Never watched it. Was it good?

However while better quality might be a good thing are you planning on tuning into HD TV in two weeks to watch Obama's win during the US election coverage or Hamiltons Grand Prix Championship victory?
Hope I've not given any spoilers away there if you are - but you see my point?
There's a considerable difference between the two concepts here, the main one being that I don't really care to attend something like an election acceptance speech. Fanfest is more than just the information they present there, and the overall experience of attending encompasses more than just sitting in a hall watching a dev talk on stage. Muuuuuuch more. :)
The information will come to us in a more timely manner by the various bloggers that are attending (I'd be one of them like last year if i could).
Essentially I agree with you Blinky but youÆre missing a key point!
There is an upcoming expansion planned for the 11th of November which has not been catalogued entirely in blog form so far. It has been alluded that there is much more stuffÆs to be added to what we already know so far. This information will be released only at Fanfest.
Now given that the fanfest begins on the 6th and ends on the 8th this gives the general eve player 3 days after fanfest has concluded. Aye 72 hours to test, adapt or change to any modifications contained within the expansion patch scheduled for the 11th.
ThatÆs even with bloggers blogging directly from the fanfest on the 8th. It has to be considered as the last day of fanfest because all information and changes wonÆt be known till the final key note speech on the last day!
A way in which the hoi polloi was informed was indeed through the EvE-TV medium, which will be two weeks behind current TQ status and mechanics. Some other form of communication must be forthcoming.

Bolded bit: exactly. They may release the information first at Fanfest, but look back at the last two -- information did make its way out to the masses through official channels, very quickly after Fanfest was finished.

I don't think there is anything else. What's been alluded to is what we might expect in future expansions - nothing for QR. That much is clear from CCPs statement that store fronts are not being included as they're not ready.
Fanfest, as with previous years, will hint and tease with 'new concepts' such as WiS, Tech 3, planetary interaction and industrial improvements but we certainly won't be seeing any of those this side of 08, and quite probably not until 09 / 10. This is why there's no feeling from CCP they need to 'rush out' FF material as we wont be seeing any of it for a loooong while.
So, at the tail end of 2008 we have an expansion that really consists of welcome but essentially 'invisible' code improvements and an equally invisible Fanfest.
These factors combined run contrary to what CCP have pushed out in the past - and that in itself is a clear and unambiguous signal that CCPs policy has suffered a definitive shift in how it does business with its current player base.

To me it's not mainly about the info and stuff, although that is very nice to get live, but just as much the signal that CCP no longer think it is worth the time and effort to let those not able to go to Iceland take at least a little part in the party. Both previous years I had Fanfest stream on from it started till it ended, and even though it often was just background noise, it made fanfest a little event at home, and made the FF weekend something to look forward to.
Too bad CCP now thinks this wasn't worth their while to let us in on anymore. ---

Quoting Oveur directly from his latest blog;
You should see the feature pages when we send out another press release this week to detail what is coming this month.
IÆm not sure how this statement was interpreted but I interpret it as there is MOAR but we canÆt tell you yet. If there is not MOAR then it seems less than accurate to call a server side upgrade, 1 new ship, max velocity reduction, missile and some module changes an expansion. The only new feature discussed is weapons groups. Surely he is not advocating that pages of data are needed for this one new feature? I may well be completely wrong I have been in the past and IÆm sure I will be again in the future.

Much of this is really about having the exposeÆ if you get me. The sensationalism involved in the ooOO ooOO shiny announcement. Not that I have a problem with this per seÆ for me the problem is the short sightedness with regards to æunknownsÆ especially in todayÆs eve climate. As I pointed out in my previous post I donÆt think communication should be left to people such as Winterblink among others who provide an excellent service bringing information and discussion to the community.
If say there was some change to POS or SOV mechanics the impact of leaving only 72 hours for both player testing and adaptation could lead to catastrophic ramifications in game, effectively changing the face of the eve universe, should one group react quicker than another.
IÆm not suggesting that a change such as this is imminent. I would also be extremely surprised if such a change was announced in such a way. IÆm just using an extreme example to highlight the problem with æunknownsÆ especially in a game universe that takes a finite amount of time to establish certain criteria.

Well either way you cut it ER0X its not good is it?
Either there's nothing new (and I still think this may well be the case) OR
There's something 'awzome' coming and, as you point out, there's at least the potential of players being caught flat footed as a result.
tbh, Ive had a good rant and now I frankly couldnt care less either way now. If its some amazing changes then 'whuhoo': clearly CCP don't feel the need to let a massive % of their player base know and that speaks volumes - or there's nothing much more to say and Hypefest will be just that - lots of hype and promises but no substance.

It's just CCP's way of telling some people they're more valued than others. Nothing new in the corporate world.
Unfortunately CCP has changed from a company of gamers making a game out of love for the game itself, to a company of corporate zombies doing just what is neccessary to keep subs out of love for their wallet. ____________________
