EVE Online: Quantum Rise 1.0.4 will be deployed on Tuesday, 16th December. No additional downtime is required for this deployment.
This patch focuses exclusively on updates to our Need for Speed initiative with several fixes being deployed to address problems with memory leaks.
Patch Notes are available; updates to the notes may be added should any further items be cleared through the Quality Assurance process. These updates will be highlighted with green text.

excellent, the mem leak from being logged in a while was ruining my market domination and my p0rn watching at the same time. It was terrible.
I hope this patch is the holy grail we have been seeking, to allow my Christmas and New Year gaming to go smoothly. -- Chribba's LoveQuest 17:00hrs Dec. 20th (Prizes!!)

Let's hope you manage to do it this time...
Did I see that correctly: You can load all necessary data to the server and patch the whole thing without taking additional downtime? Why don't you do that all the time? --- "Multiple exclamation marks are a sure sign for a diseased mind." -Terry Pratchett |

4 patches after the expansion, thats rather messy of you CCP. I think we the players wouldnt have minded waiting a few extra weeks while you got the kinks out instead of getting it when we did and had to deal with instability. I dont think the "the expansion was stable on the test server" excuse will fly either here. Next time, assure your expansions are stable, dont fall into the patch things constantly rut. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

I dont know about you, but I only started having a mem leak with 1.0.3, which if I remeber was deployed last week. -- Chribba's LoveQuest 17:00hrs Dec. 20th (Prizes!!)

Eh, unfortunitely I was subjected to the warp=crash bug that appeared when quantum rise was released, though today I was able to play without it once hitting me, so im hoping I didnt just have an awsome crash free day today. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

They can't. End of story. Its not a matter of the dev's not doing their job, its simply a matter of scale. Eve's been out for a little over 5 years now.
Now, in that 5 year stretch of time, I want you to name me every single PC component or peripheral that has came out since then(I'll be nice and not add the hardware that came out before eve, but it was still playable on). Even things as standard as keyboards and mice count, I've had conflicts throw because someone did something a liiiiittle different with a mouse before.
Tell me when your done, I'll wait.
Sure you got it? good.
Next, I want you to compile a list of all system level software. Drivers(all versions for each item), Codecs, updates, any security software, or just oddball sloppy coding that some company did on a software because its easier for them to change a system setting than do the job the right way. Oh, and don't forget, Eve runs on three different operating systems. And there is yet another software layer in two of those.
Got all that? Nifty.
Now, I want you to test every single one of those things, in every single possible system configuration, against Eve. Make sure it works in every single one of them. Make sure there are no conflicts with the client, its a simple job, you should be able to do it, after all... You're bashing the devs because they can't.
The willfully ignorant people who thrash software developers really bug me. The truth of the matter is, there isn't a single more complicated and varied piece of tech in the entire world, than the Personal Computer. There just isn't. Not the space shuttle, not the high end super computers. None of them. All of them are childs play compared to trying to make sure something works 100% of the time on the home computers out there. Thats why NO ONE DOES IT. No one. Instead, everyone just tries to cover the most common setups. And believe me, even thats no picnic. If CCP gets it 90% right, 90% of the time, for 90% of their customers at the time of release... they've done their jobs. Because that is really all you can shoot for on a point release, 90%. The other 10% you'll fix in patches once complaints inevitably start rolling in.

Very well said mate. A day of EVE gameplay costs me at the moment 0.33$. I can live with some more DT from time to time. It can go on for days actually if I have the right skill training set. You just need to try something diffrent than playing EVE sometime. Like... living a life.

Edited by: Njana on 16/12/2008 09:18:56 Glad you were able to fix it before the christmas holidays.
I often play with two clients in fullscreen (switching beween them on one monitor) on an older computer (1GB ram) so the memory leak was pretty bad for me.

So were we. :-) The launch window for 1.0.3 was very critical because we wanted to get another patch done before christmas with additional fixes we didn't get into 1.0.3 such as the market leak fix. Also, because there were a lot of low-level changes made in 1.0.3 we were prepared for a few issues to crop up.
We hope this fix will make your clients run more stable than before.
By the way, if you're running on a 1GB computer I recommend turning resource cache off; it's doubtful this cache will help your performance. I also recommend keeping trails turned off on low-mem machines as they suck up memory.

Will the API have the usual "24 hours DT after patch" also or can we count on it since it's not a... "major" patch?
Cheers.

A patch is always good news, and if it only takes place using DT much better, i didn't suffer much from the mem leaks, nor did i had any problem with the client, the only hint at something wrong was my JIT jumping from time to time while exiting the game (just in time debugger for those that don't know what JIT is). Characters "David Grogan" & "Lifelongnoob" are both run from one vista x64 sp1 ultimate pc with 4gb ddr 2 ram and dual core amd athlon x2 6000+ nvidia geforce 8500gt 512mb graphics dual 19inch lcd ------ NO serious lag here - only in huge battles
Character "Germaldi's Dad" runs of a laptop with xp sp3 & 2gb DDR 2 Ram and dual core intel core duo 1.8ghz processor and 128mb intel graphics -------- slight lag after about 60 mins of play --- one slight bug with module graphics looking like they were put offline even though they are online
Character "Germaldi's Mum" runs of an ancient dell laptop with xp sp3 & 1gb ddr1 ram and 1.8 ghz single core intel p4 processor with 32mb geforce 2 graphics (yer i hope to replace this chip with a 64mb geforce 4 chip -----it is possible on this model of laptop) ----- serious lag after 30 mins of play ---------- this WAS not an issue in emperence age --- only a lag since quantum rise was deployed.
Hopefully this patch will bring back the client's performance to the way it was before

...Its not a matter of the dev's not doing their job, its simply a matter of scale...
Finally someone with both a grip on reality and enough patience to try and help others achieve the same. Good one mate.
And have you noticed that some people, too addicted to an MMO, will moan manipulatively instead of making constructive comments when they want something changed? Such behaviour is pathetic, akin to a 3 year old's tantrum. It is counter-productive and negative, considering that any paid game programmer takes pride in his work and would have tried to fix the problem(s) anyway without asinine imbeciles whining into his ear. Fly safe, Odin

I didn't see anything about bug fixes in there. That's my main concern. I had this (http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=945439&page=6#157) happen to me too after the patch and lost many millions of isk from it. I need to do some more low-sec runs, but am afraid the game will crash again and leave me hanging around in space undefended.
