I haven't been keeping track of Jita's load, but I just saw it at 913 in local. In the good old days that would have meant crippling lag for doing anything. But now, I'm sitting in 4-4, no noticeable lag in market orders. Wonder what the new ceiling for Jita is now? And how soon before we reach it?

Last news I read Jita is capped at 1000, anyone trying to enter Jita over 1000 will be denied access to the system. Anyone logging into Jita when it's capped will log into an adjascent system.

I don't know what you're reading but the last dev blog to touch on the subject claimed the cap was at 1400 and later devs have implied that it has been increased/removed.

Yup the cap is out of place, L4 agents were moved away from certain mission hubs / navigation lines adjusted interposing more systems between the old hubs and Jita.
In the past everyone that wanted to sell/buy something (no matter how small the quantity) went to Jita, now they'll just have to purchase from/sell to the local trader even if that inquires extra costs.

Well. Jita can hold up to 1400 pilots or so. At that point it will take up more players than it can address in worth of address space in it's RAM.
But it's running 64bit now. So it can take A LOT

Hey all - I just thought I would give a quick reply about how Jita's performance, from a server side perspective has been over the last few months.
As you may or may not know, we have had a pretty huge focus on server side performance over the last year, and the numbers of pilots you are seeing in Jita these days are a direct result of it.
At fanfest, we gave a talk on the Tranquility Servers (video is here). In it, one of the metrics we use to measure this is indeed Jita Local count.
In it, we compared the performance of Jita in November 07 with that of November 08. Feasibly, we were able to get around 600 pilots in Jita local in November 07 before we would start seeing a few issues with stuck players. With the hard work done on some low-level changes such as StacklessIO, EVE64 and some hardware improvements we were able to push this number to about 850 by November 08.
Shortly after that we deployed Quantum Rise, which contained a number of improvements made by our Need for Speed team. This pushed the number again from 850 to well over 1000. If memory serves me our current peak for Jita since Quantum Rise is 1158 players.
Work continues, and who knows where we will get to -- |

Just a very momentary delay sometimes. Nothing even close to what it used to be like.

Can you clarify this statement?
Do you mean that after about 1400 players, there is too much data for the available throughput? Or that there is not enough RAM to contain it? With 64bit, the limitation is 128 terabytes and while you may not be using truly "big iron", I presume the hardware has enough physical space for a crap load of RAM?
I know it may be considered too proprietary, but I really wish the Fanfest talk had contained more details besides "hamsters with huge heads and fast mouths". Numbers. Hardware. Etc. Or maybe I just need to do more digging around. :)

Check the "TQ Servers; Making Mountains out of Molehills" FanFest '08 video (the one Mindstar is talking about), it's a newer upload so you may have missed it. Hardware and number goodness.

that was before they upgraded to 16 GBs of ram!
remember they bought whole new blades for jita after the memory cap was reached!

The loads vs. performance have been impressive. I've spent the last week in Jita and have seen 1100+ in local, bobbed around a station for a couple of hours in awe over the traffic jams. All while checking contracts, prices, hitting all the markets with no noticable lag, aside from the occasional blip, it's been amazingly smooth. It's worth the trip, just to watch the massive blobs of noobs pouring out of station, my gawd... Let the noob bowling begin! |

I spent a little time in Jita recently. Only 800 or so in local when I showed up. Minor lag docking/undocking and viewing the market, but even less lag than I've had out in 0.0 with nobody else in local. ____________________

Edited by: Krystal Demishy on 30/11/2008 10:25:27 I would reccomend to not post things like these... We know about the great work CCP did to improve jita performances, but if anybody know how well it is know everybody will go back to jita again and even more people, so it will get to his max capacity and lag to death again. (and it's not for me, i don't care about jita, i never go there).

Exactly what I thought. Hmm, maybe we should go on a recruitment drive.. Directors get gifts too, right? RIGHT?

That so? Wonder why I started this thread then? Too bad the story is no longer in Market Discussion, otherwise we could speculate on my motives.
