I would appreciate it if somebody could clarify the following line in the recently released patch notes, under "fixes", "weapons & ammunition":
"Turrets will only do damage when within the maximum allowed optimal and falloff range."
a corp mate of mine thought this meant that, as an example, a turret that had an optimal of 150km would no longer be able to hit a stationary target at ranges closer than 150km... like say 50km.
I believe he was wrong in assuming this, but wanted to confirm

"within" range = at or below maximum range. your buddy misunderstood
whether or not you can track at that range is another story altogether...

Edited by: Daan Sai on 09/11/2008 04:24:23 Nooooo! this is serious, the fall off range is just the point where your dps drops by 50% due to misses. You could always take a DPS hit and go for longer range shots, at the cost of wasting more ammo. The falloff range is just a scale, not a sharp cutoff!
Wow, this is a *major* change. Why? Can the Devs please give a list of reasons for this fundamental change to falloff???
stunned if this is true. Hopefully a typo.

Does this mean that all weapons are like missiles now and are limited to a concrete maximum number?

As things stand now, you can currently score Wrecking hits (3x damage, 1% chance per shot) when your chance to hit has been reduced to zero due to range. This let you do damage, albeit very limited damage, at ranges well beyond Optimal + 2x Falloff if you're patient enough.
From what I understand, this has been fixed although I'm fuzzy as to the specifics other than you shouldn't be scoring Wrecking Hits well beyond Optimal + 2x Falloff. All normal hits will still function as before. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

I've tested it, they just didn't write it correctly. Gun range is still optimal+2x falloff.

Knowing CCP they'll break it and you won't be able to shoot further than your tracking speed... now think a bit, there you go *click* it doesn't make sense and it's not supposed to. Why? Cause it's CCP. But seriously there's balance and diversity this kills diversity balance as well probably but whatever. ------ SPEED NERF! RUN FOR THE HILLS! None of us are as dumb as all of us. |

Thank goodness! I guess the patch notes are living up to high accuracy standards like last time. Thanks Cpt B. for checking this.
