Originally by: Benco97 I'm British. I was born in Sheffield and then moved to Caerfyrddin and I love my country.. but it is broken. It is not just the education systems we have, there is something else wrong, we are raising idiot children who don't WANT to learn. If they aren't willing to learn then all the tutoring in the world won't pay off in the end. We are raising "junk" generations, simple human cattle who question nothing yet at the same time rebel against all visible aspects of authority. What can be done to solve this? Who knows, how can you save someone who doesn't want to be saved? All these idiots are piling up, breeding and sinking our country.
However, If you think that what I just said isn't also true of OTHER countries then you're sadly mistaken and probably just looking for something to rebel against yourself. It's the global media that is dumbing us down, every country is starting to see a rise in these useless people and nobody has a solution for it, you CANNOT teach those who do not wish to learn, who believe that the world owes them, who believe that compensation is a right they should exercise at every opportunity.
It depresses me to see our country going this way and it depresses me further to see that it's not JUST our country. We cannot be free of these idiots now, it's too late, idiocy begets idiocy I'm afraid so we must find a harsh solution to this problem or none at all.
you will find that the Asian and Japanese culture is obsessed with intellectual pursuits.
they have built a culture around this and its finally paying off,

Well, at some point the jobs these people do are going to be taken over by robots. Then we just need to make sure that they aren't too much of a drain on any benefits system (I would say "let the rot" but I need to give the impression that I am at least a somewhat decent person"). Incidentally, I think the benefits system is broken and contributes to the laziness and unwillingness to improve that has been discussed here.

I couldn't agree more with you on this, the systems in place right now are sheer lunacy for an industrial country.

something is been done, BBC have been running a program by Jame`s may, and they have also been making positive remarks about geeks,
Intelligence is genetic and you have a large number of girls sleeping and get pregnant at young age with idiots. then you can see how bad this is going to get. -------------------------------------------

Is intelligence genetic?
My dad was a steel erecter he's good with his hands and had a lot of common sense but he wasn't academic. My mum was fairly bright but still only in certain areas. My brother and I both have an MSc and are fairly able when we apply ourselves.
As far as benefits go I grew up near where Benco did, Chesterfield. There was a kid the same age as my brother he left school with his feckless gf and they had 4 kids. Neither of them ever had a job so the council sent them to Disney Land for 3 weeks because they had never had a good holiday.
All 6 of them ought to be recycled.

The people we're talking about probably don't watch many BBC programs. But that's besides the point. The lack of coolness associated with intelligence has to be corrected by the people that those who aren't intelligent find cool and thus respect. Further, we need to try and move the concepts of cool and the concepts of good away from each other. As it is it seems to be that they are synonyms for each other amongst many, many people. Worrying if cool is stupid.
And while intelligence is genetic, I wouldn't say that many of these people are naturally stupid. I have been "friends" with a few people that under usual circumstances I would avoid. However, take them out of a peer group that sees stupid as good, and place them in a peer group that sees stupid as bad and they do show noticeable changes a lot of the time. They had intelligence that was untapped because they didn't feel it was right to use and develop that intelligence. Would they have ended up as Oxford graduate? Probably not, but they certainly could have been better than they were.

Geeks contain high amount of genetic material that increases intelligence but makes them socially inapt.
How ever what could be done, its to make people aware and make them realize thats things need to be sorted. something has to be done. this is a small ball of a problem that is going to start getting bigger. -------------------------------------------

I'm not so sure about it all being down to genetics, obviously a certain degree of mental development must be achieved to enable learning but I feel that the majority of the blame should fall on the influences present during a child's formative years. Stupid parents can teach stupidity but they don't necessarily pass it on directly.
I'm not discounting genetic influences entirely of course but if we were to trade two newborn children, one from parents with degrees and other such qualifications including many years of experience and the other child from parents who left school early, don't have jobs and inexperienced then I think we'd find the children adopting feature from their adoptive parents as opposed to their genetic ones.

Aye, trying to explain how you are "cool" because you are a studious academic is nigh on impossible. In the end of the day my accent apparently comes out as upper class, even though I am lower middle class.
Given what happened to my family we live partly on benefits, so I have to be thankful that the system exists otherwise I would likely be dropping out my last year of school to get a dead end job to help support my siblings. It's the rampant abuse of the system that I despise. My view is that I take some money out the pot now, but in a few years I will be putting more in than I took out and doing so for a long time, as the system was meant to work... Irrelevant of any information presented in those links the fact remains, introduce a child from "Stupid" parents into a situation where where intelligence is promoted and you will almost certainly get a smart child, discounting external influences such as disability or illness of course.

thats not technically true, i know some very intelligent parents who's offspring is rather brain dead, and become obsessed with other things. and has little to no respect for them selfs or others. and these are good parents.
Intelligence is genetic and it can skip generations.

On a somewhat related note, private school has lots of ******s in it too, who do you think makes up the balance sheet? My friend was telling me his school had lowered its standards twice while he was there for admission to 6th form, and has let people resit lower 6th because they failed it the first time .

Oh yes, no doubt. There were plenty of dodgy people going to the school I was at (a private school). But it's much, much better than the majority of state schools, and the education you get overall is better.

Actually I think that you don't have to be academic to be of value to society. There are people out there who aren't rocket scientists but can hold a decent conversation and have a fair amount of common sense.
It's the people with no discernible talent at all and they're ignorant with it. The problem is the dead weights that don't contribute anything to the world and are basically a drain on resources. They're growing in numbers. /start sig I love old characters that post 'I've beeen playing the game four years' when I know their account has been sold on. /end sig |
