Originally by: Max Quirk So, what does this mean for subscription subscribers? I don't deal with ISK or ETC traders, but is my credit card safe? Hearing this makes me consider unsubscribing...
It's safe. When people say 'hacked' they usually mean either:
* They shared their login details with someone else. * They got careless and let someone else watch them while logging in. * They logged in on a public/shared computer (Never log in on a computer if you aren't the person responsible for administration). * They used a weak password. * They allowed their computer to become infected by a keylogger.
The chances of anyone actually suffering because CCP's or their subscription company's computers were compromised is very small.
Basically - the balance of probability is that the user screwed up. C'est la vie. CCP don't have to reimburse people for their own carelessness or stupidity -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

Or running Windows as a limited user. That's the main reason I moved to Vista. UAC makes it less painful by letting me activate administrative privileges only as/when I need them.
As for the 'Don't log in..' comment. It was actually meant to be general advice but isn't a hard and fast rule. You have to decide how much you trust the application being used to log on and how valuable the target domain is. In some work environments that trust can be quite high. For a public machine it should be zero if not lower -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

My question is; When did they start banning accounts that were the victim of a nasty hack. And how long will it take for them to even respond to a petition to get them unbanned? It's been 40 hours now since my main account was banned for being a victim of an account hack and i have not received so much as an automated response to my petitions.
Good form CCP. good form.

I just dont understand why CCP banned my account, which was a victim of the account hacks, in the first place. Now its taking forever to hear back on a petition to un-ban my account. I've already changed all my passwords and scanned all my computers and came up clean.
They ban hacked account because they want to investigate ISK and item movements. And other logs. I was hacked years back. I still don't know how it happen. But anyhoo I was banned for 11 days and got reimbursed on both game time and all ingame items and ISK.
So, don't worry.
Ohh forgot, it probably was a script hidden on some IGB link. So don't click everything with IGB because it is using your OWN connection. It's totally possible to send backdoor keylogger or something like that to your own computer via IGB.

That would be quite an achievement - the IGB doesn't support javascript (let alone activex).
The only way to get information from you via the IGB is to have a forum and you actively put in your account info (possibly tricked by some well done page that looks like it needs your eve account data for something). The site server also gets a lot of information when you trust a site - but that's only character related (your chars name, where you are, your roles in corp, etc...).
Unless somebody found an ingenious exploit in the IGB and EVE client that ultimately leads to acces to your computer or at least account info - very very unlikely. --- Save the forum: Think before you post. ISK BUYER = LOOSER EVE TV- Bring it back!

Good form CCP. good form.
When a account/character ownership is disputed the first thing CCP do is to ban them to avoid any further damage.

I have not done anything with an ISK seller.
All I've done is purchased a char with the normal route under the EULA rules from the Character Bazarr forum.
My account was hacked:
The only thing I've done on this acct out of the normal is to do purchase a character in this forum under the rules and have it transferred onto my account from a guy named vedmed
That's the only time I've given out which to.
On December 8 the following transactions transpired which were not done by me: http://go-dl1.eve-files.com/media/0812/Glennda_Transactions.gif http://go-dl1.eve-files.com/media/0812/ToxicBlood_Transactions.gif
I think the sum loss is about 900 million isk.
Any information on what I do besides file a petition (no category for account hacked) and make sure it does not happen to anyone else would be appreciated.
I've changed my password and atleast my char still has skillpoints etc.
Thank you for your bug report. Your report ID is 66855
Your petition has been submitted, the petition tracking id is 1308603.

Really? Check again? Next time dont say it does not happen, true it is hard to do but there will always be a little glitch somewhere that could have the potential to give unexpected and unwanted access, no product is perfect.

GM Grimmi, will I get any response from CCP or am I just out of luck on my 900 Million?

I'd like to query another possible security risk I've not had chance to check with a 3rd party - Secure Cans
I know this sounds stupid, but I dropped a Secure can with a password on it for an alt to pick up, and they were able to retrieve the password successfully.
Would this happen if someone (Example, PC Rat) blew you up, and managed to pick up a can you were carrying? If they get it, then take it home and "recover password", will this give them the password you used?
If so, and people are using say their EVE Password for these cans, this would be a risk, right?

Well yeah, basic common sense of course, I personally generate a new unique password for each and every thing I use, but I was wondering about the less security-aware people, the ones with -5 common sense.
Is this something that people should be warned about, as I've not tried this with another player that's not on my account, so I can't vouch to see if it's something linked to my account, even on alts ( like it 'knowing' you're skilltraining on another 'toon, even on an alt )
