From the various fanfest posts I gather that CCP has made an unusual number of short-term promises for new stuff.
Now one could consider these a desperate move to keep subscriptions up (financial crisis, some cancellations), but let's give them the benefit of doubt and think positively for once.
* does this mean that WoD is shelved / ressources are withdrawn from it and put back into EVE?
Certainly the manpower required for the announced changes in that timeframe has not been working on EVE in the last 1-2 years, that's obvious from the slow development pace we've seen. I also doubt that CCP has been hiring aggressively in the past few months.

WoD-Online is still, as it was, in pre-production. That's about all there is to say about that as nothing else is guaranteed to hold.

They did say that they were going to refocus on their main product, meaning EVE. Werther that is removing manpower from WoD or just hiring more people, I dunno.
But they are going to bring in more shiny stuff short term. They even mentioned a date, march 10 I believe _

If you had to make a wild, educated, non-binding, your opinion, guess, will WoD have the same real-time skill training?

We don't comment on unannounced games. World of Darkness is not "announced" in the formal sense and therefore we don't comment on it. At all.
The EVE RPG continues to be developed and is working towards a 2009 release date.

Im not saying there is any reason for you to talk about a anything you dont want to. But its a bit absurd to use contrived exceptions like "formal" with reference to a game that your company has definitely announced.
If you think corp is different than a guild or clan you have some insecurity issues.

While we do appreciate a quickly response, we feel that the branching out to another game by CCP only serves to devalue its Flagship product Eve.

Wait.. Eve RPG? Is this just a fancy way to talk about ambulation? Because ambulation isn't really a RPG unless i've missed something. =============================== /me points at Mission runners. /me laughs. /me points. |

No, it's an actual pen-and-paper RPG based on the ≡v≡ world.

Could it be they are getting the future WoD developers experience with the tools and software by working on EVE doing meaningful work. That way when the design and direction for WoD are ready, the dev team would already be up to speed.

I doubt it. Why would they shelve WoD but produce a console FPS?

We don't know. Never have, because CCP hasn't actually released any information about WoD. And that's their prerogative.
So we can only speculate. For example, I can speculate that development of WoD is tied in closely with WiS. I can also speculate that WiS was actually planned to be released this winter. I can also speculate that WiS however turned out to be more difficult to do than was expected and was therefore pushed back. And if I can speculate that, I can speculate that that will have pushed back WoD as well. And since we're speculating, I can speculate that that may have caused CCP to change their priorities, i.e. moving it back to EVE, you know, something that works, is popular, and brings in the dough. And if I can speculate that, I can speculate that that means that people who where working on WoD, or on EVE-WoD hybrid implementations, are now put to work on EVE again.
But again, that's all speculation.
BTW, bit of a smack-down by RyanD there, wonder if the question hit a nerve somewhere ... lets hope Prism X hasn't gotten himself in some sort of trouble. -- Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? |
