Edited by: Necrosmith on 10/11/2008 05:24:25 So people can walk around in a station, big whoop.
Can someone tell me what I'm missing? Because right now I just don't see anything redeeming about it - at all.
Edit: Don't get me wrong, I sure would like too. I'm feeling left out not getting excited with everybody else! ---- For those of you who claim to support the troops and oppose national health care, I have a question. Why do you insist on punishing our veterans with free health care? |

The big problem is that it doesn't really bring much to the table for the core gameplay of eve. It's just an advancement of spinning your docked ship >_<

Well, I can't wait for ambulation to hit the servers. Might takes some patches until it's really nice, but well.
Just imagine walking through a corporations shop, having a look at holographic displays of their latest custom built ship. A member of the shop owner corp comes by and heavily advertises his products to you.
After you bought your new toy, you say goodbye and head back to your corps office rooms. For a scheduled meeting in the conference room, where your CEO outlines the corps future strategy, using flashy things like displaying outgame websites or the eve map above the table via holoprojectors.
After that you make some plexes, go hunting, whatever with your comrades.
Not to mention the visit in the stations most filthy bar ^^
Sounds good for me

Man I dread ambulation. Seriously. Last thing this game needs is people dancing and trying to sex each other up in public places in stations, standing around, sitting around emoting each other. You sad sad motherf*****s. Uninstall EVE pls, and go buy yourself a WoW subscription. Ambulation is a great idea, but is just going to end up attracting WoW tards so they can do the same thing they do in WoW, just with sick hot graphics. Which just makes it worse tbh.

basicly itsa an immersion thingie i guess... for corp meetings we can now actually meet im sure the RP:ers are going like crazy spending millions of isk buying station pets for their avatar and investing in the coolest best office for their corp... See it like this if you get camped in atleast you can walk around in the station and /emote angry at war targets.

Most of my friends think EvE has all they want in an MMO but wonŠt play for two reasons:
1. Illusion they will have to wait months before they can have fun 2. Lack of visible character customization and progression
2. is a big one in this genre. Many people play MMOs for escapist fantasies and to be somebody they arent. For them eve is sterile. Sure we know all about how indepth fitting ships can be, but to them they see OMG so I trained for this ship and now I look the same as every other ____ pilot.
Yeah we think these are silly but its what Keeps people in games like WoW. Adding ambulation puts that social aspect into the game that will draw those types of players. And believe me, we want them. Those OCD guild leaders who manage raids, or the insane Roleplayers who have entire server wikis will help flesh out our world even more. They will provide us with quality content we can choose to enjoy (or just fresh meat for the grinder)

Edited by: Sheriff Jones on 10/11/2008 09:13:25 RP immersion is the "big whoop".
More stuff to do is the "little whoop".
In EVE, you can become a pirate, trader, hauler, miner and now, champion in the first tabletop tournament!
And also i can finally set up my "Sheriff Jones' Six Shooter" bar.
Also, the best part is, it's optional so we don't have to have people like...you there

Edited by: Mankirks Wife on 10/11/2008 09:31:24 The reason I'm excited about Ambulation is not for what it will be when it launches, but what it could potentially become with more refinement. Planetary interaction, vehicle combat, even some of the corp tools they've discussed as part of the initial Ambulation offering.
Ambulation, when it launches, seems to me like it'll be like Eve itself was back in it first launched - really, really bare bones, but full of promise that CCP has already proven they can deliver on. ---

Edited by: NightmareX on 10/11/2008 09:33:21 What's the big deal with Ambulation?. Well i will call it something new to the game instead of the same things all the time.
Every game tends to get pretty boring after a while if it's not getting changed, and that's specially for MMO games.

And the people who fix those things don't do anything in the ambulation side.
Ambulation does not remove stuff from other EVE resources.
Game Company doesn't work like a pie you can split up accordingly when needed, specialists for special jobs. Also ambulation does not remove stuff from other EVE resources.
One more time; Ambulation does not remove stuff from other EVE resources.

