EVE Online: Quantum Rise 1.0.3 will be deployed this Wednesday, 10th December 2008. Tranquility will be down from 11:00 GMT to 15:40 GMT for this patch deployment.
Quantum Rise 1.0.3 focuses mainly on dramatic improvements in our Need for Speed initiative which will result in substantial improvements for large scale fleet battles, small gang warfare and large populations in trade or mission hubs. This patch enhances the client in many ways allowing for a much smoother game play experience for everyone.
Patch Notes are available; updates to the notes may be added should any further items be cleared through the Quality Assurance process. These updates will be highlighted with green text.

Fantastic patch coming it sounds!
The removing camera shake when warping is brilliant, very annoying that is!
I already noticed between a year ago and today that the stutter you get on warp in is much much less in quantum rise, but to get rid of it completely would be ace! so hope that makes it into one of the future patches. Pilots of Honour Axiom Empire |

Wow, this patch sounds like it will reduce the biggest problem in EvE...lag. Kazzoo, have you ever been tried to hold 0.0 space? It is controlled via fleet/pos warfare, which is laggy atm. Being negative about something that you apparently know nothing about is silly. This patch is exactly what we need. Thanks CCP!

I'm sorry, it appears only positive feedback is appreciated. This patch doesn't help me enjoy the game more. Adding more research slots and reducing the need for players to hangout in hubs would. Considering the outstanding effort CCP has put into its new advertising campaign, a gift for the newer players would have been nice.

Edited by: Razin on 08/12/2008 17:07:13 I tried the changes on SISI and the FPS improvements are awesome before even applying the new graphics options! This patch is like an early Christmas present!
The drone/turret model disabling relationship is slightly confusing. The patch notes say "When drone models are set to disabled then the turrets are automatically also set to disabled." Does this mean that the turret models are never rendered (even when firing) if the drone model rendering is disabled in the graphic options?
P.S. Took around 20 clicks to post this. ...

Ok let me get this straight, your customers ask for a goodie for christmas (like the snowballs a bit back) and you give them .... a patch that u needed to throw in anyway cause the server and client cannot keep up with the current fleet fights?
no offence, nice stuff in the patch, but don¦t try to sell us a (bug) fixing patch as a super nice extra goodie ... it¦s a patch that u needed to do anyway, so where is the "extra"?

The deployment date for this patch is "a super nice extra goodie" since CCP could have kept on tweaking it 'till after new year's. The FPS performance increase from gui changes is super nice on it's own, but add on top of that the ability to turn off the shaking during warp, and the other great stuff, and you've got absolutely nothing to be indignant about. ...

Of course this patch does not target every player in New Eden. Still, it means a lot to people who have experienced THE lag : I'm talking about sipping coffee for 30-60 minutes in front of a black screen for reaching the other side of a jump gate (and finally discovering that you've been podkilled for over 30 minutes). And the people who've experienced the lag are the people who make History in EvE.
Thanks, CCP! going in the right direction!
BTW... question for CCP : this is all nice on the client side. Do you have any idea if it will also relieve the server and reduce the occurrences of rollbacks and node crashes?

if there was a line saying
Ghost training as been reactived then yes is was the best gift however I guess you fixt some overdue bugs that where there like a year or so..
Lets now wait for the epic Laser nerve or lets wait for a other feature to get called a bug or wait until the delete a whole race for being a Bug ... Yes I know people need to learn to handle it however with the big speed nerve and the uselessness of inty's now<wil get shot down by a drake with meduim missiles without painter> or the remove of the handy ghost training >what is the reason why i was playing eve in the first place> but No......
I liked Eve the way it was more then how it is now.. Eve went downhill rather fast and that a same for the game as it don't deserve it at all as its a awsome game. And i know my english is bad but now ccp Can read it >and delete it 10 seconds Or less I guess.
Sure some features are awsome sure the new weapon grouping is handy but Somethings you did just makes Eve a boring please to be.. Not to start about the unblanced Races and stuff like that ^_^
So go ahead and flame me what most people do I don't care as i never read the forums after a post mostly . So Good luck you eve players before a other Nerfe pack hits the game -___-

My snowballs have been melted for quite some time now. My launcher has no use. Any chance sometime in the future for some future Christmas/Halloween/Easter/Khanza/ - w/e we could get a similar type gift? Possibly little hamsters with their very own cages for ambulation? Something to do with these Snowball launchers & "melted" snowballs?
Thank you for the performance patch. You've promised the same thing in the past and fell through, so I am sure we will all have fun testing the technobabble breakthrough this coming weekend.

