This thread will no doubt be removed, so i'll make sure it's on my SEO enabled forums as well.
After DT on the day of lag and server crashes, I lost an abaddon as my modules wouldnt turn on. I petitioned the loss, mainly as no warning messages about the lag were anywhere when I logged on. My first reimbursement loss in nearly 2 years of play. I even let the can expire with modules inside thinking CCP would sort this out.
I get the ship back after a long delay (day or two) with some modules on it. The modules that were dropped, I was told after replying to the petition, were lost for good as I should have taken them from the can. I'm unable to claim these back and have had to buy them again.
So basically, CCP caused the problem and are at full fault, yet I STILL LOSE OUT. I'm not suprised people are becoming sick to death of EVE these days. CCP need to sort out their policies as they may find that other new space MMPORPG's become quite popular. ------ Killboard Hosting - www.eveonlinekb.com North West UK EVE Group - www.eve-nw.com |

I fail to see any problems with that. It was just your own assumptions that caused you to make that mistake. I can understand whining about not getting the ship or the destroyed modules back, but the mods in the can ? Come on. Nobody to blame but yourself.

Dropped items are NEVER replaced to anybody, as technically it'd be duplicated if someone else had picked them out.
Matter of policy, deal with it.

if CCP were to give you back lost modules it would essentially be duping, which no game company would want to do in its own game, additonally you could run a scan by having an alt of corp meber retireve the modules, and then end up with 2 of them. if for example your gist x-l booster was dropped, you could make a lot of money like this.
Its a fair and reasonable policy, the one being unreasonable is you. |

Not when this was nothing to do with me at all. CCP admitted their fault, I should get the ship back with it's orginal fittings.

It was a CCP error at the end of the day, not mine.
It is very simple:
- if CCP were refounding the dropped can content and not only the destroyed items they would be duplicating items potentially still in game and in the hand of some players (not necessarly you);
- it they were to remove the originally survived items from the game the one looting them (for example a ninja salvager entering a mission or the pirate that destroyed your ship) would be losing them when he has legitimately get them.
If they are inexpensive items, no harm, but they can easily be very valuable items. Then there is the problem that some player could find a bug to exploit to "lose" ship with valuable modules to duplicate them if they are returned from petitions.
So droppend items should not be recovered through a petition. Sorry for the loss, but it is working as intended and how it should work.

You shouldn't have. Somebody could have come along and swiped the stuff inside. If somebody else got that stuff, and you would get the stuff back too, that's essentially duplicating items. And that's a BAD thing, in case you still have doubts about it.
Only DESTROYED things get reimbursed. Things that can be recovered are NEVER reimbursed - finders keepers rule.
Reimbursement policy "Items looted from a wreck following the destruction of a ship cannot be replaced. Should your ship be destroyed, we advise you to seek out and collect your belongings as quickly as possible."
It's a fair and logical policy, and it is public knowledge. Not CCP's fault, YOUR fault for not bothering to find out what the policy is in due time.

It'll be fairly easy to find your ship and it's fittings, as there's a killmail being generated which corresponds to item numbers and they can compare those losses to their server logs. They know what time the server crashes so they'll be able to reimburse if your ship is lost at that time.
However, I assume the reason they don't reimburse items in a jet/lootcan is because there's so many jetcans floating about that it would take them ages to find that particular can you are talking about in the listings, and that's simply not a feasible thing to do.
Just my two cents worth.

Ok, let's reset. Let's ASSUME for a second you MIGHT be right, and CCP should PROBABLY reverse their position on that particular policy. Think about EXACTLY what the implications of the reversal of that policy would be. Re-read what was already said before in this thread.
Make a coherent counter-argument in which you PROVE beyond a shadow of a doubt nothing bad can possibly come out of reversing the policy, and start with the already raised issues : the risk of item duplication on one hand, and the inadequacy of removing items somebody else obtained from your wreck on the other hand.

