QFT, even if you hadn't quit now, you would have quit in a months time when you first had your L4 mission ninja-salvaged, or when you tried going to lowsec and got ganked. I'm just glad you quit now rather than later so we don't have to put up with your whining.

Your post sums up quite nicely the reason why I have just come back to Eve after a two year absence (family and work on personal projects meant I did not have the time to play).
There is noting like eve any where else and thats what makes it so cool. Learn from the bad times, suck them up.. they make you stronger and smarter.

Thanks Johann Callasan, for the good explanation. I'm here about 2 weeks now. The same thing happened to me after a week. I also joined a corp of a friend. Lost almost everything when I was traveling to them. And I was mad!
I left the corps, stayed in my own save area, got back to my agent, did the missions and lost about 8 ships. Everytime I lost a ship, it cost me a lot of money (hail to ensure ships) and cost me about 2 hours to get my new ship load up. But I did learn from it.
This weekend, I changed to lvl 2 agents (thanks guys, who give me the good advice in a different post) and I lost my cruiser on the first mission, rofl Now I know there is a different between lvl 1 and lvl 2 trash/leaders/pirates, hehe But I'n doing fine now. I can handle the lvl 2 guys. Pule small groups using my new afterburner, until I get to the real leader. Then it is easy to get him. It's great fun. Still training for my battle cruiser, so by the time my trainings are good, I can buy the battle cruiser (I think).
DOn't give up jet. try to follow the advice of Johann Callasan. It's short, but it is how things work here. I hope you get the same fun as I have.

Why didn't you make use of the trial period, then it wouldn't have cost you anything?.
What has happened to you is part and parcel of what EVE is, and will always be. My first move to low-sec had me need new pants, heh, and a new ship. But that didn't deter me, it made me want to discover more, and find out how to do things properly and minimize risk.
I have recently moved down to 0.0, and yet again need new pants, still have my original ship/s, for now. I wouldn't say hurry down to 0.0, spend your time in empire and low-sec, and if you urge grabs you, and you feel you are ready, 0.0 is waiting.
But, then I think I'm wasting my time on this one, 1 week is nowhere near enough time to experience EVE. I have been here 6 months, and still have tons to learn.

Quote: I've experienced having my stuff stolen that I guess you call can tipping a few times...
Can flipping. And yeah, that can only happen if you jetcanmine. You risk getting it stolen if you do that, your reward if it doesn't get stolen is higher income. No risks, no gains. And with risks comes the possibility of total failure.

Don't leave the NPC corp if you don't want to be wardecced.

There are plenty of safeguards in place you can use if you want. You used none. So... yeah.

No money back, and yes there are PLENTY of places a n00b can play almost completely safe. You just have to learn what is safe and what isn't.

There's two sides to this whole thing;
1) people not used to (or willing) to put in effort to learn before doing, and not realising that this is NOT WOW meaning you can't just do stuff, make a mistake and not get punished for it.
2) others (corpies, friends) not capable or willing to explain a few basics to new players helping them to avoid nasty mistakes.

Hey there,
Now that youÆve experienced some of the worse possible situation in EVE, perhaps you are ready to experience the best part of the game. EVE is indeed a world where anything can happen when I say anything I mean, you can get a faction npc in your tutorial mission and make 80 million the first day you arrive in the game or you can get raged by a pirate.
Sadly, you joined a corp that ended up in a warà This doesnÆt mean youÆll end up in that same situation in another corp. You should log back on and just carefully think about what kind of future you wish to have in EVE. Look at the possibilities and ask questions. I would even suggest that you apply to join EVE university and get to know how to handle yourself out there. ThereÆs a lot of corp that would probably take you in and show you around while offering a certain level of security but keep in mind that no matter where you are, thereÆs always a risk. I understand that youÆre currently pretty damn mad at the situation but you would be surprise at how this game is actually interesting even for a new player. What you need to learn is how to protect yourself for now and later on, youÆll have the guns to fight back. Trust me, you donÆt need to be 5 years old to defeat an advance pilot. All you need is patience, the proper knowledge and some guts.
To all the folks that had a hard newbie experience, if you wish to ensure your survival, feel free to ask questions. YouÆll get a bunch of silly replies but in the end, someone will take the time to help you out.