well i simply expect that a company that is running a normal business is fixing stuff, in CCP¦s case they fix bugs and optimize the performance of the client and the servers that we pay for.
if you think it¦s an extra that your new bought TV is able to display the daily tv programm is not my fault, i simply cannot see where the extra is in this.
And your point that they give us the patch before christmas and not in the new year ... we pay for this service, so i expect to get bug fixes when they are finished, so this one is finished and they did their job or got it done in a hurry and will most likely mess something up, i realy hope it¦s the first option. That¦s nothing more or less than my boss asks me to do, there is simply no extra in this
Current GUI performance is not a bug; and my current graphical performance is completely acceptable (and I play at 1920x1200 AAx4+HDR). The shaking during warp is also not a bug. Like I said, they could have delayed for various reasons, and I am very glad they didn't as I plan to spend a lot of time in EVE over the holidays.
I still don't understand what you are complaining about? Is it that a CCP developer expresses pride in work that resulted in such a huge increase in client performance? What is it? ...

you still don¦t get it that it is their job to do that stuff do you? it¦s their job to work on a better performance it¦s their job to get a patch out for obvious problems with the server and client (and GUI performance maybe is no bug, but still something that needs to be optimized as quote before)
and when as an end result of your points there is only "we stop screen shaking during warp" left as a "christmas gift", then i simply think it¦s another pretty bad ccp joke.

I am simply saying there is nothing wrong with being impressed when someone does an especially good job. And if this happens sooner rather then later, it's a bonus/gift/goodie. Accomplishments like that usually involve dedication and extra long work hours. Surely that's something recognizable?
And, yes, the option to stop the shaking during warp is a gift all by itself. ...

I dont know if you've read the massive thread in the problems and issues forum but its revolves around ATI cards and gate fires. Fixing something like this is going to probably be long term or never i realise but could you provide people with an option to turn off gate effects. This would help us and potentially reduce lag in large fights at gates.

Thanks for the patch, let's hope that the memory leak I've been experiencing gets plugged for good this time.
One question: Turning off ShakyCamÖ disables all shaking at once, correct? So if I, for example, wanted to turn off the shakes from missile explosions but keep the shaking from warping at extreme speeds (13+ AU /sec) then I would be out of luck?
Also...

Tis true, getting bugs fixed is not a gift.
However, I do find a massive performance improving patch which required long hours to get to us before the holidays something of a treat. Wasn't something they had to do, especially in such a short time frame.
CCP, your efforts are appreciated by the vast majority of your subscribers.
However, if you are looking for little extras to throw our way that are lag related could you please, please come up with a different effect for anchorable warp bubbles. They do induce lag, and more importantly, seizures. I come away with weary eyes and a throbbing headache every time I have to spend any serious time in close proximity to one. Replacing the strobe like flashiness with a slow gentle pulse would not go amiss I think. Just a thought.
Happy holidays to CCP and the EVE community.

As I understand it, the patch mainly consists of options to improve "performance" of the eve client. "Performance" in terms of frames per second and load time. However, may I suggest that there be an option to have the disable/enable process automatic instead of having to manually set it on or off.
An example of making the eve client's graphics engine more intuitive and having an "auto" option possible would be by having it monitor its own fps and grid loads so that it will automatically disable turret and drone models, and/or explosions when fps drops or grid loading delays. By giving the process automated options it would make the game balance itself between aesthetics and performance intelligently.
Big fleet fight = press esc, disable stuff Normal Play/ big fleet fight done = press esc, re-enable stuff for nice aesthetics
Make it automatic. If not in this patch then in the next one perhaps? Thanks CCP. |

I appreciate the client side fixes, really I do, good job on finding and squashing those bugs. Don't forget about giving us the ability to save our profiles (Graphics and overview), I know you mentioned that you are looking at that but now that there's more for us to disable errr "optimize" our client with, the ability to change our gaming profile gets more important. Also pretty please could you maybe throw in a Fix for the Stealth Bomber to make it worth using/losing again pretty please? And not a Stealth Bomber that fires lame Torpedoes (unless you give me like OVER 9000 shield) or cheaper Bombs that I can't use in lowsec.
PS Snowball Launchers and a good supply of snowballs would be nice too ---------------------------------------- Happiness is a Wet Pod

Good stuff, CCP!
Yay server *and* client side lag reductions!
Ridiculous degrees of client customization should be standard for all games, IMO. What I'm looking for now is an in-game AA option (yes I know there are ways around this) and the ability to chose *which* effects are on/off.

I would be very surprised if the EVE client code doesn't already utilize a custom pool allocator, which will usually outperform general purpose allocators like nedmalloc.
I would also be surprised if nedmalloc outperforms other new dlmalloc derivatives in single CPU environments.

