Was playing around in EFT this morning with Geddon fits (as my Geddons been sitting at the back of my hangar for ages), and came up with the following fit for L4 missions:
High: 7 x Mega Modulated Pulse Laser Beam, 1 x Heavy NOS Mid: 1 x 100MN AB II, 2 x Cap Recharger II Low: 1 x LAR II, 3 x Hardeners, 1 x DC II, 2 x Heat Sink II, 1 x CPR II Rigs: 3 x CCC Drones: 5 x Heavy T2 (or 4 Heavies and 5 Lights)
NOTE: I *DO NOT* have access to T2 guns yet - so have to stick to best named T1.
With my current skills EFT says its doing about 900dps @ 20km, can field a 450dps tank against specific non-Angel rat factions, and is cap stable with the AB switched off (relies on NOS for 100% cap stability).
HOWEVER this setup comes up about 500PG short. I already have Engineering V and AWU V, and cant currently think of anything else that would get me the extra PG except expensive implants. Of course I could drop down to using Dual Pulse Lasers - but would REALLY like to get this setup working.
Can anyone suggest any workable alternatives to squeeze out additional PG using items of the same category as those already installed?
Non-negotiable: Presence of AB - need it to catch distant targets. Enough tank to solo L4s. As close to cap stable as possible.
Thanks for any ideas!

Use some faction items like ssLAR etc will save you grid. Also youmight want to drop 1 ccc for an ancillary orsomething.
However the real answer is to use an Apoc. Apoc is for the missions Arguably my opinions represent to an extent the opinions of my alliance and in particular circumstances give rise to a valid "casus belli" claim. |

its true, the apoc or a cap booster abaddon will be far faster and easyer. The apoc can hit to 60km wiht long range crystals in pulses, which in turn use less cap than beams minus the rof dmg saving more cap and all while starting with more grid and cap in the first place.
or drop your nos from the geddon.

Apoc:
8 mega modulated pulse
100mn ab 2 3 cap rechargers
1 larg armor rep II or faction/deadspace if u can afford 3 hardners to suit rats 3 heatsink II
2 ccc 1 energy locus coordinator
mix of heavy/med/light drones to use up ur bandwidth
it mows down rats, u got ur speed, and plenty of cap hell maybe drop a ccc for a aux nano pump.

Sorry I wasnt being clear enough - I *have* both an Apoc and Abbadon.
What I want is a comedy semi-gank Geddon fit to occasionally take out on missions to make things a bit more challenging. Running missions in my 120km range Dual-Rep Megabeam Apoc gets boring after a while, with the Abaddon being slightly more involving to fly, but hardly challenging
My plan: Comedy Gank-Geddon for rats with specific resists (e.g. Sansha), Abaddon for harder non-Angel missions, and Apoc for Angels or sniping missions.

to just answer your question.
change your cpr II for a power diagnostic unit II this will give more powergrid and still have the cap recharge and cap bonus. cpr II gives a bigger boost to cap then the pdu II but with the pdu you get the powergrid bonus you need. With this change you can keep the rest of the fitting the same.

I did try this in EFT but have a feeling I may have accidentally discarded it as none-cap stable because I left the AB running! Will try this tonight, as I am only short of about 2.5% PG, and the PDU II will give me 5% extra.
May end up being not quite cap stable - but with 900dps I doubt I will be firing for more than a couple of minutes at a time anyway!
Many thanks!

Named AB would save you over 50 PG.

Ewwww. Mixing guns on the same ship. Unclean! Unclean!
I have done this in the past (before AWU V) but was keen to keep my dps maxed and find the PG elsewhere.

Dont teach father how to make kids tbh. Im mixing guns on my "gank" setup and it works perfectly fine. If it allows me to fit heavy neut for loss of 20-30 dps - i will always go for it.
Its exactly same as gangmod absolution (needs to drop 2 or 3 hvy pulses to focused), navy omen, gank harbinger, astarte, deimos, hyperion, mega... owait - seems most of the "high end" setups mix guns.

Yes, named ab, or dropping a hs or the cpr for a pds would do it. Alternately you could go with Dual Heavy Beams. No fitting problems with those, and you can still do enough dps for the right missions.

Indeed, the Apocalypse is, IMHO, one of the best PvE ships in the game, the best against Sanshas/Blood Raiders. Here's one setup you can work towards to (Costs about 75mill).
8x Mega Pulse II 100mn Afterburner II 2x Cap Recharger 'Eutectic' Cap Recharger 2x Large Armor Repairer II 3x N-Type Armor Hardener 'Beta Reactor' Capacitor Power Relay Heat Sink II 3x CCC
Some speed, medium range, good dps, very nice tank, can run every module permanently.
IMHO, the 'geddon is more a cheap but effective pvp ship

The geddon has a weak tank for L4, and it has no range bonus, so fitting it with T1/named pulse lasers will make you struggle quite a bit with range.
Using radio/microwaves to compensate for teh lack of range will gimp your damage.
Get an Apoc for the missions.
Until you get T2 Mega Pulses, just use named beams on the apoc.
You get high enough range with the beams to hit anything, and you can fit it with multifreq's to increase your dps quite alot in most situations.
Some ships, especially the Nightmare ships in sansha missions, prefer to stay at 35-40km and your pulse-fitted geddon won't be able to reach them with any decent DPS.
Apoc, named beams, Cap recharges, 4 active hardeners, LAR, stuff.
Works great for missions.
As someone said, the Geddon is more of a PvP ship than anything.
Tank > Gank in missions, at least before you get access to T2 guns. -------------------------------------------------- "Every complex problem has a solution which is easy, neat and wrong!" |
