Society hasn't changed all that much.
Peoples perceptions and aspirations have though.
Culture and how you aspire to be yourself, what you feel and must be... look through another persons eyes, you'll understand more and see what i do.
The 2nd line will become very irelivent.... then you can start on problems.
No more misconception, all our ill's in one way or another ______

Edited by: Zantrei Kordisin on 25/12/2008 00:30:53 The Polish workers around my area from my experience have always been absurdly hard working, never causing any trouble. In general, the UK is still pretty well off compared to other countries, it is as others are saying, the media taking things out of all proportion.
The foreign workers in the UK aren't an issue. Immigration is not an issue. The only people that actually think this are people that read The Sun and The Daily Star far too much. The biggest problem if you ask me, is the number of people sat around claiming benefits, job seekers allowance and spending five years on disability after bruising their knee. These also happen to be the same people who complain about foreign workers 'taking all the jobs', which is rediculous. The reason why these people can't get jobs? They can't be bothered. They don't try, and when they do, they have **** all to offer. It's their own fault, plain and simple. And the reason why economic migrants have become an issue? It gives these idiots what they believe to be valid excuses to carry on sitting around living off the state.
We should have a system that allows for a maximum of 5 years job seekers/unemployment benefits total in a person's lifetime, mush harsher restrictions and checkups for those who want disability living allowance, make it a requirement for those on unemployment to be doing courses at a local college or whatever to give them something to offer. And make the benefits reliant on both evidence that a job is being looked for, and that satisfactory effort is being made in the educational programs.
Nothing like a good rant, eh? Still, I'm very liberal in most of my views, pro-EU, pro-euro, pro-gay rights, anti-war and so on, but I just can't stand these idiots that sit around claiming cash from the government going 'but it's the poles the poles are taking all our jobs it's not the fact that I'm an unreliable, uneducated, inexperienced, incompetent moron I swear, it's the poles, that's what the daily star said'. Kick the bastards out on the streets until they are willing to put some effort in, that's what I say. _________________________________________________________

The media is a business. What news sells? It sure as heck isn't, "George, a 20 year veteran of the pub The Bird in Hand, has finally paid off his 220 pound tab! Yay George".
Shocking news gets attention. Hence, those sort of stories get run. And around and around it goes.

200Ç/month is not enough to pay rent, never mind utilities and amenities. Sometimes there's a reason people don't want to work for ú185, because they would be out on the street if they did.

I thought that I'd better weigh in here:
I live in SW England on the border of Wales, in a small village but 2 miles from a small-ish town. Now this town in question has deteriorated in the past few years; not in the buildings, not in the services, but in the people. Gone are the times you could walk down the street without wishing that you didn't bump into somebody.
I do not understand this fixation with wanting to appear 'hard', walking as such and dressing like a Chav. And the underlieing (spelling) problem here, as far as I understand it, is stereotypes. The local youth actually aspire to being in a sterotypic group, and I'm sure it is more widespread than an area in the Forest of Dean. If they are not part of a stereotype, they are branded a loner and an outcast whom people insult for laughs. They also do not show any respect for people more intelligent than they are, in a word; they are ne'er-do-wells. So in that respect I agree with David.
However, there is an obvious North-South divide in the UK. I wish this wasn't so but there is. And people north of it seem to have a harder time of life than people south of it. But it makes me glad that you seem to be working hard to better yourself and change your lifestyle, David. I would just cut out the racism, use less cuss-words when they really aren't appropriate and take more care with the posting (spelling and grammar wise). I know it's only a forum for people who fly internet spaceships but it really does matter.
I have met some people I would describe as Chavs, but they have been lovely people. It is the same for every 'group' of people, some nice and some...not so.
Right, now onto the government. I am not an 'anti-government' person, but I do fear that ours in the UK is flawed in two fundamental ways.
1. The 'nanny-state'. We seem to have an obsession with 'security' and feeling 'safe'. BUT, there is a limit! I fear for the day when everything we say and do is monitored. Not only in the cities but in the country as well, I'm talking everywhere by the way as I know someone will say that that day is already here. I know that it is to an extent, but it can always be taken to another extreme and another level.
2. The popular votes policies. This is essentially paralising our own government from making any good long-term plans or goals as the current party in power is always looking for vote-winning policies to maintain their elected status. The system needs a total re-think but no one will do it, much like the NHS will never 'work' properly as people will much rather tinker than tear something down and start anew. It's much more financially viable that way.
Oh, and by the way. This is NOT an alt, and I am only 18 and currently at Uni studying Marine Biology. These are my thoughts.
Thanks for reading. Merry Christmas (I'm also not very PC)
