Ok, it used to be that if there were frigs in an NPC spawn, they would warp scramble you, preventing you from warping out of the belt if the NPC's proved too much trouble. NOW, if you release a drone, any frigs orbiting and scrambling you will dis-engage off about 30km and eventually attack your drones. While this may look like it is making things tougher to some cuz it means you have to be more careful about drones. It really just makes things easier. NOW, if I get in trouble and need to warp out. All I gotta do is release a drone to get the frigates to not warp scramble me anymore. CCP, I suggest you fix this cuz it makes hunting way, way too easy. |

yer i have noticed this... though my last night me and a corp m8 in a dom took on 2 1mil bs and 5 100k+ crusers, normaly i would go first and tank this spawn in my raven, and he would shoot it but cous it spawned while we were in the belt they all started to shoot him.
so after the crusers died, he had to warp out cous he had no cap left, leaveing me with 2 npcs bs to kill... no great hardship, but made a lot easer cous they both started shooting up the drones that were left behind, i killed the first and had the sheild down on the second before it got tired of drones and started shooting me. |

The risk is lag and veldspar roids, saying that I did lose a caracal lst night because I was warped scrambled by an npc I forgot to release my drones in the rush but 2 medium drones probably would'nt have saved me anyway.

Saber you need to do this more often.
The old Frigates do not scrambel anymore. This is the npc-interceptors work now.
They work as they should. when npc's have passed the 20km zone they will not change target. and some of these good ones goes from 50km to 4km in less than 10sec. The only way to take them out is by drones or really small guns. All npc outside of 30km zone might at all times change targets, and they go for drones very often. But this is because it is more drones out there than it is ships, so the chances are bigger.
The only one not aplying to this rule is the BS (Battle ship). he will not change target when he is at his optimal range.
Try this Saber and you might see that this is not a bug but a ai program working.
But I agree on that hunting is a little easier, but it take a little more work to do it.

This is a perfect exampel of this. One guy has to run from the field. The npc's have to choose new targets, they do this at random and you are competing against all the drones out in the field. the chances are slim that the npc will pick you first.

No, you mis-understand. I will go through what is happening step-by-step.
1) Interceptors fly to my ship and orbit me at 4.5km. 2) I release a drone 3) Interceptors DIS-ENGAGE, and fly off to about 30km from my ship 4) Interceptors attack my drone 5) I warp out if I want to, only lost one drone so no big deal. |

That is very abberant behavior. I've never seen this happen in killing 1000's of elite frigate/BS/Cruiser spawns.
Perhaps it is a bug with that particular frigates AI?

Edited by: cashman on 21/07/2004 12:07:59 It's always something isn't it. The NPCs are fine as they are atm, they require loads of ammo, guns do **** damage on them. So no need for tampering with how they work atm.
Want challenge? Go do PVP.
edit: And I have never seen what you refered to happend.

No risk?
Last night I warped into a spawn with my lovly Dominix and procceded to lay waste to the spawn, was only some Excutors.
Surprise, one of them was a 3m Guardian Elder Exe
Despite repairig over 1000 armor every 12 sec an dbeeing hardned against their damage my drones was not able to kill the 4 intys before I was wtfpwned.
Hazard of close range tough. Maybe long range is "safer".
But there is risk I tell ya. -------------------------

Oh yes, short range holds enough risk. Just a patch of lag can kill you there.
Long range however hardly needs any defences and carries next to no risk, no matter what the spawn is. The only real risk you run is of not being able to do enough damage to kill off the really ubertanked NPC officer BS from 100km. But then again, one or two friends coming in at the right moment can fix that easily.
So yes, we need even harder NPC's, but I'm pretty positive them NPC installations will rpovide the challenge we seek. Untill then: long range for isk, short range for risk. _______________________________________________
