Being a night owl at heart and flipping your sleeping schedule around. Happens every time I take time off.
It's 5 a.m. in the morning and I'm not even tired yet. I figured when eve went into downtime I'd go lay down but nothing happened damnit. Guess I'll be loading up on coffee now cause I got a few places to be once the suns up.

Sleep schedules are over rated.
As stated above bang your head against a wall a few times, listen to loud music, and drive with the windows down and no heat and you should be fine until you sit still Well enjoy the time off while you have it.
My work schedule is wacked and that is why I said what I said.
Mondays and Wednesdays 5:45 am - 2:15 pm Tuesdays and Thrusdays 11:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Fridays we alternate these two schedules. If we work on Saturday then we work the early shift on Friday and we work late Friday if we have Saturday off.
I call it a hybrid rotating swing shift.

Sounds familiar, when I have no day rythm I end up crashing into bed at 7am.

Yeah, I know what you mean... I'm a night owl who is lucky enough to have a night job. With only four shifts per week I have have plenty of time to readjust if needed so I can get stuff done on the weekends, and most other people I know who work nights do just that. And now that my job is kinda slow and the bosses decided we should take one extra day per week off (so ATM my week starts at 10pm Monday and ends 6am Thursday) it should be even easier and more worthwhile.
I can't do it, not just like that. Not for no particular reason anyway, there must be something important that needs doing to get me to go to sleep in the evening. Same problem during vacation, I either stick to my night shift rhythm or sleep whenever I feel like it, which usually means a six day week (28h day). ******ed, I know. *rimshot*
Getting one "normal" day is no problem - just stay up extra late (think 30h+ day) or get little to no sleep - but more than one or two? Only possible if I have a full schedule with virtually no time to myself, then I'll just stick to the schedule and drop off exhausted in the evening like I'm supposed to. Fun, etc.

I know what ya mean. This semester, my first class starts at 2pm. I was waking up at 7am for the first week or so, then 8am, then 9... last month of the semester now and I'm in bed until 1pm lol.
When I was in the navy, I had a pretty f'd up schedule. At sea, we were on an 18 hour day - 6 hours on watch, 6 hours work/freetime/batin', 6 hours sleep (hard to sneak to bed early because we have to share beds on subs). So one day I'd sleep from noon until 6pm, next day I'd sleep from 6am to noon, next day midnight to 6am, etc. Then we'd pull in to port for anywhere between 1-7 days, where we'd work for 10 hour days. But every 3 days in port, we would have to stay on the boat overnight (usually not sleeping for more than 2-3 hours). Then we'd go back out to sea and start the sleep deprivation torture all over again.
And try sleeping when you can hear 5 guys fappin' and the only thing separating you is a couple thin blue curtains.

Welp, it's about 12:30 now and my external chores are completed. At this point I've decided to stay awake and aim for 7pm at least which may be a major boost in fixing my sleeping schedule by the time I go back to work next week. Coffee has been my friend for the last 2 hours.

I've got a coworker who used to do the sub routine, I've heard the stories of having to hotbunk it. One of the things he told me was that the crewmembers would shave their eyebrows and marker in new ones each day to show their mood.

Edited by: Brisco County on 01/12/2008 20:00:50 I don't know about the sharpee eyebrows thing. But I did see a guy wearing a bikini made out of red duct tape and a red-dyed mop head as a wig. It was during halloween, the guy was trying to look like Lilu from 5th Element. It was like this but without the hotpants. And with tasticles hanging out the side.

Have you tried alcohol? I've had great success with it. Particularly gin, vodka, rum and bourbon. YMMV.

I have to go to bed when the sun comes up or I melt Hate the summer months when daylight hours are from 3am to 10pm but love the 4pm to 8am nights of winter.
<--- Night worker anyway so I've got used to being awake all night and asleep all day. My only annoyance is my days off when I have to brave the daylight to go shopping. When the sun occasionally shines in the UK, I have to walk around with my eyes almost shut to stop my eyes hurting from the bright light (that's being serious, the light does hurt my eyes but my night vision is superb compared to most people).
-- There's a simple difference between kinky and perverted. Kinky is using a feather to get her in the mood. Perverted is using the whole chicken. All this has happened before and will happen again |
