Loosing skill points ain't fun, I think we cal all agree to that.
I suggest that CCP add a pop-up that reminds you to update your clone if the current clone houses less skill points than in your characters possession when you hit the undock button.
Who's with me on this one?

Only people who have lost SP because they forgot to update their clone. I think the current system is fine and needs no adjusting. All you need to do is keep an eye on your clone from time to time and you won't lose SP.

I knew someone would point that out, and it can be easy to forget hence the need for a pop-up. There is simply no reason anyone would undock unless they really had to in a clone that is not able to keep the characters current skill points.
They have mostly annoying pop-ups that come up when you take on a mission or when you venture into >0.4 security space. I see no reason why a pop-up that would not be annoying should not be implemented into the game.

I once lost half a million SP because I went to battle without updating my clone. It was a very good lesson and taught me to constantly check. I have six accounts and I know it can be hard to keep track of everything but it's just something you will have to do.
The warnings you get when going into low sec and for missions are so you are certain you know what you're doing. They're like the messages you get when accepting party/gang invite from someone who is at war. I do not believe, however, that CCP should always hold people's hands and they count on this. A lot of people got blown up despite the warning that they're accepting an invite from soneone who is at war (there is a multi page thread of someone who blew up half a trillion ISK worth in ships and equipment) and this is what CCP count on.
This is the way EVE has been and will be. I, after losing SP, understand what you are saying but I am against it. Anyway after a while people would click OK without even lookint at it, like everyone does with most warnings.

Yes, it makes the game easier. No, it doesn't spoonfeed people. It's the semi-automation of something which is important enough to justify it.
Keeping it as it is now doesn't benefit gameplay in anyway so why not change it? It's just another one of those things you have to micromanage.
I'd prefer that difficult tasks (piloting your ship in pvp, missions, mining, trading) should be kept difficult while simple actions (updating clones, installing implants, aligning/warping/docking/undocking) should be kept simple.
We already have a new player tutorial, we have welcome pages, we have warning popup messages when we are about to enter lowsec or commit a crime or join a gang which has pilots at war in it etc etc etc.
Is one more popup really going to matter?
Yes, some people will ignore it (or even turn off the option to display it at all), but adding this feature will benefit those who use it without any drawbacks for those don't.
The only problem with it is that it's a low priority "nice to have" rather than a high priority "must have" so it would probably be pushed to the back of the queue.