Edited by: Darkeen on 09/12/2008 05:13:40 All these changes sound very good, but I use Vista on a Laptop with Nvidia 8600.
It would appear that I am not adversely affected but if you played with my rig then you'd see the LAG issues are pretty bad... Waiting to get out of stations or warping between gates and waiting for the "Entering System" message to come up for 2-3 minutes is simply a killer (especially for courier missions!). Waiting for the system to load graphics for the roids, ships, etc is pretty bad and you know its an memory issue...). I believe that Vista is affected by some of these issues too (I have Vista Home Basic so maybe it has a memory allocation Limit (Windows Error: "You have to upgrade your laptop to run Windows Vista Premium in ordr to run ccpeve.exe")
I'll reserve my right to troll until after the patch comes out and I can turn off some of these effects myself.
(Damn. Say when its due out. My skill was supposed to finish at 12:15 on Wednesday. So now I'll have to change skills to another long one before I finish this one!)

you still don¦t get it that it is their job to do that stuff do you? it¦s their job to work on a better performance it¦s their job to get a patch out for obvious problems with the server and client (and GUI performance maybe is no bug, but still something that needs to be optimized as quote before)
and when as an end result of your points there is only "we stop screen shaking during warp" left as a "christmas gift", then i simply think it¦s another pretty bad ccp joke.
don¦t get me wrong, i like this patch, all nice stuff in it, but the news announcement is simply a ****ing bad joke. there is nothing in it that could barely count as a gift/goodie.
heavens i completely agree this patch is very much expected and should continue to be ccp should always be working to fix an problems / bugs and get us better preformence. i do not consider this as a gift but i do very much appriciate it finally getting sorted. lets all hope it goes to plan. i wouldnt mind some SP's i lost as a christmas forgiveness present for not upgrading :P and i probs wouldnt of got popped if fleet battle preformance had already been satifactory :)

First off, I am not sure why I am seeing miners complaining about this new patch, lag exists pretty much across the board for everyone, and therefore, everyone across the board will benefit from it one way or another. As a christmas gift, it is actually quite logical in terms of giving a gift everyone can enjoy. However, as a business, CCP was sorta required to do this to make up for all the performance issues brought about by Quantum Nerf. Still though, CCP getting this fixed is a good thing either way you look at, and I am sure it did take alot of hard work, so in that sense, thank you CCP! The only bad part about quantum nerf was the missle nerf. Interceptors were WAY too fast and annoying, plus, now people have a good reason to get into an assualt ship or electronic attack. I can not forgive the missle nerf though, all the missle users in my corp are ticked off, me included. Besides all that, if CCP really really wanted to give all of Eve a gift they could honestly enjoy (and they wouldn't catch much crap over), here are a few suggestions...
1.) Get "walking in stations" to be a reality. 2.) Undo at least SOME of the missle nerf. 3.) Allow alliances the option to setup some form of logo like a corp can. Custom logos for both corps AND alliances, for a fee, isn't a bad thought either. 4.) Open up at least a part of jovian space, why have it on the map if we can't go there. 5.) REWARD positive sec status for killing obvious isk farmers in low sec. Go to the arzi system sometime and tell me that system isn't loaded with isk farmers.
Those are just a few constructive suggestions for future holidays, overall though, thanks for this new patch CCP, I hope it's deployment is swift and flawless. Merry Christmas! "There is no spoon." |

if you think it¦s an extra that your new bought TV is able to display the daily tv programm is not my fault, i simply cannot see where the extra is in this.
And your point that they give us the patch before christmas and not in the new year ... we pay for this service, so i expect to get bug fixes when they are finished, so this one is finished and they did their job or got it done in a hurry and will most likely mess something up, i realy hope it¦s the first option. maybe if we look back at all ur past fixes and call them presents we are infact paying for gifts which in turn presents a question why are we paying for a gift
Come on CCP spread that Xmas cheer and do summat - temporarily put a Xmas tree up in Jita and get the Devs to gather round it singing 'Rudolph the red nose reindeer' or summat anything just recognise its Xmas and do summat unusual or differant
suppose next time the council are repairing the road outside my house blocking the street and my driveway i should stop and think hey its a present i should be lucky :)

I've only been playing for 3 months, is this down time stuff a regular thing? I run 3 accounts so 24 hours down time is 72 hours I'm being short changed. Maybe I just picked a bad time to join eve.
As far as all the people complaing about nerfs(whatever that means), as a general rule you should never do business with anyone for more than 2 years. After 2 years a business will increase cost(price), while taking away services(features). UsSualy perferred to as "A better product". Translated that means lower quality for a higher price. Not saying this is what CCP is doing. But it's standard operating procedure in the U.S.

Originally by: WARTECH ASSASSIN As I understand it, the patch mainly consists of options to improve "performance" of the eve client.
Thanks CCP.
this is a great idea. That or at least a new short cut, like crlt-A for awesome, that disables ALL OF IT, all at once. anything to make it so I don't have to bring up the command window. but yeah automacic would be better because not all players will know of these changes.

