What size are the new Tech3 ships? BS, BC??? More importantly can you pirate in them?

First, T3 ships come in march 2009 the earliest, maybe later. Second, there's 5 sizes for each race, so one can only assume frig, dessy, cruiser, BC and BS base hulls. Third, there's going to be hundreds of variations for each size/race, so if you can afford to risk'em, why not pirate in them

They looked cruiser sized from the video, though I could be horribly wrong.

You're not confusing with the 5 hull parts per T3 ship?
It would make sense from a design point of view, to prevent T3 interceptors carrying heavy missiles and so on, but that mean 5 or 6 parts per size par race, total 500 parts. That number seem a bit high to me for something coming out in march. ------------------------------------------

The new ships don't have a size yet. They're all new ships, they are not based on any existing hull, so categorizing them as frigates, cruisers or battleships is completely pointless untill we know what they can actually fit, and how big they are.

There were definite drake and ferox parts there so I'm guessing we will have a BC size, and hoping to god for a cruiser sized variant. ----------

Based on absolutely nothing, it looked to me like the "core" module, onto which everything else was attached, was roughly frigate-sized. Adding one or two more sections made it cruiser-ish in size, and the full five-piece shebang was BC-like.

How can you tell? Caldari all look the same. You have varrying states of over-grown plated girders.
They should have done the demo with Galente ships. THEN you could tell.

jesus christ, i wasn't even there, and i got the gist of it from the video, why is this so hard?
there isn't a BC, BS, or frig part, your ship is WHAT YOU MAKE IT.
depending on what parts you use, in what places, says how big your ship is.
I'm not getting why this is so hard to understand.

Mostly speculation and a tiny bit of common sense.
Quote: It would make sense from a design point of view, to prevent T3 interceptors carrying heavy missiles and so on, but that mean 5 or 6 parts per size par race, total 500 parts. That number seem a bit high to me for something coming out in march.
Well, I can only assume it's something like component 1 determining hull size (with 5 base stats/layout variations), component 2 determining weapon systems (x% launchers, y% turrets, +- dronebay/bandwidth) component 3 mainly determining slottage modifiers (+x mids, -y highs, +z lows), components 4 and 5 modifying various stats of the ship and details in the look... with all possible parts having certain bonuses attached. Component types 1 and 2 would be heavily race-specific, while components 3, 4 and 5 could be common among all races. So, theoretically, they could get away with 2*4*5*5+3*5 = 215 individual components that could create 12500 possible ship combinations (3125 for each race, 625 for each race/size). Anything else would be sheer madness in the art/data-entry department Heck, it might just be 120 components (100 = 25 for each race + 20 = 4*5 common).

A link to the video would be much easier Also, AFAIK, it's all "work in progress", so it's not too late to still wildly speculate what parts of the presentation will be kept and which dropped altogether as "too much work"

T3 is going to suck its going to be a mess of underpowered and overpowered crap that will suffer from imbalance and the typical nerf cycle, they have not even managed to balance the current content without adding 3000+ new combinations of god knows what. |

I'd go with this one. Some of the ships shown only contained 2 parts, so guessing anything from Frigate <> Battleship sizes are possible.
Calling primary during a fleet battle just got a whole lot more difficult. Will be interesting to see how the bracket system is implemented. |

I just read an official statement which says that t3 ships will be prenerfed. (like blackops)
Also that they will be prenerfed for a long time and will never be fixed. (thought they were promised to be fixed?!?) |

Doubt we'll see T3 ship fleets in fleet battles. I mean, we don't exactly see Marauder fleets or stuff like that... given that a fleet battle generally involves high chances just because your name starts with a A, you lagged out or something, and mere T2 BS start with 600-700M uninsurable pricetag... well.
Battleships which still get one-volleyed and cost a billion+ for hull alone would be rather absurd, wouldn't they?

I really like the idea of modular shipdesign, that a very creative way to biuld up a vessel that best fits your needs.
However, I see some problems coming if looks get connected with stats, so that you have to use that hull or that engine to achieve certain attributes for the ship.
Problem 1: Some ship designs will be rather popular because of their stats, while others won't be. I think for most players stats > looks of a ship. so if you combine stats with certain design parts, you will sabotage the idea of individualized ships.
Problem 2: I build up a ship with the perfect stats for my needs, but I hate the looks of it. guess what? I'll complain! This will sure be inevitable, as opinions about ship designs vary greatly within the community.
These are the problems which came to mind when I saw the fanfest vid. Easy solution: Allow players to choose the ship design independently from ship stats. Let them design the ship of their dreams, and then assign stats within certain boundaries (you can use these boundaries to balance things out whenever you need to avoid ludicrously fast ships or whatever). And I think you will get satisfied customers rechoicing in a "Pimp my spaceship" hype.
Thats my opnion. Sorry If I misunderstood something, but from the fanfest presentation it sounded like stats and shipparts will be connected. If they are not, never mind..
