Edited by: UndeadMaster on 08/12/2008 13:03:01 Most corporations selling a product are forced to deal with customer testomonials, either good or bad. They will usually even devote sections of their websites to these reviews, testimonials, ratings etcetera.
Time and time again Ive seen people post reviews of bad customer service, and CCP immediately lock the thread and sometimes even ban the poster. They make it against the rules to discuss forum moderation, against the rules to post GM conversations, against the rules just to show any negativity towards the way they operate. Also, the individual employees of CCP must love it because their asses are covered if their rude to customers or make a mistake. (they leave the threads and posts that congratulate them of course). They want to keep you in the dark, so as to not show their mistakes to the sheep that many of you are. In your closed off antisocial existances, you wont care about this till you get screwed over, like countless others have. Im sure theyve found it very frustrating to not be able to share their experiences with the rest of us who have been helping to prop up the icelandic economy for the past five years.
Im sure this is the way that most corporations would love to operate, and I guess CCPs fortunate theyve found a market that can treat customers this way, and they keep coming back. I can assure you that this will not be the case one day however. I personally got hooked on this game before I got to know the company that ran it. Maybe back in the day the game captivated me enough to just shut up and play, like CCP would like me to....and just say, "man, that sucks" when a friend is treated poorly by this untransparent, unreliable, and inconsistent customer service system.
This is a product that we pay for, and we should have certain expectations. In this game the median age is somewhere around thirty, and im left wondering why people accept such regulations of the information that they are allowed to share each other, as if they were children. Im sure this thread will be locked though, like the many before it today, and yesterday. Maybe they will say its Off-topic, or quote some rule they made to cover their ass from criticism. But theyll never improve if they cant take criticism in stride and make their company worth sending your sub to....soo one day theyll fold.

You're right. Lucky for you, there's all of this, which details what you can expect and what you agree to expect by playing the game and hanging around in the forums.

If CCP's goal is to squash criticism then they suck at it. Half of general discussion is "fix this!" or "stop fixing this!".
The "management decision are final" part is pretty standard of any company's customer service. This is what the "don't discuss forum moderation/GM decisions" rule basically is. You'll see this clause in most store/forum/company rules and the results of violating it are usually similar to what CCP does.

They lock stupid pointless topics made by trolls. Enough whine topics about CCP arent locked (allthough they should have been locked and everyone in it banned). Normal complaining usually isnt locked.

LOL. Dont tell me you truly believe that? Some corporation only put positive stuff about them on these sections, and other companies just let their PR department make it. Welcome to the real world... ---------------------------------------------

They're totally ok with discussing moderation and GM discussions -- with the person in question. Not publicly. If you had an issue with something that was done to your own thread, wouldn't you rather go to the source and get the one-on-one treatment you're looking for?
Oh wait. That's not what you're looking for.
You want the ****storm on the forums, right? That thing that doesn't benefit anyone? Well... tough. If you want direct contact they're there for it, and are pretty reasonable once you open up that dialog in a way that doesn't make you look like a fool.

- Go into a mall and start screaming at the management. - Come back and describe what happened. - Reevaluate your opinion on CCP's customer service.
Good Luck and don't mind the taser.

It worked! It worked! We've created the ideal consumer who believes everything we tell him!
There's a time and place to complain about CCP's customer service. A public venue like this forum isn't. The petition system or an letter of complaint to HQ is.

This. I used to work in a mall and also did a sociological "study" involving malls and part of it was about costumer service.
Some places do post negative complaints on their sites or place of business. If you come across one then I would say that they are probably the better company to go with if their are a few places you are looking at to do business. This is a very rare occurrence though.

CCP have had the best customer service of any MMO or game rather that I have ever played. Go play a game like COD 5, people are whining on the forums about it being broken (which is true), there are a huge amount of bugs and not one reply has been made, or post saying "we're aware of the problems, we're going to fix it."
CCP keeps us updated as to what we do, and cares about their customers. I've filed quite a few petitions, and CCP has 80% of the time replied to them promptly and either fixed my problem, or explained why they can't fix it (IE: ships dieing to lag). I <3 CCP customer service.
Go try some other games and see if you even get updates about the game from Devs.

i play 2 mmos, and am active on the forums for both, and whenever ive need a negative post about customer service, its always been in a whiny thread and been made in a way to desever moderation. most people cant seem to grasp the concept of cunstructive critisism when making those threads, this results in the post(s) breaking the forums rules and the post gets removed and the thread locked. if people were capable of being constructive when posting these kinds of threads, then they would get locked all the time. try actually offering some suggestions on how to improve things insteah of just *****ing about it, and dont act so negative about it.

This was a response to seeing a friends account permabanned, then his other character permabanned for posting gm chat logs on the forums(protesting the ban).....they then moved this thread out of the game development forum where this happened. Then they locked the thread made by another person inquiring why they had locked the first thread, after removing the gm communication.
This wasnt meant for general discussion, and you dont know the backstory. Im not just mindlessly *****ing though, im suggesting that they make it more transparent. That way people will know what to expect in all situations, and there wouldnt be controversy when they ban one guy and not another for the same thing...or reimbursal situations in 0.0 that leave people bitter.
It makes me laugh that criticizing ccp makes you inquire for my stuff or say go play WOW... Ive probably played this game longer than most of you....and have seen this kind of bull**** for years. You say I shouldnt care cause its just a game, I say Im not gonna hug ccp's nuts....cause its just a game

The existence of an EULA should not extinguish the desire for an improvement in customer service. An improved level of service and transparency would presumably be in the best interest of all parties.
Or is the majority of the community against the very idea of questioning procedures and rules?

You know I once saw someone having a similar arguement with a cop. He just threw the guy in the back of the car and drove off. Horrible customer service.
You are free to question procedures and rules (this thread isn't locked yet) as long as you don't break those rules and procedures while doing it, which as the OP just so nicely showed was done repeatedly in the original case.