I understand what your saying, but then why should I for example, not being at fault, have to buy another ship to complete the mission to try and salvage the wreck?
If people are not at fault for things going wrong, they should not have to lose out in any way what so ever. I've expressed my opinion, and I think their policy is poor. This policy should also be on the sign up page and the EVE client, as the EULA doesn't mention this stuff either.

Indeed the EULA does not mention reimbursement at all, instead it puts the responsibility for pretty much anything (almost including Acts of God) in your hands. If CCP applied the EULA instead of their reimbursement policy, you'd get nothing!

LOL, some people. Quite apart from the silly diva performance this guy is putting on, I just can't imagine letting your wreck evaporate without trying to get it's contents. That's stuff is like a magnet to me, I couldn't sleep without retrieving it.
It's quite possible that CCP does not have logs of what happened to the can' was it picked up by another player or did it just evaporate. You might think that this would be logged, but every little thing that gets recorded is CPU time that the server should be using for actual gameplay. So I'm not surprised they often seem to have no logs of things.

Yes, they are dealing with the issue. They have a POLICY for that. The policy is, whoever picked the stuff up keeps it. It's the only policy that's FAIR to all parties. And it's the policy you're describing as "poor".
Hmm... anyway... do you actually claim the policy itself is bad, or do you simply state you, personally, should be granted an EXCEPTION to that policy ? Do you even understand the meaning of the word "POLICY" ? Or why entities prefer to have policies instead of operating on a case-by-case basis ?
CCP admited it was a mistake. It was a known network issue, and they reimbursed you for all things you could have not gotten back all by yourself. The fact you CHOSE not to get the rest of the stuff yourself is no longer their problem. Just like it's never THEIR problem if your computer resets during a PvP battle, or your ISP drops, or anything not directly caused by CCP's gear.
Now, would you have had your stuff stolen from the wreck, I could almost understand the drama, but again, the policy would apply, and the other guy would RIGHTFULLY keep the goods. You could complain that YOU should be getting DUPLICATES of those items, but that only opens up the door to even more exploitation potential, so that would be a bad idea too. But no... you INTENTIONALLY left the can expire. That can only be described as a glorious combination of ignorance (of the policy) and stupidity (WHY NOT get the can anyway) ?
So, you either fail to understand why this is a good/fair/reasonable policy OR you believe you should be exempt from the ramifications of that policy. Which one is it ? And why exactly ?

Lag is not a reason to reimburse anyway (check the policy!). You got reimbursed because of network issues.

While it has been CCPs fault that you lost the ship in the first place due to the sever issues, I honestly doubt that it's their fault that you did not bookmark and loot the wreck that was left over. You said yourself that you have been waiting to have this sorted out by CCP, but they also could sort that out while the stuff would be in your hangar already, couldn't they? The server problems a few days back haven't been that bad that you wouldn't have found the the time and opportunity to actually have that stuff salvaged before it vanished. In fact, if you'd had looted and salvaged the wreck, you'd probably had some free salvage parts on top of this... |

Let me see if I can explain myself...
Maybe there aren't other space MMORPGS, but saying EVE is popular is a over statement at least. It isn't popular in my country and, imo, in allot of other places outside the EVE universe or the gaming community. For example, WoW and Second Live are popular for me since they are in the news for various reasons (related to the game or not). This way they went outside the gaming community and became popular since allot of people that doesn't play know about them.
Still, would like to see other space MMORPGS if they exists.

Certainly, the worst possible way to deal with it is what you did : complain about the POLICY itself not your particular circumstances, fling thinly veiled insults at the mods and CCP in general and so on and so forth. And you wonder why you are treated with hostility

Use a Rookie Ship they come for free and tend to have enough cargo space to collect whatever dropped (unless you're talking capital stuff). If that one would have gotten killed due to the server issues and more modules died due to this along with the rookie frig, you would've gotten it back the same way most likely, thus saving the dropped modules one way or another. It's not that there wouldn't have been any way to at least attempt getting the stuff back that dropped.

You're not going to convince many (if anybody) that this particular policy is a bad one, you know that, don't you ? What exactly do you hope to get out of this ? I mean, something you couldn't have possibly gotten by escalating the petition a few times, that is ?

