Hi There,
usually i would set a rating of a scammer to -1.0 and somewhere on my journey i might see them for a quick pew pew.
Thing works occasionally and only for me and my fleet of alts.
I'm thinking if there is a global way to tag a person as a scammer. jita would become a more peaceful market place or other trade hubs for their residents.
allow anyone to tag the scammer. and the scammer ratings are displayed for everyone to see.
Regards, HL

How will your plan deal with people thinking the following:
"I don't like you, I'll tag you as a scammer."
"I'm a scammer. The more people I flag as scammers, the less people will pay attention to the scammer flag"
"I scammed you. Now to **** you off further, I'll flag you as a scammer" ---------------------------------------------- I support skill queues. |

1 flag per player.
so if i have a poor buyer being flagged on 10 accounts. this is a warning only for the other person(s) trading with him. it's not a way to cancel any trading with the involved parties. just a way of informing players to say. this guy has been flagged. which date and perhaps a category / reason given.
If people (which is very high) does not do research on seller's information about their ethical trade. then they'll loose.
"I don't like you, I'll tag you as a scammer." Thresholds can be applicable to avoid - but not eliminate all exposure's to elimination.
Per eve day you can for instance have only 1 tag per person / corp / alliance. when you multiply this with 10 different unique sources per eve day the flag gets raised for instance by 1 point.
In other words, might work better when a group of people decide - this person is a scammer. based on the diversity of players in trade hubs. and not on personal grievances.
"I'm a scammer. The more people I flag as scammers, the less people will pay attention to the scammer flag"
Abuse is a reality, some ground rules based on ratings of a scammer. if they for instance have X amount of scammer points towards them , they can't flag someone else. this does not affect their alts. So this could lead to more information about the scammer quantity / details. and see from who'm the scamming flag was set towards the targeted scammer.
for instance:
Scammer A (friendly Group A), Target B, Scammer C (Group), Scammer A (group) is ethical towards flagging a valid scammer. the information registers all the involved parties making the flag call to Target B.
Scammer C (Group) decides to pollute the flagging on Target B and the group information is visible to anyone.
The information on Target B. would show that Scammer A parties made the calls from X amount of people for flags. And Scammer B's party made y amounts.
When showing Scammer B's information, alot more calls to alot of players.
So theory's on players knowledge needs to be adhered. and they need to take their own guidance to assess if scammer b is valid for target b. Hence , lessens the possibility of abuse. manipulating - or blockign a bad scammer rating's on the scam list is a option. not to affect the ratings for scammer b's pollution to the rest of false flags. like * block *

..I got lost. But even with limitations, you'd end up with everyone being flagged as a scammer. There's enough people in eve and everyone has ****ed off enough other people.
How about this: A scam is incredibly obvious to spot, so people who fall for it are just stupid. --------- Your bad loan management perfectly strikes the stock market, wrecking for -777.68 points. Eve job list |

Edited by: Sig Sour on 01/11/2008 07:16:17 I would like to be able to subscribe to blocked lists. Then if someone such as yourself could start to block scamers and someone such as myself could subscribe to your block list. Then you hang over their head that they will be black listed for trying to scam, and maybe market ransom them =)

It still gets people treating a non-scammer as a scammer. All because they annoyed someone.
Quote: If people (which is very high) does not do research on seller's information about their ethical trade. then they'll loose.
Or they find that the scammer flag isn't a reliable piece of information.
Quote: "I'm a scammer. The more people I flag as scammers, the less people will pay attention to the scammer flag"
Abuse is a reality, some ground rules based on ratings of a scammer. if they for instance have X amount of scammer points towards them , they can't flag someone else.
So flag them before they flag me ?
Quote: this does not affect their alts. So this could lead to more information about the scammer quantity / details. and see from who'm the scamming flag was set towards the targeted scammer.
for instance:
So lots more database calls if someone really does the research. But if scammers make hordes of alts then people will either ignore the flag, or they will stop trading with innocent players because they are flagged and it's not worth poking deeper.
Quote: Hence , lessens the possibility of abuse.
Only if people spend time to look deeper.
Besides, scamming is one of the things that attracted me to Eve in the first place*. So before you try to make things harder for the scammers, first convince us that the scammers are a problem. Especially when your 'solution' will be getting non-scammers flagged as scammers.
*As in the first I heard about Eve was the EiB scam, and it helped convince me to try Eve. ---------------------------------------------- I support skill queues. |

Guys...
Eve is an unforgiving game. You can loose 50 mil by having one wrong digit in a market order because you're drunk. You can warp to the wrong stargate and loose a battleship. Space is dangerous.
Lolz @ people that fall for scams, especially the "I send you x isk I send you x isk back fun story" :). C'mon how stupid can you be? Free ammo in a can outside station? Let's grab it.
In eve, do stupid things and **** will happen.

why do we need to flag people as scammers? is it not obvious when you view his contract?
Or are you the kind of person that reads the link "Navy Raven" and then clicks Accept as fast as he can? If so, what faction ships are you most interested in and where do you hang out?

i agree, i mean the scams are so blatantly obvious you only need a tiny brain cell to spot them.
Just a shame so many playing eve seem to lack one... maybe eve needs a IQ test before being allowed to join?

TL...DR... I scam, your idea sucks. Has anyone gotten more than 10 mil for an Ibis? Because I have gotten 10 mil for an Ibis. My brother watched the transaction and shook his head becasue I told him I would get 10 mil for my Ibis and he said I would never do it. He bought the beer that night.

That's just it, all the scams I've heard about can be easily avoided with some mild paranoia. Even the EiB scam required you to trust the guy to hold your ISK.

They spam more than legit sellers. I just block them, it would just be nice to be able to subscribe to a block list in order to avoid them. In having a legit block list people could subscribe to, scammers would have to think twice before trying to scam.
Its a market piracy, PVP pirates have to suffer the consequences, why do market pirates not have to?
