I was in the help channel and ISD overtly plugged 0.0 corps and life as the best way to play EVE. I will not name names or anything.
I find this reprehensible as well as the fact that a noted nul sec player who had effectively taken over Help Chat for the last week has been doing the same.
If I find one more instance of this I will report all involved and post to the extent that they can ban me for life.

Im guessing the player has an issue with an individual who is supposed to be answering questions is actively (or so he says) encouraging individuals to go to 0.0 as opposed to just answering questions in the help channel.
That or I completely missed the point. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

Well, if people are asking, like, "How do I load missiles into a launcher?" and he says go to 0.0, yeah, but if he's saying 0.0 is fun, so what? It is.

I had hoped that at least someone from one of the infamous "nul corps" would have responded. I feel ignored. But thanks for the attention.

Nothing wrong with encouraging people to go out there.
Its better they form their own opinions on EVE lifestyles than having everybody tell them what to think.

Perhaps that ISD member really enjoys 0.0 and wants others to have the fun they have? I don't take part in it much myself (not a fan of the drama or blobs), but it does offer more than empire imo.
You just have to be willing to deal with the politics/drama and large fights. I'm not really sure what you're thinking of reporting though. I'd love to see the chatlogs of this though so I'd know wth you're so mad about. Evemail works, send in bulk if need be. Will refund you the CSPA charges if it matters to you.

The problem comes in when these "0.0 is the only way" people end up trolling endlessly, giving advice and answers that are correct for extreme veterans yet dangerous and outlandish for new players, the very paying customers that are asking for help.
Yesterday Help Channel was essentially broken for almost an hour while one particular 0.0 player spammed endlessly about how that's the only way to play and other players tried to reason with him, or argue with him, resulting in a total lack of actual help for players. Sure there's two ways of playing the game, but those people in the Help channel more often than not are new players and aren't looking for the 0.0 experience and cannot simply "get a new ship in 30 minutes" like a vet player can. These trolls however aren't there to help, they are there to disrupt and spam under the guise of "helping".
Minimus might be a carebear, and there's nothing wrong with that, but he's got a good point about the amount of trolling that's being allowed in Help Channel these days. I'm not saying the STAR member was wrong to give his own views, they are players too, but as STAR their job is there to moderate the channel and quite simply they haven't been going all that good a job of it with a few exceptions. When potential customers are told to go to 0.0 and lose their ships because it's fun, without having full knowledge of the dangers, skills and experiences of 0.0, that's more often than not going to result in a lost customer rather than a happy pilot and that can only hurt EVE. |

Just to clearify some points here: STAR as any other group in ISD are volunteers. By the very definition of that, we do not man the channels in shift-like schedules. We go there in our free time whenever we find that. It is quite possible that sometimes there are multiple STAR members present while at other times none is available. We are not the channel police and merley there to moderate the channels all day long but out there to give advise while still keeping an eye on the channels from time to time. If the channel is abused and noone form STAR is available at the moment, petition to the GM's who, unlike us, are there for you 24/7 and can either step in themselves or try to reach one of us to handle the situation.
As for the comment in question, after checking the logs, I see nothing but the volunteer stating 0.0 as a potential option amongst others, therefore encouraging the diversity of gameplay instead of forcing everyone on a certain road which in my humble opinion is much more worth in helping and giving advises when asked for than canned answers and predefined responses and something I will encourage amongst my STAR members for as long as I am in charge.

If you have a problem with the Help channels you can file a petition, volunteers come from all aspects of Eve and will naturally know more about their preferred area. If you wish to ask them about empire mission running and mining you can ask the volunteer and they will answer your questions on that subject. It is the help channel and if you wish to offer advice on the Empire aspect of the game feel free, as long as you act within the rules of the channel.
But I don't think the direction of the thread is going anywhere good so I will lock it, if you have any other problems with the help channel please send us a petition. |