When you play the game, you accept the EULA, i.e. all the risks that come with playing the game. CCP owes/guarantees you nothing. Bottom line here is that you can go play another game if you don't like it, but that's the policy. That's been the policy for as long as I can remember. I have never heard of anybody ever quitting over it. Most people see the logic in the policy so it's generally not an issue. ------------- Stop whining.

If you are coherent and persistent enough, you might actually get the can loot back. Most likely you won't, and next time you'll know better. But you should also know better than to complain about the policy in general, instead of just your particular case.
I'm not just talking about my particular case. Anyone who lost anything due to CCP problems should be reimbursed fully.
Thats why I am happy just to have something back! I don't think a full return should be given if there a can! I managed to get my can before I lost my noob ship! but I just want the ship! I don't ask much from CCP but be nice to help a player who works hard for it!

I have an easier suggestion : "no reimbursements, ever, for any reason whatsoever".
The rage quit threads alone would be worth this. ------------- Stop whining.

LancashireUK,
what should happen in the following situation: you jump into a system and see a wreck on scanner. You get closer and it's still full of goodies. You empty the wreck, dock up and sell the stuff, get some good money for it and just have enough to buy you that ship you've been waiting for plus insurance.
Two days later.... you're wallet is negative because it turned out, the mods you took were due to a 'faulty' crash and CCP took back all the money that you gathered thanks to those mods.
Now, you never were present when the original ship blew up, you didn't experience these problems. Should you be punished for this?
For that reason, CCP does not reimburse the stuff that survives. It's simple. You can hate that policy but that's the one which is being used.
It works for 99.9 percent of the people. It doesn't for you apparently but you can be sure, they won't change it.
It is very likely that someone else looted your wreck which means they can't reimburse those modules. If you would have picked up the loot in the wreck and waited for the petition, you would have had 0 loss.
If you need a reimbursement, YOU have to do some actions. One of them is to create a petition, the other one is to pick up the stuff that survived. You're not complaining here that you had to create a petition so why complain about the second part?

I did the petition because that's how i'd get my itmes back. Collecting the can should not be my responsibility as it was a CCP error, and certainly not when CCP were having serious server issues which caused me to lose the ship in the first place. To be honest, being able to loot the wreck would have been a challenge due to these issues.
As for the other person, well CCP can do what they please can't they, it seems. Perhaps they shouldn't have stolen it in the first place....
Anyhow, some good comments, i'm still sticking to my original thought. ------ Killboard Hosting - www.eveonlinekb.com North West UK EVE Group - www.eve-nw.com |

not all of ccp's decisions are logical. you should know better. you should have looted your wreck, they wouldn't have denied reimbursment if you took the stuff (else leave it there and wait for someone else to grab it). the only failed logic i see here is in your decision... ______________

I understand that, perhaps more people should grow some "things between their legs" and speak out, and not be afraid to express their opinion on the EVE forums. ------ Killboard Hosting - www.eveonlinekb.com North West UK EVE Group - www.eve-nw.com |

It's quite simple, really : CCP reimburses things that you lost due to a fault on their end, provided you had no possibility of avoiding that loss (no matter how slim), and provided they have absolutely no doubts that the problem WAS actually on their end. If they have any reasons to doubt the problem was on their end, or if you could have done something to prevent the loss, it's no longer their problem.
In your particular case, it seems they agree the loss of the ship was their fault, and they reimbursed that (plus the destroyed mods). Still, the loss of modules left undestroyed in the wreck could have been prevented by you (nobody says it would have been easy though), so you're not getting reimbursed for that.

i couldn't have done anything. maybe not uncloak but that's not the problem. i don't care that my ship blew up, i care that after it did, nothing was clickable and even max zoomed out, right click on any part of the screen would bring up the pod menu. so meh..."ze logs..they show nothing!"... ______________

Please note that the Reimbursement policy specifically states "NOTE: Items looted from a wreck following the destruction of a ship cannot be replaced. Should your ship be destroyed, we advise you to seek out and collect your belongings as quickly as possible."
