I'm confused
How come players are allowed to advertise on this "New Citizens Q&A" forum with their annoying "21-day trial + ISK if you upgrade offer"??
It's advertising and a way for these people to earn loads of ISK, possibly even as an attempt to scam. If scam attempts was posted in ANY other section on the forum (probably apart from the trade forum) it would be locked as soon as moderator sees it.
I find it inappropriate, and I'm surprised moderators has taken no action against these numerous threads popping up
Also, when I mouse-over the link to this part of the forum, I see following message:
Quote: Info New to EVE? Use this forum to ask, or answer, questions about the game.
Please explain how the adverts fits in this category

Just hit the 'report' flag and ask that it be moved to the appropriate forum.

I doubt that, you might want to look at Market Discussion, 90% of the threads are scams. |

When ccp started offering plex as a buddy invite reward option they opened the door for the buuddy system to be abused way too easily. I agree that this forum needs to be for perople that are trying to help new players. Not people out to help themselves under the guise of helping the new members |

Scams may be a way of life in Eve, but just like can flipping/baiting in the 12 newbie systems, they have no place in here.
You're not seeing scams anyway. What's happening is that existing players can get a PLEX (sells for 380mill or so) when a buddy trial signs up. They give 250mill to new subscriber and keep 130 themselves.
Adverts are likewise probably not a good idea in here but thats down to CCP staff. |

Personally I don't care if it's a scam or not but it IS advertising a service, which shouldn't be allowed in this forum section. |

Whether it's a scam or not isn't the point. It's the advertising I object.
Also, I disagree. I believe New Citizens category is to the forums what the Help channel is to the ingame experience. The help channel has pretty clear rules against advertising because it's supposed to be a friendly enviroment dedicated to providing and recieveing assistance, where players can participate without being covered in adverts and recruitment drives
I do not see the sense in not having similar rules apply here, where the basic principles are ought to be the same

I have done that already Nothing happens...
That's why I'm asking why forum moderators are allowing this.

Yup, same. I guess we'll have to post a whole lot of services for isk on this newbie forum (aimed at newbies, mind you). Lets see if those get to stay as well. |

Since you guys are discussing this I thought it prudent to step in and give some insight as to why we are changing the way buddy invite threads work.
Firstly, we have a new sticky at the top of the forum which you can see here that is designed to keep all of these thread sin one location. many people see this as advertising, and I suppose that is true, but on the flip side it is an opportunity for a new player to get a leg up early on and allow them to absorb a few loses here and there while they explore EVE, make mistakes and learn from them.
As to why the thread is not stickied in Sell Orders, well this is the most suitable areas for new players to visit and be informed of the offers. |

I do smell the whiff of "double standard" here, how about allowing EVE-Uni to advertise in this forum section as they are focussed on helping newbies as well. Or perhaps Estel Arador's JC service? Can any other corps/initiatives/services aimed at new players (while not being a scam) be advertised there as well? Will you make a special sticky for those?
I guess at the very least you now channelled all this nonsense into one thread and put the "if you scam with this we'll kick your dog" on it. Still; double standards.
More importantly; it should be in the trial account forum section :) |

How about that is a double standard and should never be allowed. Certain corps are no better than the rest of us.

If you read between the lines you'll find I ask the same question :)
Reality is ofcourse that from higher up it's decided that the buddy system is "awesome" and thus should be forced upon people, it's not like Navigator has a choice.

Thank you navigator. Exchanging a buddy invite for mentoring is a great idea, but not worthy of the spam we've been seeing. Keeping the posts into a single thread keeps things simple. The only issue is that the thread will have to be maintained in order to make sure that new players know who is still "in business" and who is not. |