Thanks for the patch, though I must agree it is part of CCP's duty to repair known bugs in a timely fashion which is included in the fee that all players pay. I'd like to touch on a few things here that I along with probably quite a great many other pilots have come across since the QR inception with some 'pretty pleases' thrown in for good measure.
1. Shifty Overview/Station Services
This is the most god awful annoying thing in EVE ever. Every time you dock in a station, the game will resize your overview and move it to either the top or bottom of your screen and resize the station services at the same time forcing you to correct this action repeatedly. Is it fixed?
2. Opening another players 'show info' screen makes EVE cry
I'm not sure exactly when this started to occur, but I don't even want to look at other people now since it causes severe lag for about 10-15 seconds while it strains to open, far worse if you are in space doing something. Is it fixed?
3. Clone jumping freezes your client or fools you into thinking you lost your implants
You mentioned an 'error' in the patch notes, but I have jumped a few times with different toons and one of two things above happened every time. Either the client just crapped out, or when I arrived in my new clone it stated my implants were gone, and my training time was extended accordingly. I actually bought new +4's and tried to install them only to be told 'You cannot install an implant to a slot that is already taken'. Explatives insued. Is it fixed?
4. Undocking after a successful clone jump in your ship offlines your modules
Another odd occurrence, your modules would show as online in the station, but once you undocked would display as greyed out and 'offline'. When trying to online them in space you will be met with the error 'Module already online' thus if it was a sensor booster or an activatable module of the like you would be unable to use it at all. Sometimes you could relog several times and it would fix itself, more often then not however a petition had to be sent in. Is it fixed?
5. CCP Hates ISK sellers
Oh really? You already know that the low sec macro-ers who sit in the same systems 23/7 and farm the crap out of those said systems in their Raven's programmed to cloak whenever local increases by 1 are the main contributors to this so called epidemic? When are you going to make it impossible to fit a cloak on a Battleship? Give the real players the power to find, and destroy these perpetuators of the thing you claim unbalances the game most. Let them log, but don't let them cloak.
6. When the Nerf bat makes contact, it's out of the park.
As someone else so eloquently stated previously in this thread, Missles are the new snowball. Let's say, oh, un-nerf them a tad so us Caldari pilots don't feel like we would be better served to get out of our ships and throw toothpicks at opposing enemy vessels for damage. Please?
7. March 2009 Customizable ships
Don't pre-Nerf these, please. You did this with the Heavy Interdictor's and the Black Ops ships which are really overpriced Battlecruisers and Battleships with no practical uses. I'll give the Hictor some credit, it is awesome in Hi-Sec warfare but in 0.0 which is where it's supposed to be) you are flying a death trap. The Black Ops is an awesome idea, but it is a weak ship with horrible scan res, and you know you will be primary anyhow so flying one into a fight is not even a consideration. I use mine for mission running, thats about all I feel comfortable doing with a 550mil ISK cyno-able Battleship.
This is running long...so apologies for the book, i'm just stating what I have experienced and heard since the QR inception. Maybe you agree, maybe you don't. Replies? Flames? Comments?

Very nice content, nice to get it before holidays. But I see that CCP still hasn't taken their customer relation classes.
Yes you've done a good job on the game. Yes the patch is fine and dandy. Yes it's great that you (finally) add more and more options to turn off/on things, it adds for diversity and makes the player feel he/she can configure the game they want.
But you still havn't learned to stop talk bullcrap. This is not a Christmas *gift*. This is you guys being lucky/working extra hard to put something out before Christmas. A gift would've been to put in a mindless toy, like snowballs. A treat would've been to give us something we didn't expect.
This that you bring, we a) expected, b) you would've delivered sooner or later anyway, if you worked harder to put it out faster, it brings new variables on the table. b1) could we demand that you speed things up when necessary fixes/patches come in the future, or was this a one timer? then b1.1 kicks in) was this the very patch you wanted more than anything to come out in short notice?, or b2) so you'll be starting to deliver certain patches faster, speeding up the finalizing stages of testing, doing more throughout work in earlier stages perhaps, etc? Then this is even less of a gift, it's rather just an indication of the future of this game.
Keep up the good work CCP, I love this game, my multiple accounts will keep promoting this wonderful job. But seriously, you need to hire customer relations people. Like, very very very very badly. I thought you learned in the poor handling of t20, ghost training fix, etc. This is your weak spot, and ironicly, you seem to ignore it as well.
Either way, thanks for some good work, enjoy your holidays! See you in space.

