How about a light carrier?
Same basic skill reqs but differences from a carrier being: smaller and cheaper to build, no clone vat, reduced or absent ship maintenance bay (perhaps only allowing a few frigate class craft), and a maximum of ten fighter drones, all capable of being controlled by the carrier pilot.
Similarities being: logistics/fleet bonuses and capable of deploying fighter drones.
Kind of a starter carrier.

I could see a ship between battleships and carriers, but I think it would need to be limited to 5 fighters controlled. Maybe allow it to field up to 10 or 15 standard drones so it will have more firepower than a Dominix against smaller ship classes.
Basically a big Dominix-like ship, and unable to fit the highslot modules for additional drone control. Three regular drones or one fighter drone per level of skill?

if we speak in the 400mil range, i would say that 5 fighters is the max. but make it a purely combat carrier, so bonuses to tanking without triage module, drone damage, no bonus to reppers. - PvPers always say "GB2WoW". the message is that EVE is hard, and people just need to deal with it. wasn't it funny how when nano's started making it hard for *them*, that all went out the window? |

I've been thinking of the same thing, but as another tech 2 battleship. 5 fighters would be the max (there's enough of a lag issue already) but you could get a 5% damage bonus per level as well. Otherwise similar to what the OP posted, very small ship maintenance bay etc. Not sure about the jump drive, but if it does have one, it'd be the same as the black ops. I think this'd be a great idea to implement

Edited by: Kiki Arnolds on 10/11/2008 12:36:57 The problem is that it wouldn't fill the gap between BS and carriers, as you would need most of the skill training as for a carrier... so all you are doing is giving existing carrier pilots a highsec carrier... Currently you need BS5, Drone Interfacing 5, Advanced Spaceship Command 5, and Jump Skills. You could remove the Advanced Spaceship command req by making it not a cap, and the jump skills by making it unjumpable, but still talking about being most of the way to a carrier before you can fly one... ç¦ |

Sometimes you just have to say no to all the "We need a ship like X but smaller in size."
They should make a Jr Frigate for people that can't afford to outfit a real one. Wait.....
Too many ship classes with minor differences makes too little sense to implement. Sounds like Carebear people want to wage War like the Big Dogs do.

I'm tending to agree with that but I also think the problem is, it is about lack of racial difference in Eve. Make a Jr. Carrier, for the Gallente and 5 fighters is plenty. Then make a Jr. Titan for Amarr. A ship that has a 15 km XL Smartbomb it can hit every 10 minutes. Make an anti frigate/ Rocket platform for Caldari as an example. A ship that can unleash rockets on multiple targets but like rocket launchers now it needs to reload often. Make another one for the Minmitar that is unique to them. Not, here is 4 of the same thing done different based on skills, based on imaginary differences in philosophy. |
