What big exploits / bugs have there been in EVE that players have been using to gain personal benefits?
Would be nice to have a bit of history, about this topic.

yeh that i know :D training while your account was inactive (for those that dont know) pay for 1 month, get up to lvl 4 on a long skill. let it run for one month after account have gone inactive and then pay for another month and log on and skill is done. recently taken away.

POS Bowling.
Get a very big ship up to high speed and bump out ships inside the sheilds.
Now considered an exploit.

The smartbomb ratting was simple
--Fit smartbombs on several ship --Make sure the ships have the cap to perma-run them --Fly to belt --Fly to position where rats spawn (at this time rats ALWAYS spawned at a specific KNOWN point) --Active smart bombs, and let them run.
Eventually, the NPCs would spawn, and nearly instantly die. At that date in Eve's history, if you killed rats fast, they spawned back faster, so you almost immediately got new NPCs spawning,.... who almost instantly died.... causing more NPCs to almost instantly spawn.... who almost instantly died...., etc, etc, etc....
Even with tiny bounties, folks who used the exploit were making big money. CCP perma-banned the worst abusers.
As for Concord tanking, I'm less familar with it, as I've never been very aggressive in high sec, but if rumor is true, there was a time when remote reping someone in fight, even if they were being attacked by concord, was NOT an illegal act.
Play nice while you butcher each other.

hey hey
Sploit : remote repping the npc's (never did but know some people who did)
instead of taking any sec hit or getting agression first you could warp into a belt and simply remote rep the npc who has your victim tackled. effectivly using the npc as your tackler.
this was seen alot in some of the high sec plexes and due to the high respawns your tank would soon break and leave a nice looking wreck for someone to loot.
Fix : you will now get criminally flagged when you remote rep and npc.
Sploit : "Gate Sniping" back in the day when a tempest had decent enough alpha and range they would sit 150+km from a gate and simply snipe you from afar. you were locked and dead before you could warp. the sentries couldnt save you because they had 150km range gunz only. you could also do this with a pos and you outranged its gunz and assaulted in in BS's
Fix(s) Gate/POS guns increased range and max 249km lock range cap.
Sploit : BSOD smartbombing ships placed at the exit point of a station would kill you faster than your ship would appear in space
Fix : 5km activation range near a station iirc
btw you still get smartbombing BS's and carriers/moms sitting at a gate doing the disco. this isnt considered an exploit

When war decs cost the same a certain alliance used it as a way to attract more corps in to their alliance, those corps would pay for the war dec on an enemy once they joined this alliance, hence lots of targets for all alliance members, excellent idea, which got nerfed when war deccing cost rose depending on how many war decs you already have. can't remember alliance name, possibly privateers. ====================

You might want to think again about this one. They still only fire 150.

Privs funded a metric **** load of wars so people could pvp in empire. Empire became a complete warzone. someone in CCP lost a ship to privateers and that was the end of that saga

its player owned ships that had a capped to a max range.. 249.99km..
sentry guns still have a range of 150km.

Most profitable exploits:
POS-bowling (bumping all sorts of ships out of POS shields and then boarding them and leaving) Jumpbridging freighters with Titan to npc-trade in 0.0 with static trade routes to make billions and billions every day. 0.0 Cosmos plex despawn camping to effectively 'own' multi-billion isk plexes from DT-to-DT
Of these only POS-bowling are currently considered an exploit these days, but the rest still go on.

Something I found on Sisi with Blackops. Not heard of it being used but basicly you could blackops jump ANY ship provided you had the fuel.
Also the blackops portal would remain open as long as the cyno was up (though the effect would vanish)
I have a video of my alt in a stabber (on sisi) going though the same portal twice by jumping, warping back to gate, jumping back to the blackops, warping to it, jumping though portal again.
Also did it with a tempest.
Must edit that fraps :D
It was fixed pretty fast though.

You used to be able to adjust your graphics settings in a certain way to make out the outline of a cloaked ship.
CCP has now fixed this by removing them from space altogether, which is why sometimes you do not decloak when an interceptor comes past less than 2,000m from you as you client may not have updated in the moment it was inside that range.
Oh and when blackops were first released you could shoot someone in empire and then cyno out to low-sec before concord got you!
There are many places in this game where battles are fought and won, EFT isn't one of them. |

Miner exploit.. Due to lag in ever sometimes when you would drag ore from your cargo to Jetcan it would not register the ore being taken out of the cargo hold. Heard of a guy do this one day as fast as he could and when it caught up his cargo can was holding 344,000 m3 of a certain rock...THis went on for a bit then eve fixed the problem