FFS. All you whiners go on about about your free 'gift' as though CCP actually owe you a gift of some sort.
If this patch does all the things it says it will then I for one consider this the best patch EVER. Since Quantum was released my enjoyment of the game has decreased as I cant play for long without re-starting the game because of the damn leaking. Cant run missions, cant pvp, cant mine. For me, this patch is the most important Eve gift possible. It means I can start playing again. Before the whiners get in and start telling me that these problems shouldnt have 'been' in the first place, this Quantum expansion is the only time a patch has made my game unplayable. I want to play again. Hopefully now I can. Happy Xmas me!! As for anything else concerning 'gifts', i'll take what-ever they give but if they give me nothing i'll be just as happy.
Well done CCP for addressing these issues and making it count before the holiday season begins. TY for giving me my game back (hopefully).

I just have to ask...
Was the mission "Buzz Kill" part of the Need for Speed initiative too? Really? Generating over 100 frigate and destroyer wrecks per mission?!?
If that's indicative of your sense of dedication to improved performance, it's not just your customer relations that lands in the "ignorant" category.
And yes, I'm of the opinion that squashing client-side latency and lag issues is, in fact, part of your job. It's like if the evening news anchors told their audience "Merry Christmas, our gift to you is news about the ongoing world economic crisis!"

First let me say CCP programmers are real heroes to get stuff done in the limited down times CCP has. The programmers are obviously top notch. But...the CCP Xmas present I think most of us want is a better QA and testing workshop at CCP.
As someone in the computer biz CCP cannot bluff me. The CCP QA program is in trouble. We should be able to download client as soon as downtime starts for patch. Patches should not actually still be in final development as appears so often is the case at CCP. Sure problems requiring last second fixes before release happen on rare occasion to everyone. But at CCP it seems to be standard practice.
The fact that you are always needing to change the client during patch downtime is bad. It tells me your test server setups suck in major way. They just are not close enough to the real hardware for complete testing -- apparently not even in the broadest sense. I suspect you cannot really test any of the communication performance aspects until you have the real hardware offline from regular usage. I suspect you have problems simulating actual node to node communication and database look up performance for the servers as well. It should be obvious to whoever is in charge of QA and testing that virtual machine setups and virtual nodes simulations have limited fidelity for complex hardware farms. Virtual just doesn't have matching hardware speed constraints and often not even the actual protocol conversions and constraints.
Either that or your Development & QA planning and execution sucks. I am going to be nice and assume upgrades to the real MMO software and hardware completely outpaces having something even roughly similar for testing.
The part were bugs show up that require addressing a few days or week later is so much not a problem. Although given how well CCP programmers do under the current situation, I suspect we would hardly ever see those days or week later fixes -- if CCP testing and QA was working.
Sure the QA and test servers have to be smaller and cheaper than the real setup in this economy. But good QA cannot just some desktops doing double duty or a single retired realtime MMO server node running a ton of virtual machines intended to simulate the key roles from the real hardware setup. A realtime MMO screams for a QA and testing workbench with the performance of all parts scaled down in the same proportions and running the same protocols and using software operating on the same algorithms where possible. Even if implemented on multiple pieces of older equipment . Sometimes buying the workgroup/smaller business version of the load balancer is cheap enough and worthwhile. Sometimes you can only running a rigged Linux box to simulate the timing and output of various devices and server in the real server farm.

Do a financial report showing how you and all your buds who used ghost training were paying 1.4 accounts per year effectively and now drop to flat 1 account.
But honestly? I think CCP saw ghost training as the fast path to a web of accounts that produced enough ISK that serious users stopped paying the main active account altogether using GTC off the market. That is CCP saw ghost training as quickly leading to 0.4 accounts actually paying real money.
Of course CCP might have analyzed that wrong. But CCP does have the IPs, email addresses, and real payments versus GTC codes of all those accounts to weighn and you don't. I suspect they know more about the business than any one user or small group of users.

No please don't. I want a stable well-performing client for a while. The more bugs they actually address the more chance the client or servers stop performing well.
Actually I am sure they have a prioritized list for when they get past the performance issues. And as long as they solve those bugs a few at a time....
On the other hand, some bugs have been around so long that lots of people will cry "nerf" and sob inconsolably.

Naw I don't think it is the primary client processing speed CCP is working on. It is client communications speed, server battle processing, and some use of client side GPUs that verges on driver level software.
CCP is trying to cut down the number of bytes that need to be sent and to make sure the servers produce what does need to be sent in a timely manner. The client software cannot complete the frames until it gets all the data...which unfortunately includes things like "that turret just fired". Also there are good ways and bad ways to tell the video GPU what to draw and where the data for that drawing is saved. In a few cases CCP told GPUs to take the long way to draw stuff.
Most users do not have local network speed connections like you do in the "immediate neighborhood" of the servers.
We got cranky trans-oceanic and trans-continential connections where UDP game traffic sometimes gets throttled down in favor of TCP connections and banking and other business traffic. Some us get burpy lag where UDP traffic gets delayed but saved for high speed burst; others simply have a low gaming bandwidth somewhere in the links, and some of us lucky types get both of those problems at times.
And no paying for faster local connections seldom solves Internet connection problems that happen somewhere in between your local ISP and CCP's ISPs. Few ISP have dirfect links to other countries let alone other continents.
But I got your idea & it has merit. Have CCP produce software for a single standard EVE gaming machine/console. Then make everyone buy that machine. The client development would be streamlined to the extreme and no individuals would have performance or software issues different from anyone else. On the downside, even you might need to buy that "made in Iceland" computer and there might not be enough people interested in that deal for CCP to stay in business.

