Hello!
I would like to ask all of you Dominix ratters about few things:
1. I assume that you have to wait for full aggro (red blinking square) before launching drones right? That would also mean you have some gun to aggro rats. So my question is: what exactly cause rats to aggro? Do i have to hit and do dmg (large railgun or something) or just shooting at them is enough (civilian railgun=no ammo)?
Also I was thinking about something that my friend is doing for his mining toon. Making bookmarks at 200km+ away from middle point of each belt. Then just warping to bookmarks -> warping to rats. That would mean Id be very close to rats = faster full aggro. But again Im not sure if its possible to warp to NPC rats (never tried ;p) and if time needed for 2 warps in BS is worth it
2. Heavy or sentry drones? Im not sure but: -heavy: better dps but they have to fly from one bs to another -sentry: lower dps then heavys but they have large range

1) You don't have to, but it helps, as it's less likely your drones get shot at.
2) Can't warp to NPC's.
3) Depends how you fight. My ratting Dominixes have had salvager/tractor/web/mwd so I go up orbitting at 500m and use heavies. Then I can grab aggro by a NOS (which also helps the cap obviously). Sentry works nice if you're just after bounties. Getting aggro first is pretty necessary at that point tho as the Domi is fairly slow and your sentries just sit there.
In either case I'd recommend fitting a gun or several, remember the ship bonus too, even with low skills it's not bad to have one or a few guns. You don't need that many highs in PvE anyway. What would it be? Drone link? Cloak? Salvager? Tractor? Nos? Even if you fit all those you still have one slot free.

Info is not quite right.
Sentries have more damage (rigs and training) but to be effective in a Domi you have to stay near them. Also they are like ammo you have to choose the range based on the sentry.
Heavies slow as they are can follow the target and return to you.
Am I confused?

Edited by: Stark Thunder on 30/10/2008 15:37:08 Sentrys are what I use for chaining. They have trouble hitting stuff smaller than a cruiser. (I use t2 meds on the cruiser only spawns.) I don't worry about the aggro on them as I usually just orbit one of the drones at close range and I carry a large remote rep.(this works best Vs. guristas as torps don't do much damage to the drones for some reason)

Edited by: Bynara on 31/10/2008 00:21:10 I rat sanshas and angels exclusivly in a domi and always in 0.0 so all of this is based first on (A) 0.0 ratting and (B) projectile, beam, and missle rats
(1) ALWAYS chain..there is never an excuse for not chaining..it costs you isk and valuable game time not to and any who might follow you both time and isk as well.
(2) sentries have a use...but ratting is not that use. The time and effort to put out and pick back up alone makes them a poor choise for any who chain and salvage...and if your not chaining, picking up your loot, and salvaging once again your pouring your isk down the drain. drones will stay on target and not kill the little ones as long as YOU keep control of what they target.
(3) You do not have to fire on a rat to make them aggro you..locking them is more than enough to speed up the aggro process, and it is important for ALL rats to have you aggro'ed before assigning drones to target as any rats that have not aggroed you will attack your drones..again costing you isk. this of course leaves your high spots free for 3 tractors and 3 salvagers and a drone unit...which doesnt cost you isk but instead makes it.
hope this helps

(4) Ur rat mobile should be cap stable. in other words be able to run ur race hardners, armor rep, and salvage gear constantly without breaking ur cap.
hope this helps

You can somewhat warp to npcs -- remember you're in a roid belt. Add rocks to overview. Warp to a rock 150km away, then warp back to something close to the rat. WHAMMO.
I rat Sansha in a t1 rat dropping fitted dominix, salvaging and looting choice stuff as I go. My fittings (t1 except the DCU II, which is my good luck charm.)
3x named tachyons, MF crystals. 2x salvager 1x tractor
5x cap recharger
3x hardener, lar, dcu II heatsink rcu
5x ogre II 5x hobgoblin 5x acolyte 5x curator
I can ofc toss out the highs and mount 6x dual pulses or 6x 250mm duals. That lets me toss the RCU in favor of another damage mod.
It's cap stable enough to clear a belt spawn, and cap regens in time for the next belt. I warp in, lock rats, deploy sentries. Alpha strike a rat and see if sentries got targeted. 99% of the time they won't be, and will chew up half a rat BS before I'm targeted. Shoop up sentries, send out ogres, salvage whatever exploded meanwhile.

I prefer the ishtar - faster going from belt to belt but for the domi:
Highs: Cloak and whatever Mids:MWD and cap rechargers Lows: 1xLAR 4xRat specific hardeners 1xEANM 1xCPR
Just leave the rep permarunning.
