Ive been playing now for a month and have had no problems until yesterday. CCP also told me to use pingplotter, the oldest post about this topic is almost year old, come on CCP there must be some way that this can be fixed.

I bought a prepaid semi-shaped 1gb account from Axxess just before 6pm and I've been online for 1 1/2 hours without a DC. Be carefull though, Axxess' full unshaped accounts use the SAIX backbone, the Semi Shaped uses IS.

Azran Zala, you're my hero.
Axxess semi-shaped account did the trick, still up and running without even a wobble 2 hours later. We'll see how long Telkom takes to resolve this.

Switching to an Axxess pre-paid semi-shaped solved all my Eve Online disconnect problems, been up and running for 1.75 hours now. Thanks

from SA too. Been having the same socket issues since Monday with my SAIX account, however as already mentioned, IS accounts seem to be working fine. Swapped over to that since the issues. Its a pain really. Telkom, fix your s**t.

Hey, great to see so many fellow south africans here. I have the same problem while my alliance is in the middle of a nasty little war. Can't stay connected for more than 5 minutes.
I'm using mweb adsl. A Corp mate uses iburst and he doesn't have any problems. Guess I'm signing up for axxes tonight. Will post whether it solves the problem.

LoL yeah same, I could usually only log into forumn from work XP Interesting the things you learn trying to solve one issue that leads you elsewhere ^^
I found out there is a way to fix that, by using the proxie: dsl-cache.saix.net - port 8080
Its cause some websites, like this one, record the ip address u loged in from and store it against your session... if the ip suddenly changes it looses your session.
As Kativia suggested, With telkom/saix accounts international trafic goes through a transparent proxie farm they use for shaping the badwidth, and reducing the priority of certian traffic like p2p ect. The side effect being that the IP adress remote servers see u connecting from changes frequently.
I assume IS has a simalar thing going for shaped accounts, but my guess is they have a better crew implementing it instead of the monkeys at telkom.
The ironic thing is most gamers choose the saix network over IS cause its supposed to have less latency.

Hi All
First of all i need to send a shout out to Azran Zala, you are my hero with your post above !
i have never been able to post on these forms until i used your Proxy information. Thank you !
As for Telkom, better known as Hellkom, the problem still persists. I have already contacted them 3 times and its obvious that their SAIX network is screwed, i guess the real question is how long will it take them to fix it
Thanx to all those for posting the information about Axxess
Note: if you do sign up to Axxess be sure to take the semi-shaped option that runs on the IS Network, try to avoid telkoms SAIX until they wake up.

Hallalujah!!! Thanks to all of you who helped solve this issue - Axxess is definitely working for me too - was online with no disconnects for nearly three hours. Also thanks to the proxy hint - also the first time I've managed to reply to a topic since I started playing. Wow - it's so cool having the worst internet in the world down here, isn't it? (that was sarcastic for those didn't spot it). Thanks again guys - it's great to be back up and playing again.

My D-Link DI-524 rev C used to cause the error somehow. It was a somewhat old router (no longer supported) and since switching to a Linksys WRT160N I never get the socket error anymore.

Switched to an Axxess semi shapped account and have the same problem.
Socket closed every few minutes. Seldom last more than 10 minutes. This is my first day after reactivating my account and this sucks.

Yep - same here. Using the Axxess acount which I was raving about four posts ago and I'm still getting disconnected. It seems to work fine at night so all I can think is that it's the "shaped" internet that is killing the game. Axxess has un-shaped in the evenings and played on Thursday night for about 3 hours without any problems.
It's getting pretty depressing. Like a lot of you I've only just re-instated my account and if I don't get this sorted out in the next few days I'm just going to cancel it again - no point really. Haven't tried calling Telkom simply cos I know they won't have the faintest idea of what I'm talking about.
Unless CCP can help us with whatever it is that has changed recently we're screwed - and since CCP seems to answer queries once every couple of years I wouldn't hold my breath.
Keep us posted if anything changes otherwise I'm outta here at the end of the month.

you might want to try and set your connection up using a dialup through your router.. thats what i do and it works fine, also allows easy switching between your telkom account and your axxess account.

Incredibly ****ed off.
In a 0.4 system that's surrounded by highsec; Nightmare pilot in system, goes global after firing on another pilot. I then see him leave local Turns out he jumped out of the system.
I follow him, see the wreck - bingo! Slam the MWD on to get there first aaaaaand
Socket Closed.
log back in, and of course it's all gone already.
So, we got a fix yet?

For the South-African users, this is DEFINATELY a SAIX problem and NOT CCP's fault.
The link below shows a ping plot and how there is 100% packet loss consistently every about 3.5minutes for around 40 seconds.
The packet loss mostly starts at the Telkom router that's the first hop to go out of South-Africa.
Most South-Africans with this problem solve it by using an IS backbone ISP such as Axxess.
Here's the ping plot : Ping Plot

Using an Internet Solutions account (or an account which resells IS accounts like Axxess) does the trick. I hope saix fix this though, because I have a contract with them and I dont want to pay for two accounts, one of which I wont be using.

So how it is that as soon as I say something in this topic, I start getting frequent Socket Closed disconnects? No such thing as a coincidence.

Originally by: corbin1 Sometimes I get dropped to the login screen at random. Maybe I activated a jump gate. Maybe I clicked on a market item to see what's available.
Other times I get dropped after 1-3 minutes of being idle. One day over the course of an hour of not having any idle time, I was disconnected 19 times. I gave up and quit playing for the day. This is getting very annoying since it persists off and on this way.
It is happening on two computers with different hardware and windows versions. For completeness, I wiped and reloaded them both. I tried connecting each directly instead of using a router. Problems still persist no matter what on all my accounts.
Since that post I have moved to a different system and my connection problems vanished instantly. The rest of my corp seems to still be plagued by constant disconnects.
Doesn't seem to be region specific, but possibly system specific as two jumps from my current location a corp-mate still gets disconnected constantly.
I had another corp-mate who had no disconnects flying where I am travel 21 jumps for a weekend and was getting disconnected the entire time. After the weekend he flew back and no more disconnects.
Hope this is helpful if CCP reads it.

Ive had this issue for the last 6-8 months in western canada... today i started pingplotter just before i went to work (around 9am local time) and left it running pinging the eve server IP all day.
Ive returned 11 hours later and see massive swaths of red on the timeline graph indicating what wouldve resulted in a disconnect from the server. i can see huge packet loss percentages from top to bottom (11 hops total) including on CCPs IPs... this is including my provider and aparently the british provider thats the primary for the server. (mine being Telus communications, the euro one being Telia, which is aparently swedish)
now one of my conspiracy theories that ive had for a while is that phone companies providing digital tv as well as internet and phone service is whats causing the sporadic ones for me personally. upon visiting the telia website, they advertise identilcal services as telus here in canada do. IE digital tv and all that BS. i mean really.... how long has the internet been around for.... you would think that these companies would know how to provide proper service instead of this bum****ery that does nothing but make us internet dwellers miserable /rant
Also, this doesnt just affect my eve connectivity, it looms over every internet related thing i do. Webpages dont update, MSN disconnects, online shooters etc. all lag and ping in the 260ms zone or cut connection completely... ****ing bull****
Pre edit edit... aparently eve files doesnt like .pp2 files so i cant give you a download of the file atm
