CCP said that they had a lot of cool things to reveal at the Fanfest. I was not there, so i'm wondering where we can find all the related things like pictures, videos, news :)

It's 9.30 AM GMT, I doubt the devs are even awake yet. If I heard correctly the party at the top of the world continued until 7 AM on sunday, they'll need a while to recover.
And that's not even counting time needed to edit all the footage and prepare it for posting, give it a few more days.

i dont think they sleep tbvfh :/ the party closed about 3:something and people were filtering out slowly so go knows when the last guy finally left.
most of the weekend people headed down to various watering holes and drank more. each night the devs were still there when i left and were there before i got to FF the next morning.
i believe footage and pics will be added but give it a few days at least beofre seeing some oficial content released.

Let's see what I can remember (in no useful order)…
Tranquility and Serenity have very similar economics, in spite of a rather different game focus (Serenity players are more combat oriented). On both servers, the economy is healthy.
With the "establishment slots" (bars, shops, corp HQs etc) and the player-scriptable NPCs, you can create stores that sell your personal goods to other players. You can also create your own missions by having your NPCs give out stuff in one end, asking for them somewhere else, and paying off whoever transports the items between the two. To limit who can do this, you can program bouncer-NPCs to only let a certain clientel in to get at those products, based on pretty much any kind of character statistic (or, as everyone figured out, you can create minimum-wallet requirements for your establishment and thus let you scope out whom to ransom at the next gate and for how much…). Each station will have a limited number of slots, just like with the corp offices, and they will cost money to rent… so start fleecing those customers.
On the industry side, there is a move towards transplanting the T2 mechanics down to T1 as well (with lower requirements of course), and add a component-manufacturing step between the mineral and the final-product stages. It was unclear whether this would extend to named items as well, but the aim is to remove more or less all NPC-originating items (rat droppings, mission rewards etc) and make everything player-manufactured.
Graphics upgrade continues, with new particle-based effects replacing older geometry-based ones (the NOS effect they showed off almost looks like you're sucking clouds of blood out of the other ship), and with premium-upgraded NPC ships. There's also an on-going effort to upgrade the look of space in general, giving it some sense of continuous geography: instead of random constellation-based backdrops with no connection to each other, the skies will change to reflect that you're moving in a given direction. Travel south on the star map, and the southern features in the sky will come closer.
Mining is getting revamped. While the old belts will still be around in some form, they'll mostly contain crap and will be a place for new players to earn their first ISK. More advanced (and profitable) mining will be more based on scanning down what you want, than on jumping to belt 1-1 and locking up what's closest. This includes scanning down the minerals and ores within the belt as well — there won't be an easy-to-pick-from list, but rather just a bunch of rocks and you need to figure out which contains what (and every now and then you find some really nice stuff hidden away). Long-term dreams also include travelling inside huge asteroids or comets to get to the juicy goodies in the middle.
Meta-gaming takes on a whole new meaning with in-ambulation tabletop games (pay EVE to get to ambulation to get to the table games to get to other player's ISK and items), where you can go up against the AI or other players and play for ISK or even, hopefully, any kind of contractable item… so no, your ship isn't safe, even when docked.
Mac and Linux gets premium in 2009 (it's required for ambulation anyway, so they can't really get that out before premium exists across the board). It was shown as running on Mac, right now, but still needs some tweaking.
The EVE pen-and-paper RPG is moving ahead, fleshing out the world around the MMO. It looks to be focused more on the little guy than on pod-pilots and their huge ships (the MMO already covers that aspect). The CCG, on the other hand, came out too late to a downwards market and is more or less dead by now… unless it gets turned into an in-ambulation table game.
…and of course, the usual T3 and wormhole stuff that goes into the "summer" (ie March 10) expansion.
Also, CCP spends far too much time making funny videos and murdering each other in the corridors…

This all sounds like a huge expansion. My ISP often restricts my download limits due to "fair usage" i think CCP should release this expansion in CD/DVD format so that it would be easier to install and possibly generate new income. it would also make eve more competitive against the other mmolg.

More than 750 Fanfest 2008 attendees were treated to three days straight of non-stop breaking news and new features for EVE Online. The Quantum Rise presentation was given to a packed house, a Walking in Stations hands-on demo was available, and multiple speakers detailed what's in store for the Summer Expansion - new effects, game play features, and improved AI. Want more? CCP announced a partnership with Atari to bring EVE back to retail shelves (adding a new distribution option to CCP's successful digital distribution system). In the Summer Expansion, players can look forward to unstable wormholes, epic mission arcs, and a revamped new player experience. STILL want more? Then top that off with customizable Tech 3 ships! The biggest news? It's not coming in the summer. The next EVE Expansion will be delivered on March 10! More news and links to coverage can be found on the EVE-O Boards |

Yeah, right... We've heard and seen that before.. It will all be SOON(tm) and "Sorry, but we had to delay 95% of the content and the other 5% we revamped - instead we've added important feature in this expanion: a TRIPPLE CLICK! that works exactly like a SINGLE CLICK but helps people who are ****ed with the game and click too much because of nerve tick". I'll belive it when I see it what is rather NOT going to happen or worse - WILL happen but will be utter fail.

English is not my native, so maybe I used the wrong statemnt form. Point is: We've heard such promises before and they turned out to be lies. I feel VERY dissapointed because I was checking all the Dev Blogs, Game Development and Features and Ideas, I waited to see the promised things and now I feel cheated. So this time Im not going to belive any of this PR crap and hollow promises untill they appear in official patch notes and I can confirm them myslef.
A little problem that I've found now is that my subscription ends in January and I REALY doubt I will extend it futher just to see how all of this "new stuff" turns out to be a SCAM again. Dunno yet, right now Im in the "log in, switch skill, log out" phase.

your English is fine actually, he was wrong cause they both mean bullcrap "i'll believe it when I see it it" means I very much doubt it will happen, and I will believe it when it is in front of me.

omg, while im all for making it harder for macro-miners to **** belts of ore and stuff i think this idea is verging on annoying those ppl who just want to sit around and mine all day long.
not only have we got to contend with can flippers and guys who just want to annoy miners all day but now your saying we have to go around hunting for belts too, come on get real.
this is verging on the obserd.

Re: Mining
If all products start coming from players, that pirate who hassles miners might have more to consider. The miner who he hassles will tell the people he supplies that "pirate X is slowing my deliveries". The producer says "I won't sell to pirate X". Thus, some of the supply shuts down for the pirate, and he has to pay higher prices.
Or he's a privateer, sent by a different producer to go and spoil the supply lines. Griefing only has consequences if you tell people. |
