Edited by: MinSebsis on 13/11/2008 20:17:28 Hello,
Beginning of next year I am getting a new PC, but I am torn between dual monitor's or one Wide Screen(22inch).
I know that Eve does not support dual monitor's nicely at this time, but I was reading some info coming out of fan-fest about different screen resolutions and maybe dual monitor support.
Should I go dual monitor's with the hope dual screen EvE will go live Soon(tm) or should I hold no hope for it and just go with the 22 inch wide screen. And does a 22inch wide screen look nice??
Thanks Minsebsis

Currently I'm using 2 x 24" monitors (a gateway hd and an acer x241w), and other than a few settings tweaking, i'm loving it.
Or...you could go with one of the newer HD monitors (not computer gear) that support 1900x1080 resolution and have it all.
BUT...you'd better have a gfx card capable of handling it. (8x series nvidia or better, imho.)

I've got a 22" widescreen set up on the left side of my desk, and it is used to play Eve in all of its glory. To its right I have the normal 17" that came with my computer way back when I got it. This is used for browsing the forums and watching stuff on hulu. It works really well. I haven't even tried to run eve on both screen, my guess is that it wouldn't work well for me.
Edit - Oh, and once you've played Eve on a 22" widescreen or bigger, you'll never ever want to go back.

Yeah I got a Samsung 22" and a Viewsonic 22", multiple clients aren't running so well since this update though

All I suggest is if you do get two monitors, get two identical models so that you can set them identically without fail. Both the desktop sizes, qualities, etc. AND the monitor heights and angles.
I was dualing with two different monitor makes. It can give you a headache after awhile because of the change in resolution or screen placements. - - - Aloriana Jacques - Skill Sheet

I would say dual monitors are the way to go, so much more useful than one. Im currently running 1 24" as my main and a 19". As soon as I got some cash will go two 24".

2 x 24" LCD here. The best way to run it I've found is to tell the video card to treat them as a single 3840x1200 monitor. Then I create a custom resolution of 1800x1200 in the video card config, which then shows up in eve's list of resolutions.
So I can run two clients in windows mode at 1800x1100, they fit very nicely one each screen.
Reason I tell the video card to merge the monitors into one is that the alternative, having 2 separate 1920x1200 screens, seems to screw with the 3d graphics, only one screen works properly the other runs at 5fps. Merging them into a single big screen means both run at full speed for some reason.
I get about 80fps in empty space with this config
Nvidia 8800gt here, maybe that's the problem. YMMV as always...

Dual monitors for sure. I have 2 19' monitors, best thing I have gotten for my computer.

2x22inch widescreens is where it's at. You can get them really cheap now. Once you've gone dual screen you'll never go back. I even made my workplace buy me another monitor to make me feel at home.

Personally I hate the new monitors.
I prefer more vertical resolution then the standard 1680 x 1050 22" 0.282mm pixel Instead I will take a 1600x1200 20" 0.255mm or better pixel.
In some ways I think we have taken a step back by trying to make everything work as a TV.
So take a really close look @ what you are trading out before going with a large single or 2 smaller screens.

I'm actually using a Dell 30" with 2560x1600. For most of the games it's just to big, but eve runs awesome. Using a Geforce 8800GTX on premium graphics and allways over 80 fps, except large fleet battles. Then the framerate drops to 0.1 fps (without brakets it went up to 0.3)

This. I was recently looking at getting new monitors, and was set on dual 24" LCDs, but due to viewing angles and color depth on TN panels, the expense and input lag of S-PVAs, and the **** DPI/PPI/Dot Pitch on all of them, I decided to stick with my old CRTs. LCDs still aren't worth buying, but there are a small number of 22" around that run at 1920x1200, so there is hope for the future. -