While I do not wholly disagree with this statement, I think you are missing a point. Sure, it will attract WoWs tards. So what? Just don't mix into ambulation. On the good side you will have more targets to shoot, more customers to sell to, more victims to scam, and more farmers to ninjaloot. And more people that won't do anything serious in game except pay for your fun with the game. If they need to be emo to have them pay for my game I don't mind in the least.
Besides, as others observed, the ambulation stuff is a good first step towards planetary interaction.

From what i can tell, none of you went to fanfest. So you are just making assumptions about what its going to be like. I played the demo twice while i was at fanfest, and i enjoyed it. You had to bear in mind that it was Pre Alpha, so everything i saw could change and it was only a small bit of it.
The look and feel of walking around the station, going into the minmatar bar and watching the stripper dancing (Well frozen in one position, BUG , watching the npc's go about there normal life. IT was cool.
Dont worry your spaceships are going to be safe, it will still remain a option. In the demostration, the dev docked his ship and was presented with the same view we all get of our ship. He then clicked a button on the left side. You dont have to click that ever.
We will be able to open up, Bars, tatto parlors, cosmetic surgery centres, Corporation Offices plus more
They will be totally customisable to a point (Keeping the look of Minmatar minmatar and gallentee gallentee etc) But if you want to turn a bar into a strip joint you can only hire loads of Exotic Dancers maybe or buy loads of display cases and show off your frozen corpses.
We have to remember, with ambulation it is a stepping stone into bigger and better things i.e Planetery interaction, POC (PLayer owned City's), terriforming dangerous planets, maybe pvp avatar combat or vehicular combat. The list is endless and i think the dev wants this game to be everything in one game. I belive it will be and i will be happy to only play one game for all my gaming needs.
Keep up the good work CCP

Edited by: Demeterus on 10/11/2008 11:04:50 To me Eve is not a game about internet spaceships - it's a game about scamming, killing, controlling, devastating for fun and profit. It is already, though it doesn't really show, possibly the most social mmo out there. You just can't get around other people in this game. You need other people, either as targets or as backup.
Yes you can solo missions all day, but you have to interact with other people merely by keeping the other players in mind for your own safety's sake. People call this an "internet space ship game". I would disagree with that and I would call this "an internet social game".
So, where does Ambulation fit in? Well, it enhances the social aspects, really. I disagree with CCP that you shouldn't be able to fight in station. Their reasoning is the "spoon effect", meaning that someone could kill a really powerful alliance leader with a spoon if you could do that. My response to that is, so what? The big powerful alliance leader wakes up in his pod, and has to adapt to the social ramifications around him. Ie hire gorillas for protection, which further enhances the social elements of the game.
And yes, most of the enjoyment I derive from this game is this aspect. It's just not very much fun farming a belt for hours, or sitting in a hulk. The fun thing is meeting other people - whether those other people really care for meeting me or not. And the fun thing is the interactions with corpmates, or targets. If I wanted to play a single player game online, I'd play WoW.
And ambulation will aid that greatly.

Because Ambulation is the first step into an EvE universe that's expending into other dimenstions of gameplay. In and of itself, the first stage is mostly "fluff": just "ooh shiney" stuff to get the technology base laid down. Once it's working, and if it's successful, then the scope is there to put infinitely more involvement in. Imagine exploration when instead of a silly hacker module on your ship, you dock up with the ancient ruins and go inside looking for valuables. Imagine a mission where instead of killing 6 waves of Merc BS, you have to go to a pirate outpost and assassinate Zor in his pleasure hub and actually rescure that stupid damsel in person.

The rescue hopefully with a couple of squads of on-board security forces, since one of the few ways a Pod-pilot can die permanently is to get killed while outside his pod. (no emergency zapping hardware around to move you to a clone incase of mishaps)
