Atm both need nearly the same skills and there should be a noticeable difference between the best T1 Mining Ship and the best T2. The step from a Retriever to a Covetor is way to big compared to every other ship: (used a new clean 900SP char) Procurer -> Retriever -> Covetor 7days -> 13d -> 108d Exhumers: Skiff -> Mackinaw -> Hulk 108 days -> 109 days -> 111 days compared with BS: Armageddon -> Apocalypse -> Abaddon 17 days -> 17 days + some hours -> 21 days (those numbers are just relative)
Here the skills: Covetor ------------- Hulk Science 4-------------Science 4 Mining 4--------------Mining 4 Astrogeology 5--------Astrogeology 5 Industry 5------------Industry 5 Mining Barge 5--------Mining Barge ----------------------Spaceship Command 4 ----------------------Exhumers 3
The difference between both ships in training time is around 3-7 days depending on the attributes, while the difference between the lvl 2 T1 Barge to the lvl 3 Barge is massive.
Lowering the skill requs of the Covetor from Mining Barge lvl 5 to lvl 3 would do a great job and would also make the Mining Career more attractive. Atm it's just boring and while Fighters get new tools and ships every couple of days a miner is damned to wait over months to get into a position where he can make appropriate money in time.

Actually, the requirement of the Covetor should be lowered to barge level 4, and the requirements for the exhumers should be exhumers levels 2, 3 and 4... Keep mining barge at V but set Astrogeology req to IV. Why? The Exhumers skill itself needs Astrogeology V and the Mining Barge skill currently jumps from, I (Procurer) to III (Retriever) to V (Covetor).
That way when you fly a Covetor, you get the full bonus for its class.

I agree with this. For the sake of usefulness, the Covetor needs its requirements lowered to Astrogeology IV instead of V. Barge V can remain.
(I have Exhumers V, so no, I do not whine about not being able to fly it. It just makes SENSE that there's some actual training to be done between the Cov and the Hulk)
Balance is important, but you will always adapt to changing circumstances and you don't whine about stuff you can't change. |