Besides, GTC's off the market are still purchased with cold hard cash. You did know that, right? There is no GTC fairy, and no elves cobble them in there. Cold. Hard. Cash.

Dude ISK is not real cash. CCP can't spend it on server hardware or ISP fees. Their programmers can't eat the food it buys in EVE. You can think of your time invested in-game and draw real-world cash equivalents all you want. But outside the EVE environment, ISK is worth zip in the real world money markets.
Oh sorry I used a technical term wrong (GTC) so that you can claim you misunderstood, though you darn well know the monthly activation codes sell on the in-game market for ISK.
It is every player's dream to play for no real life cash. I am not saying you actually achieved that. But if you are not aware of that possibility, you are one of the most blissfully ignorant EVE players alive...or you could just be self-righteous liar twisting reality to support his argument against change.
I have no idea what CCP profits are. But just because they take in (hypothetically) $480,000 per month doesn't automatically make them rich. Especially if their expenses (hypothetically) including payroll, hardware, ISP and software total $475,000 per month.
I would hate to see them go the upcoming MMO sales model now the rage in low end games. Yeah everyone can play FREE. And the game company makes their money taking "official bribes" for perks and special equipment. No way to get certain stuff without "official bribes". And because so few pay - the bribes tend to be steep ($25, $80, $100, $200 a shot). EVE would be like: faction ammo $25 per 10000, small POS $100, capital ship $500, etc.

Maybe you should give yourself a gift by upgrading your computer...
Oh look, CCP have given me a xmas pressie after .... a stupid troll!
My comp ..
Gigabyte P35 mobo, dual boot. 4gb OCZ 1333mhz ram 2 x 360gb drives, raid. GT8800GTS (640 ram) - latest drivers Intel Quad-Core @ 2.8ghz (only a small o/c but it doesnt need to run at factory guarenteed 3.8ghz)
So apart from buying a whole new comp, this should be good enough to run Eve, as its good enough to run any of the newest games out there on the market. I get no leak from them so why should I get the leak from Eve which, in comparison, its a very low end game?
So, troll, stfu and crawl back into your slime. I welcome this patch as long as it does what it says it will do. I dont need snowballs or anything else, I just need to able to play the game that I pay for.

Players buy those codes and then sell them for ISK. That's right. They BUY them. With real money. Then they sell them. With CCP approval. Read all about it on these very forums!

Yes, they sell on the in-game market for isk, so you personally do not have to pay real cash. But for a GTC to be on the market, someone must have paid CCP real money to buy that GTC, imported it in-game and listed it on the market.
GTC's available in-game to buy for isk are not just randomly spawned out of nowhere. Every single one of them has been paid for with real cash by somebody. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |

I can't believe you haven't understood the mechanics of how ETC's work. Oh and allow me to wear the pedantry hat by saying ISK is the Icelandic Currency. However the ISK we're interested in is the InterStellar Kredits. Okay hat removed and on with lesson. Player A has the time and the character skills to rake in lots of isk every month to find he has spare ISK left over after pvp and one time purchases have been deducted. Player A, although he has a good job also has a family to look after and possibly a habit. While not cash poor he (or she) can't justify paying cash on a regular basis for the game any more. This is where he approaches Player B.
Player B, has a good job and doesn't mind spending real life cash at a website that sells Eve Time Codes for 60 days at 34.99 dollars each. He buys a few. The cash from this is split between the vendor and CCP. Player B buys his own account(s) via direct debit or credit card billing, so he's got a few ETC's to sell to players for ingame ISK that he needs so he can purchase his next shiny, or pos fuels or Capital parts as he has little time or inclination to grind missions or rocks during his play time.
Player A and Player B meet up. Player A remember has lots of ISK that he doesn't know what to do with but is in a bit of a mess when it comes to disposable income. Player B tells Player A he can purchase an ETC at a price, and Player A agrees to that price and the trade is conducted via the market/contract or the secure website procedure. Player A accepts and his account is automatically credited that amount of game time. The code is used instantly and he can't resell it for more or less ISK. Player B pockets the price in ingame ISK and then starts buying whatever it was he or she wanted. Both players are happy and they continue playing Eve.
Note this is the only way it happens. There's no other legal source that bypasses CCP. In game ISK isn't created or generated it's merely transfered from one player to another, could be in a different region, may even be within the same alliance, it doesn't really matter that much. The point is, SOMEONE has had to pay CCP for the time code. CCP don't really care who uses that code or even if it's used straight away.

