Edited by: Dreamzane on 13/11/2008 07:39:52 Edited by: Dreamzane on 13/11/2008 07:36:15 Apperantly, the US-army are interested to test out "computer generated humans" in EVE-Only to see if we will discover that they are AI:s. They will plug them in as players and the AI will try to make their best to pass as normal EVE-player. Next time you get a new US-player in your corp and he is active a bit strange, like having a austrian accent or something .-) :-) Then it might be an US-military AI.
"To test out the computer generated humansÆ ôhumanity,ö Parmentola and his researchers want to unleash some of their cyber Soldiers into so-called ômassively multi-player online gamesö such as ôWorld of Warcraftö or ôEve Onlineö - games frequented by thousands of super-competitive human players in teams of virtual characters fighting battles that can last for days." Interesting. I wonder if the AI players will be only there to communicate or they will program them to attempt to actually take part in game activities such as PvP/PvE or market.

If they succeed then you will never know will you? Hence you will not care and subsequently you will not need to give permission.

The chinese ones speak?
Ones near me isn't very aggressive, kill a few and they won't kill you back, very odd since I'm used to Lineage where the iskfarmers were the most aggressive PvPers as well.
But they're not talking.. not getting much use for the few phrases I know.

I thought so too when reading the article first (about Eve being used). As there is no other mention of it anywhere else, I rather came to the conclusion this is just a quote in terms of examples. They could have chosen Hello Kitty Online thus, too ;)
So essentially it doesn't really say we'll be seeing uber-macros in here.

Seeings nobody has come anywhere near passing the turing test yet, it's unlikely they will chat, or even join player corps. They will sit in NPC corps and mine/rat all day at best.

I've seen this article a few weeks ago on another website. Next time I get ganked I'm blamming it on a bot. I just hope it doesn't become evil hanging around all the scammers in eve.

Technicly they would be AI, not bots nor macro. Tho, arguably, if CCP finds out they might very well be banned for same reasons as bots (and quite possibly macro) would.
But no, it's not the same thing.

I dunno - a some of the PVPers I've seen smacking in local wouldn't pass the Turing test either...
It sounds to me like they're looking more for playing style and, like you suggest, fool the other players, but it sounds like an interesting concept if true.
Of course, they'd technically be falling foul of the "no macros" or the "using third party computer programs with the EVE client" rule, to be more precise. Unless they're looking to use visual recognition routines, of course.
Wonder if we'll see them be the first people to be officially allowed to break this rule? Or will they be found out and permabanned (that would be so funny).
