So I bought an abandon thinking it would be nice to mission with but from what I have read on the setup guide it is not...
I don't have the skill to fly it yet so I have not taken it out to see for my self but is it the right ship to mission with?
I am at BS lvl 2

abbadon is a great ship for missions. second only to paladin/nightmare. however, you need good skills for it, or you will cap out to fast.
if your other skills are as low as your bs skill, i would probably start with a dual heavy beam armageddon. (i did lvl 4 missions with 2m sp with that setup some years ago)

In order of usefulness in missions for Amarrian battleships I would say the following:
1.) Navy Apoc. - Yes it's expensive and uninsurable but it tanks as well as, if not better than, an abaddon due it it's 8 low slots and it's HUGE base armor value (which is of course increased as a percentage for your hull upgrades skill so more base is great) and it has the VERY nice 50% optimal Bonus at BS V which makes Pulses hit like a dream. 2.) Abaddon - The best non Faction Amarr ship for mission probably. Does a reasonable amount of damage and tanks very well indeed. Less cap than the Apoc though which unless you have good cap skills you will have to watch out for. 3.) Apoc - HUGE cap due to it's absorbed bonus. Here is a basic Tier 2 battleship with three bonuses in effect as the base stats swallowed the 25% cap bonus at BS V into it's base stats when the Optimal Bonus was added. Talking of the optimal bonus it makes pulses hit great. It's tank is okay but it's the reason it's not number 2 as Missions are mostly about the tanking imo. 4.) Geddon. - Meh. It'll do if you;re short on cash and can put out a fearsom amount of firepower but not enough Tanking ability for the more difficult missions.

Edited by: Lili Lu on 02/11/2008 20:39:15 To do well in level 4s with an Abaddon you need maxed cap skills, controlled bursts 5, and BS4. Also, you need any other skill that affects cap usage of your other mods at 4.
Once there, yes it is a very good ship against the right mission rats.
Until you get there an Apoc or Geddon will both do better for you.

The Abaddon is awesome handsdown in all aspects except for one:
Capacitor.
I think it could qualify as "the best non-faction/t2 ship for missions". ------------

Nothing that can't be solved by more Minmatar nerfs.

Navy Apoc for me it is the best mission runner for amarr.. could be very very effective with medium skills. The problem too expensive.
PS. Dont know about paladin, cant flight yet

For sansha missions mainly i think that the Megapulse Apocalypse can be really nice with its optimal range bonus.

Abaddon is fantastic, but the bottom line for flying it is cap skills at 4/5, tanking maxed with comp at 4, and mega beams with 4/5 in supports.
When you hit large pulse spec, and subsequently bring it to 4 or 5, start thinking about using an Apoc or a Napoc with Mega Pulse II's. If you feel like doing Battleship V and Advanced Weapon Upgrades V, there's the Paladin, and if you want to utilize maxed shield skills and are 100% for what might as well be the most beautiful ship in EvE, there's the Nightmare.

Both Abby and Apoc are good misson runners, similar dps and tank, atleast in my case. Actually my Abby has better cap and tank than my Apoc, but Apoc has maybe slightly better damage output because of better tracking on close targets.
I personally prefer Apoc, atleast before they nerf my rigs, purely because of cheaper ammo cost. In Abby I generally use Scorch but with Apoc I get away with Faction ammo, which is quite a bit cheaper.
Just my two cents.

Try fitting an Abaddon with Dual Heavy Beams to free up grid and cap. 3 Cap Recharger II's and a Tracking computer will allow you to track cruisers that get close and will allow you to toss Multi L out to 40km and use X-Ray at 60Km for the far away stuff.
For the lows you can slip 1 Heat Sink on there, a few hardners, duel reps, and the rest are Cap Power Relays
Fit Cap Controls in the lows and you get a respectable ship with decent skills that will become a great mission runner as your skills progress. |

I started off my missioning in an Abaddon with this fit:
HI: 8xDHBL (Ultraviolet) MID: 4xCapRech LO: 1xLAR, 4xHardener, 2xHeatSink RIG: 3xCCC
Tops out at 387 DPS @ 46+15km with Ultraviolet, and tanks 702 EM/TH. Was pretty effective. Eventually I settled on a pulse fit though:
HI: 8xMPL MID: 1xAB, 3xCR LO: 2xLAR, 3xHardener, 2xCPR RIG: 3xCCC
Outdamages beams out to about 30km, does comparable damage from 30-40, and can still hit ships at 48+10 (201dps). Tanks 936 EM/TH.
Optionally you an fit 1 LAR, 4xHardener, 1xCPR, 1xHS (702 EM/TH) and have 232 @ 48+10. (I usually used 2 LAR.) Thaddeus |