Thanks for the lag reduction war on client. It's appreciated. Weapon stacking is really useful in this regard I can see that.
Now for the whine.
Missiles. Specifically Missile Damage. I understand that bigger heavier missiles should do lower damage to faster moving targets, it seems "obvious" in a way, however having used a raven with cruise missiles yesterday against what should have been cruisers and frigates I found my T2 cruise launchers didn't actually kill a cruiser npc even after the first complete and full launcher salvo. Yes that's right it would have taken at least 12 cruise launchers going at full capacity to destroy a 30K isk rat.
I changed to using the night hawk and it was able to tank and fire off heavy missiles destroying the frigates and cruisers with ease and the three or four battleships weren't a problem either. Yes my missile skills are better with heavy's loaded on a ship, but I think the nerfbat went way overboard when it comes to cruise missiles and frigate/cruiser targets.
I haven't yet tested the cruise missile launchers on Battleship npc's yet, but hopefully the damage would be closer to the actual figure you'd expect.
Could you please reduce the formulae somewhat so Cruise missiles aren't loosing 95% of their damage capabilities vs a smaller target? I wouldn't mind if it was 50% base and that could be improved by using target painters and webs either. When a player can't complete a level 4 mission using a raven because the rats are smaller than average and the cruise missile rate of fire is too low and the damage penalty too high, something needs to be done to fix something that clearly isn't working as intended as it's gone too far in one direction.
I understand that missiles should be target dependant, but to the point where a cruise battery WON'T destroy a smaller target is stupid.
I'm going back to heavy launchers, please don't nerf them more just because they work against all target types with very good launcher skills.

You say ''dramatic improvements in our Need for Speed''
But when i read the patch notes i see all changed stuf that my MSI 4870 OC 512 on a Intel E8500 can do while defragmentating hardrives and downloading movies and watching a DVD ad the same time while playing eve and then stil have no lag problem on my end .
Most off the lag i get is when the server let my computer wait. My connection from Amsterdam to Londen is extreme fast so i will not really benefit from this christmas ''dramatic improvements''
But he when you run a 486 SX 50MHZ PC then maiby this wil give you the boost you where looking for

I hate to ask, but what kind of drones were you using on these cruisers and frigates? And, if you weren't using any drones to deal with smaller ships, did you ever consider using a couple of medium turrets in the turret high slots?
Personally, I'd recommend all of the above. Carry a set of medium drones and a set of light drones. Kill cruisers with medium drones and the two medium turrets. Kill frigates with just the light drones. Save your missiles for BS's, dude.
Still, your complaints of the nerf being too steep do not fall on deaf ears. Even though I think missiles were previously overpowered, they were hit extra-hard with the nerf bat, along with Battleship speed and agility across the board.
But I digress, I'm posting here pretty much to remind you that the Raven has a drone bay and turret hardpoints, and that your cruise missiles aren't really for frigates, though if you want to use them to speed up killing cruisers that's your perogative.
Train moar drones, as they say!

What needs to be done is that the raven pilots fields medium and light drones, which will melt frig- and cruiser-sized rats in roughly no seconds flat.

CCP, Im not going to flame you at all, instead im going to thank you for the fix that you are deploying today. After all, it is your game and you guys can messit up as yo wish. Q-R was deployed with all kinds of nerfs, IE ships far too slow, Reducing the dammage on weapons, making smaller ships like frigs impossable to kill in missions, and now you give us a patch that you are calling a "Christmas present" to us only to save your butts because you guys messed the game up in the first place? COMMON!,...GET REAL!
next patch,... 1) Give us the dammage back to our weapons\ Its only fair that we ba able to kill whats out there with out cruise missiles only because we trained for them. i know that I for one, have trained for them only to have my dammage seriously nerfed to the point that the game is, diffacult to play, and thats being kind in words. 2) Ship speed,....Im dealing with the speed,....but common,....Get real,...give us the speed back If your not going to give us these things back,...then make new skills to train,...THAT would be nice!,...and would satisfy a lot of people on this subject,....so they have to do some extra training,.....big deal!,...im in for that! But seriously,...Something needs to be done with the frigs and smaller ships dammage thing,....THATS just not right OH and one more things,... WE WANT SNOWBALL LAUNCHERS AND LOTS OF SNOW. We took a vote,...and we all want snowballlaunchers,.... >R< Clatu Verada Nicto Fly safe and watch for snowballs comming your way!

