Edited by: Willy Nerfalot on 17/11/2008 22:14:50 Today, real life pirates captured their biggest ship ever, a supertanker filled with 2 mil barrels of oil.
Military experts suggest it was completely undefended.
Is this the real life equivalent of a Badger Mk II full of zydrine getting ganked in lowsec? |

I'd say more a ransom then a gank.
Of course these guys still have to not get their prize stormed by X countries Navy, and avoid the assassins that the Saudi's are going to send after them.

2 mil barrel * $50 (market price) = $100m $100m/15 = 6 666 666,67 30day timecodes 6 666 666,67 x 300 m (more or less Rens price) = 2 000 000 000 000 000 isk = 2 000 000 B
So they stole just a little more than a badger II full of zydrine :) Fetchez la vache !

Good god. We're in the wrong business.
Anyone have any clue what the going rate is for an ak-47 + rpg launcher? If the Russians hear about this they're going to grab all the good spots and farm out the rest.

Now in EVE, we laugh at the noobness of carrying such a cargo in a paper thin ship with no defence.
Presumably we should do the same in the real life case?

The Somali's don't really know that the tanker was planted. It's really full of fudge. |

i would like to add that the YARR team had nothing to do with this and more importantly than the oil being recovered is the crew. |

Nah. The Russians prefer to disguise their warships as targets and bait the pirates. |
