So I keep hearing about the MWD/Cloak trick.
I've been messing around with it... can't get it to work.
Aside from the fact that the Blockade runner buff is coming... which means its a moot point soon. I've been unable to confirm this so called trick.
So can someone explain to me just how this trick is executed? Because every time I kick it in... my throttle isn't up to speed...and the cloak nerfs any other modules at the time.

It's pretty simple. Align to the next gate, immediately hit the cloak and the MWD. When you start slowing down, the MWD's cycle has completed. Decloak and instawarp. If you're not achieving the required speed, then you're using an undersized MWD.

Generally this trick works best with something that can get into warp fast. Align, mwd, cloak, drop cloak once at 75% of top speed, (top speed of the ship when it's not cloaked) warp. If you drop cloak and to warp out before you're at speed to get into warp, this will cause problems. Many ships just move too slow for this tactic to work, like battlecruisers and battleships for example.

It's a very nice trick. You definitely don't want to get caught in a camp as it's not foolproof, but it's very effective...Hell, people have gotten Ravens past camps with this. Generally if you do it right, it takes a large, well-coordinated camp and a lot of luck to get you.
Think of it this way: Gatecampers have BAWWWWWWWWWWed on the forums asking for it to be nerfed. That's how effective it is

Well with the buff kicking blockade runners in-gear (Covert-Op's) cloak and the +2 bonus shoved into the larger brothers.... things are going to get a little interesting.

I thought this didn't work anymore, as it was fixed a couple patches ago. If you try to cloak while MWD cycle is still active you can't. Kroma BaSyl CEO - Snickers Inc

It works pretty well, when I'm running camps I put the MWD on F1, and the cloak on F2. Then, in near-instant succession, once you jump in and see the camp around you:
Click the gate or planet or station you are going to warp to Select "Warp to..." Mash F1 Mash F2
It's basically the standard operating procedure when flying CovOps and Recons. The MWD cycles off after running once, giving you that burst.
Now, when fitted to a standard hauler or whatever it is, you do the same procedure but you get more of a pucker factor. If you jump in and find the gate bubbled or a HIC/Interdictor there, you pick a point to warp to while still cloaked nearest whatever edge of the bubble you're in. Instead of "Warp to.." you click "Align to..", mash F1 and then F2, then begin to click "Warp to.." getting ready to either be decloaked or get out of the bubble. It literally takes seconds, once you see you're clear you mash F2 and warp away instantly. Of course, if you pick the next gate and it too is bubbled, you're up for a fight. If you pick a planet or a safe spot (good idea) you get there, move your ship in an off-axis direction, and mash MWD and then cloak again.
There's lots of tricks to getting by and through camps, you have to remain calm and retain your presence of mind to ensure you're not an easy kill.

I've used this for years on Minmater and Caldari BS/BC/CS and it works just fine.

and speed WAS a feature not a bug as well.....until so many cried that ccp nerfed speed like it was a bug.........when enough people learn this and campers cry enough....they will nerf this as well...say: cloaking causes a 120 second delay in establishing warp that should give all the campers long enough to lock.

lol naa because you just stay cloaked untill your far enough away that they can't see you when you decloak and warp off, but this can and will take a fair bit of time to do..

This pretty much is the whole technique. Hey I pirate, gatecamp, gank and lowsec grief, but sometimes even asshats like me need new modules, dancing girls etc.
And from a gate-campers perspective - anyone can be caught - stupidity, luck and lag abound. But I don't expect to catch frigs through shuttles, cov-ops, recons or (now) blockade runners, am I crying? No. Plenty of fools in mission running Ravens/domi's/drakes/myrms and a never ending supply of cruisers get caught (and I lol at wcs's in my sensor boosted Phobos). When I do catch one of the above, it is just bonus.