It's certainly a step in the right direction. I still think there is a lot of unnecessary decoration which could be made optional - clouds in missions, or that annoying swaying thing that the camera is always doing, for example.
But, on the whole, I approve of this patch, and you may proceed ;-)

I for one am very excited about the New Patch. I have been hearing more about this one than usual. I also think that the fact that you can get PLEX cards is amazing. That is a way of getting more time through hard working and with ISK that you earn. You do not have to actually pay Earth money to extend your time. That is a gift. I heard that the time factor along with speed is going to dramatically change for the better is that true? I love Eve Online it is the best thing I have found on the internet as far as gamming goes and I am grateful for all they do. Ditto on the down time thing. I wish there was a way to not have so much down time. The time that you guys do it makes it to where I can't play before work as long as I would like to. I vote that you guys change your' downtime to be like in the middle of the night here in the USA....LOL!

Originally by: Jed Clampett First let me say CCP programmers are real heroes to get stuff done in the limited down times CCP has. The programmers are obviously top notch. But...the CCP Xmas present I think most of us want is a better QA and testing workshop at CCP.
if those top notch programmers would stop messing up we wouldn't need this patch
agreed the need for speed thing is needed but all the rest is just repairing what CCp themselves ****ed up
if those damm dev wouldn't be so keen on nerfing things, but instead look for options, to counter certain advantages then we wouldn't needs as many patches either
look at it the way you want. This is no Xmas pressie, it's just (partially) repairing what they messed up

Can we get a pledge that you won't lie to us anymore in addition to these "fixes"?
It'd be nice to know we'll never get another helping of, "That wasn't a feature, it was a bug! What verbage in our manual?!? No, really, it costs us precious DB performance. You guys are ripping us off!"
Yes, maybe a healthy dose of honesty would be a good Christmas gift. Or, barring that, maybe it could be a New Year resolution. While I'm on the topic of business practices, why does it cost more to buy 2 months via GTC than it does to buy 2 months, one month at a time, via credit card? That isn't industry standard!

A battleship being able to speed tank cruise missiles fubar. Not like they were overpowered, cruise missiles were weak as hell. And now the only thing they work on are capital ships. Even then, a cap ship just laughs at cruise missiles. Fix caldari plox.

Eve has been locking up my computer and forcing me to manually shut down as of the yesterday. It runs for a little bit then crashes. This gets worse each time. I had a blue screen one time telling me there was a critical memory error. This sounds like some kind of memory leak to me.
This happened with the original release of quantum rise but stopped after a day or two. I was wondering if you had done anything last night that may have caused this.
I am currently running diagnostics on my computer to see if it is on my end, as well as cleaning a few things up. Is the new patch supposed to fix some of these problems?

EveText! awesome, a non graphical fleet battle would be really funny, but there would be zero lag. also funny.
The Santa Freighter? Reindeer Frigates? (cruisers wouldn't be fast enough)
Cruise missiles, what exactly are they good for now? where are salvage drones or tractor drones? Faction Destroyers? (or even a second destroyer model? there are two Battle cruiser types for each race and t2 models, but no 2nd dessy and only one t2 dessy for each race? How about a salvage model?)
Please Fix Concord and the bounty system, both are broken.

Blood Titan , i have the same problem as yours. But it could be related to a RAM failure or overheating. Strange thing would be it happens only playing EVE.

You can do this already quite easily, navigate to:
C:\Documents and Settings\$USERNAME$\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\settings
on your PC (for Windows XP) - replacing $USERNAME$ with your Windows login and copy all files in that directory to the exact same location on your new install. The only thing it does not copy over IIRC is the bookmark folders.
Except you still can't copy settings between accounts, only for same account on multiple computers.

EVE Online: Quantum Rise 1.0.3 will unfortunately not be deployed today due to unforeseen network issues outside our control. The patch has been postponed for now but will be deployed as soon as possible. We thank you for your patience during the extended downtime today.

Edited by: Lopin Acheteur on 10/12/2008 15:59:11 Next time you are taking the server down outside of normal hours, can you name the news item SERVER DOWNTIME or something equally obvious. Merry Christmas is going to be a news item that busy people will not read until they get home to find an unxpected downtime.
This comes up every time there is a patch, but there needs to be an option for the login news page which ONLY contains important stuff. Having an important news item hidden by useless junk like 'Ardishapur begins initial moves to take control of Ammatar Mandate' of which a total 3 people care about, and already not the top news item 10 hours after being posted (with a misleading title) is just silly. People all don't login at the time CCP arrive at work, many don't log in every day, and if they do, you can't expect them to do more than login once in a 24 hour period.
I understand all the technical reasons why patches are late, I understand why the daily downtime is in my prime playing hours. Everything inconvenient, I understand.
Horrible communication I can not excuse, because it is not difficult to get right.

Why there was failure while deploying this patch ?
Simple , CCP , Santa Claus doesn't exist , that means that your "no lag" patch also don't exist , it's only imagination
