So yeah, I was wondering if someone could walk me through how drone assist / guard works ?
More details the merrier !
Only way I've used the assist feature so far was assigning everyone's drones in a gang to an interceptor so it could use them to decloak people.
I was experimenting the other day, had 3 accounts on at once, put 2 in a gang assisted drones from one gangmember to other, then stole from my other char that wasn't in gang's can to get flagged, out of gang char attacks thief that has drones assisting, that char returns fire, but the assisting drones didn't attack for some reason :[ This was in a 0.4 sec system, no clue if that's relevant..
So does this stuff actually work ? Did recent patch break it ? I couldn't get the drones to guard either..

'Assisting' drones only attack if the one they're assisting engages first I believe. 'Guard' should make them aggro on anyone shooting that person, though.

Not sure I understand what you mean by having to attack first, shouldn't the assisting drones attack whatever the assisted ship's drones/guns/ew engage (after having the drones assigned to it)..

In my experience: guard -> drones attacking your attacker, assist -> drones attacking your target you are shooting at.
Unfortunately 'assist' works only with guns or missiles, not using my own drones by 'Engage target'. At least in my experience. Bad for pure drone ships :(

guard = They will attack anything that's attacking the guy your guarding
assist = they will go after whatever the person your assisting is shooting at (But the person your assisting has to activate a module onto someone for them to actually assist otherwise they will just sit there doing nothing till he aggro's something.

I think guard and assist can be used to circumvent a ECM jam. If you get jammed you might not be able to tell your drones to attack but you can have them assist someone shooting the primary and then the drones target the victim themselves.
Guess you could call it a stealth boost of Gallente against Caldari.

Well, a stealth assist (see what i did there ) to everyone dealing with overpowered ecm boats.
Makes sense when you think about it. As we all have discovered over the years, drones have minds of their own. So unless that ecm is being directed at each individual drone they should be able to ignore the ecm affect on the owner ship.

I didn't notice anyone saying this, but I skimmed rather fast so I'll say it anyway;
If you set drones to assist, and the person you're telling them to assist is already engaged, they will not attack until they (re)activate any offensive module, and they will always change target to shoot at the latest thing the assistee has aggressed.
