though a guard post if you were in the right colour.
AI is really stupid.
Missions (especially side missions) are the same thing over and over. Want to do a mission for a gun runner to unlock new weapons. Its going to be blow up one truck and land rovers.
Voice acting is really bad, which is a shame as the script seems better then most.
Good Points: I like the inventroy/weapon system.
I really like the health system.
Gfx are ok, though not as good a crysis.
Driving is good, I really like the feel of the off road driving.
Overall, it seems to lack atmosphere but so far its just the right side of fun.
Also, i took this screen shot, I think I must have had Eve on my mind at the time, caus this is what i thought off.

My friend got it and seems to like it. He didn't pay for it though.
He reckons you want to only travel in the vehicle with the MG on the back to shoot up patrols.
You can't hurt the animals?

Eh I'm starting to like it more but the mouse lag is SO annoying. Also I just learned that if you play in a widescreen resolution it crops the top and bottom of the screen, no wonder it feels so zoomed it, one of the first things I tried to do was to find a FOV command but there is none.
Also I just wanted to say you CAN kill animals, but animals are rare, zebras travel in packs ussually dont they? Well you'll run across a lone zebra. No other cool animals that I see, no lions, ect.
I'm sure a patch or 7 will make the game better.

Edited by: Seroquel on 25/10/2008 12:33:28 I can't stand the guard posts. I wish there was more of a lead in to the conflict. They should have you do something first to start the conflict with the factions. As it stands you just roll into Africa and everyone hates you. Not very friendly.

Zebras are extinct in my Africa. I ran over most of them. There is something satisfying about seeing a zebra roll off to the side of my buggy while going 45 mph. |

Ubisoft's choice of DRM makes me an unhappy tomato. Using SecuROM you're limited to 5 activations on 3 systems and have to either uninstall to reclam an activation or phone ubisoft for extra ones. Good game or not a publisher shouldn't get away with that kind of thing. |

but it can be annoying, the npc have uber sight and can see u wayyy in the distance.
im playing it on and off just becuase i get bored driving so far, having to keep repairing my car where checkpoints shoot the buggery out of it |

80% complete... and I must say I am incredibly upset with this game... its, Go clear across map go thru 50x checkpoints, dont get standings where they dont shoot you, but I learned to just drive on the railroad track gets you past most of the checkpoints... flames are drool... and flying the plane absolutely sucks.

I've got it am only 10% of the way through and there are good and bad bits from what i've seen so far.
There is waaaay too much traveling to be done, which is probably why the game is going to take me so long to complete.
I do agree about driving through the guardposts can be annoying as they will let rip on you, if you stay off the well trodden paths it makes traveling much safer and also gives you a chance to enjoy the scenery (which does lose some appeal after a while)
It does look amazing tho, head out at about 6am for the sunrise and that makes for some nice screenshots. I have what can be described these days as a more modest machine (E6750, 4Gb RAM, 8800GT, Vista 32), and i am running in DX10 1680x1050 with 4xAA and most of the detail settings at very high and it runs fine (unlike Crysis where at times it became more choppy than an overzealous chef).
I did nearly deafen myself when i used a sniper rifle for the first time, got a might 'boom' from it.
Fire effects are good, watching it spread over the grass and through the trees.
AI has it's dumb moments (don't we all), blew up one jeep with grenade launcher which started a huge fire, then the other jeep stopped the guys got out and burned to death. I laughed, the looted their bodies.
The weapons missions appear to be all the same; Go here Blow up this convoy ??? Profit So you may not want to do all the weapons missions at once.
For those that use AVG...when you start FC2 you'll probably get a virus alert warning (stupid securom stuff annoying AVG's heuristics check) so have to turn that off.
Also in the manual at the back is some disclaimer about there being some form of ingame advertising, but i haven't seen any (too busy shooting zebra's with rocket launchers).
Haven't tried multiplayer yet but i'll do that over the next day or so.

likewise with some weapons and you can see some billboards around 2

very well said, everyone talks at a million miles an hour it seems very cheap, i think they did that due to space saving issues/compression. When anyone talks its very boring and you honestly just stop listening.

Daelorn, there's a p.o.v. fix/patch on gamecopyworld... dunno what it does, but it's there. Also, apparently the mouse lag can be fixed by playing in windowed mode (then maximized by something like 'gamer window relocator')... that should prevent Windows mouse settings from being overridden (haven't played it myself, but I've seen that as a solution).

Sure you have to move ALOT around the map all the time but get theres cars scattered all over the place. As to the "Destroy anything you want" perspictive... Uhm... Never seen a shantytown that withstands rockets/grenades/IED's/general mayhem as these ones can. |

So far, the only thing that has annoyed me is that Malaria thing. He seems to get a dizzy spell just at the wrong time and ends up getting shot to bits while he's fumbling for his tablets. There's no warning so you can make him run and hide to take his meds and if you leave it, he just passes out. Also, the effect they show is more like Dengue Fever than Malaria but Dengue Fever is not recurring. The joint pain is so intense that it blocks out everything which is why they also call it break bone fever.
Even the good guns you get at the arms dealer don't seem to last long and soon start to jam regularly. This guy is supposed to be a pro, don't they teach pros how to look after their weapons and clean and oil them any more? One of the first things they taught us in the army was to take care of your weapon to make sure if functions well in combat.
If you use automatic weapons in short bursts, you can knock down enemy at a respectable range, even when they are only poking their head over rocks etc. Even when you can just about see the enemy so far away, you can still hit them. Try sitting on the hill at the railyard armed only with an automatic weapon. Do it with a sniper rifle and get them all before they even realise you are there. (Headshots FTW)
IMO, the environment is not as good as the first one, too much brown and very little cover from bushes etc. The amusing part is being able to start a brush fire in a torrential downpour, the rain doesn't affect it at all, even though it's coming down so hard that it limits visibility. For a game that prides itself on realism (location scouting by the designers and such), they seem to have forgot that fire and water don't mix
