I'm not sure why but I read through this entire thread.
OP, either play the game or just leave already. The game isn't about you, isn't going to change for you, and the rest of us here like it the way it is.
Thank you.
Also, to the few posters here who think SP = Power, you seem to have some really weird misconceptions about how skills actually work. A vet in a frigate with lots of skills in frigates, cruisers, battlecruisers, battleships, etc. is no better than 3 month old player specialized in frigates, considering none of the vets non-frigate skills mean jack in that situation.
If you want to compete with older players, do what they did when they were new players and specialize in something you like. When you get good at that, go specialzie in something else, and then another, and before you know it you're the vet looking at some other noob complaining he'll never catch up. -Zyck |

Immanent unreasonable lack of progress, be it artificially or by bad design, or for whatever other reason, is one of the things that make me stop playing a game. It takes out all the fun and makes it a waste of time. If there is a good argumentation making it evident why having unreasonable lack of progress (and taking out the fun) designed into a game, I'd like to hear that.
hey listen I have a 13 hour work day plus school work and I need time for friends and my girlfriend.I also need time to just do nothing, watch a movie, play new video games coming out. I can play eve once a week and enjoy progress and PvP. 4-5 hours of PvP on the weekend is the best thing ever. If eve played differently then I would not be able to play it.
and Don't worry other space mmorpgs will be coming out soon :)
plus CCP is making another mmorpg which is in the works.
oh and I've been playing end game since the 1st week of playing eve. me, my rifter, and a rack of autocannons.

It is interesting to see that none of you can understand that people are not willing to pay for something they don't get.
It's also interesting that a thread pointing out a broken feature is being moved to what seems to be the "off topic" section. CCP has to make money. They can make as many new games as they want, I don't want to be their customer anymore. I hope they don't find others to wind up.

Why is it a broken feature when it's the best way of training skills that exist in any MMO games out here?.

Lol, this guy/girl has already made his/her decision, no need to talk about it anymore.
Btw, you are a perfect example of a person that shouldn't play EVE. No offence.

What's also interesting is you don't seem to understand why other people are willing to pay for something they do get. Its not a "broken feature" its how it was designed. You don't like it? THen bye. If you want to whine about it on the forums, then expect this sort of reaction. Thanks for the forum fuel. Haven't been much I wanted to respond to lately.

So by this reasoning if I go out and buy a Porshe and dont "get" how the brakes work I should get everyone understanding how the Porshe brakes are a broken feature even though I didnt know how to use the brakes, and I should get a refund after ive redesigned the front end on a tree. Even though everyone else who drives that same model of Porshe and knows how the brakes work would say there is nothing wrong with the brakes.
For a feature to be broken, obviously it wouldnt work, just because you dont want to use the brakes doesnt mean the brakes are broken. |

Edited by: Llywelyin on 04/11/2008 00:17:51 Edited by: Llywelyin on 04/11/2008 00:09:01 That's a funny example. Yes, the brakes do work, but they take between half an hour and a couple months to stop your Porsche. I consider brakes like that broken, you consider them as working as designed. Just how many cars would Porsche sell if they designed their brakes like that, unable to stop the car within a reasonable amount of time? Other Porsche owners might tell you that you are not supposed to drive your Porsche faster than the brakes can stop it ... which would be very, very slow. But wait, you can upgrade the brakes over time to make them work slightly faster, though they will never actually work. It doesn't matter how long it takes anyway because you have more time than you would ever want while crawling slower than a snail towards your destination. Just keep paying the fees for the regular maintenance so that the maintenance will be for free.

Obviously then if you compare Skill training to brakes, although obviously you dont understand the concept, which has been put to you in different ways. Skill Training is suppossed to slow you down so that you understand the myriad concepts behind eve and learn how to use the exsisting systems in place to play the game and enjoy it. You may think it is broken because it isnt what you want, but if it works and everyone who plays eve uses it quite effectively then that suggests that the problem isnt so much with eve but yourself. You have 3 choices from there you decide to use the exsisting system, or you make the choice not to and either still play or leave and try something else.

none of us? excuse me over half the people here understand your point and have thus said this is not the game for you.
what makes you think we don't understand? we do, we 100% understand. however you seem to fail to seeing why WE like this system.
once your working 70 hours a week and want to play mmorpg, come back to eve and you'll find it's the best mmorpg ever.
we et it you don't like the system, it's NOT FOR EVERYONE.
finally, one again, I've been playing eve end game since day one. And I only started with the old 50,000 skill points, not your fancy pansy 800,000 skill points. spoiled.

What? He shouldn't have to buy the barge! That would mean that CCP is just putting artificial constraints on what he can and can not do and just be reinforcing a broken system!
C'mon guys, you should know all this.
Seriously, the game isn't for you OP. Get over it already. The game isn't broken, the feature works as is intended. -Zyck |

LOL, I award this quote the thread. Here's a cookeh!
For some reason, I read through the entire thread. OP, clearly this game isn't for you. You are aware that a top-end mining barge/exhumer will cost you in the region of 90-100mil (Hulk), and that the skills for the Hulk about another 30mil in total, included the Exhumer skill in the region of 25mil?. Plus, you will still have to pay for the fittings to the Hulk, Modulated Strip Miner IIs X 4, and also for insurance, which is highly recommended. Oh yes, and the crystals for the various ores, but they aren't too expensive (those also require skills). And don't forget drones, they have saved me from many an evil rat!. I love 'em!
I mined in a Vexor for a couple of months, and have been using a Retriever for a few months now, will be able to fly a Hulk in another month or so, but am still putting together the ISKies for it.
I can also tackle in an EW frigate if necessary. I am quite satisfied with the progress I have made in my 5 1/2 months in EVE, and that's including a month of no EVE.
Eh, hope I wasn't feeding the troll....

Its sounds as though you have had too much caffeine, because if you cant wait a couple hours for a skill to train then you really should be playing fpses rather then eve.
Obviously your probably a wowit so ill put this in terms youll understand, a t2 mining barge is like epic lvl 70 armor for miners, and a normal mining barge is like badass lvl 50 armor for miners.

They all take long to train.

3. Barges are for high-end industrial players, not new players. The fact that it takes a month to train should tell you this.
It's only ridiculous. Part of playing the game is trying out different ships, one of the fun things to do. But most of what you could do, you can't ...
Quote:
Most importantly, a battleship outmines all but the Covetor and Exhumers. And you can get a battleship in a fraction of the time you can get an Exhumer.
What are mining barges for, then? And battleships cost like 54 million, with only 600 cargo space, while mining barges are more like only 2.6 million, with almost twice the cargo space.
Quote:
4. You make far more salvaging than you will mining in high security. This means: get tractor beams, salvagers, and a destroyer, then find a lvl3/4 mission running corp and ask if you can salvage their missions.
I have a destroyer, and it's so weak that I prefer having weapons on it instead of salvager/tractor beams. I haven't tried a tractor beam --- don't have the skill ... --- but I salvaged for a day while doing missions. It became boring because it takes long to approach all the wrecks and to salvage them, and I'm getting the same missions over and over again. Time to do something else --- if I could ...
Quote:
5. Again, train short skills first.
There are no short skills ...
Quote:
Save the "end game" content for end game.
If a simple mining barge is already "end game" content, what does that say about the game? That it lacks content and that the only thing that keeps people playing for some time is waiting on getting skills?
Leave, just go the doors that way... ========= "I am not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why can`t we just take the safety labels off everything and let the problem fix its self |