It would appear that you did not read about the game at all before starting.
If you can't be bothered to at least read a little bit about what the game entails, then you deserve everything you get.
I still consider myself a newbie even though I have been playing for over a year. To be honest, I spent at least a week reading about EVE before I decided to give it a go.
As such, I knew EVE was a harsh universe, and was well prepared for it. I did missions till I had a cruiser and was doing L2/3 missions with a friend, only then did I go to have my first taste of pvp. We both jumped into a couple of T1 fit frigates, and went to lowsec.
I returned in a pod, my friend returned to the clone bay, but it was a lot of fun.
High sec is set up to be safe as long as you are not a fool. Losing so much when you are in highsec is your own fault. No one elses.
The only bit I can sympathise with is the can-flipping, BUT only if it happened in a starter system (last I heard, can-baiting/flipping is not allowed in newbie-start systems).

No greifing a newb or any other player is not acceptable in this game, BUT you need to learn the difference between griefing and game mechanics, Certain game mechanics allows for High Sec pirating such as Can Flipping which is easily avoided if you don't jet can mine or simply use secure containers, Falling for can flipping and any other form of high sec piracy can only be blamed on one thing, which is your own stupidity. High sec pirates lives off other people's stupidity.
The only area which these mechanics are considered griefing and frowned upon by the gms is in each of the schools starting system for each race other than those systems it's fair game anywhere else. The best advice is pay attention no matter what you are doing, if mining and jet canning if your can is yellow do not touch, if the wreck is yellow do not loot and so on. Yellow means it now belongs to someone else, so taking your ore or loot is and will always be considered stealing which makes you flashy red and a suitable target i for one will have no quam ransoming or blowing you up whenever possible. :P

I'm just over a month in and I love this game. You learn to be careful. I don't even try going through low sec anymore. At least for now. I Lost a few ships when I started because of auto pilot and the setting for safe travel. It was my own fault.
Secondly, if you want to can mine be prepared to have someone steal it. It hasnt ever happend to me since I mine in High sec but I know if I see someone pull my can its gone. Don't bother its only an hour lost.
Just chiming in.

Hey, if you're still playing EvE, train up your salvaging skill to 3 and convo me ingame. I'll take you on a few L4 salvaging runs. You'll get your Isk back in no time
On a bad day I don't make a single Isk. However on a good day overall, I'll haul in anywhere from 20 to 30 million Isk. Chump change to veteran players, but that's nothing to laugh at for newbies. ___________________________________________________ The Escapist: EvE Online video review. |

I think the problem of most of rookies is they cant wait to explore Eve-Universe. They are to impatient and there is no will to learn even the small and essential things step by step. To the OP
I dont blame you for letting off some steam - we have all been there and most of us have many T-Shirts.
If you are the sort of person that likes a challenge and will use these sort of experiences to get stronger - in a few months you will be laughing about this loss -
You will find yourself spending more than you lost here just to save you the time from jumping a few systems to get better prices.
One way to stay completely safe - is to begin a trading career!!

Hi there,
As other people have said, EVE is an incredibly harsh game. That being said, it does sound like you've had a rough time of it.
I am slightly biased, but you should consider joining EVE uni - we are a corp dedicated to helping new players get into the game. Unfortunately we are at war at the moment so not recruiting, but we provide free ships to fight in so there is no loss to you if we do get wardecced while you're a member.

@ OP,
This game is not for the simple minded, and it has a large learning curve. Just because you got ganked and flipped in the first week due to your lack of understanding of game mechanics does NOT make this a bad game. It makes you a sore loser and a person who should be playing world of warcraft.
Good bye, I'm happy to see you go! _____________________ *warp drive acti...wait, where are we going?*

I've done some very stupid and costly things in this game, and realized it's not noob friendly the hard way. So what, as long as you keep a close eye on your money and on every transaction, and as long as you don't risk anything that you can't comfortably afford to lose, you'll be alright.
