I am not talking politics here as much as social issues but,
I lived in the UK when I was young my father was doing his studies at university over their at that time. I have also went back and forth for quite some time then stopped during my college years.
I just came back from London on a business trip, and wow, so many cameras, so many new laws, crimes of stabbing on the TV, hell I saw kids showing of their MG42 on the TV!!!. Gang wars in the UK!!
Let alone rights like not able to smoke any where in the airport not even a smoking room in the entire Heathrow airport!!
And I come from a Middle Eastern country, with a dictatorship regime ffs!!.
This scares me b/c the only glimmer of hope we had was looking at the west for civil liberties issues and now I just donÆt understand how did the people let this happen?!

IMO
When it became apparent that the war against drugs was lost (round about the same time as 9/11 and 7/7) the goverment decided it was time for a full retreat of all forces. Police have been taken off the streets and replaced with special constables, this is basicly a normal citizen with no powers of arrest and no warrent card...wait theres more...they do have something and thats a direct line to the emergency services because phoning 999 is pretty much useless "belive me",in the last 5 years i have reported 3 crimes and one fire (in my own back garden set by the local youths) none even the fire recived a response. It seems to be that everyone is on or has tried drugs now(oh how harmless is pot really, have you seen the state of the local hoodies, better still tried to talk to them). So whats happened to the local bobby hes trapped in beaurocrasy behind his desk, like the rest of uk social services finding new ways to hit their targets without actually doing anything.

OK, I don't like in the UK and I've never been there, but if the cops don't give a ****, why can't you just beat the hoodlums senseless with a crowbar or a bat or something? (in the US we use guns, but that's here and not there) If the cops don't give a **** about you they're surely not going to a **** about some miscreant. --- |

Not sure and correct me if I am wrong,
But in the UK if you kill some one who assaults you house you will be trailed for murder.

Because most street crimes are committed by prepubescent teens that roam in gangs and the cosequences of fighting back have been made clear with death and a small pic of you in the paper branding you as a have-a-go-hero and how everyone should feel sorry for your kids.

It's not that they don't care but it's simpler for the police to go after law abiding citizens so if you actually do anything then you're screwed. See, if you arrest a chav then you can't do anything with them, they don't tell you anything, get violent and the rest of their pack are the same. If you manage to find where they live then you're walking into deep trouble because they all have an instinctive violent hatred for the police. This isn't only the kids, the adults are just as bad but bigger and stronger. They live in maze-like nests sometimes upto a thousand strong and interbreeding is commonplace. They are an infestation, locusts gnawing at the structure of the country who can't be reasoned with. They flaunt laws because frankly they aren't smart enough to understand such abstract concepts as "Right and wrong" or "Ownership". They should just be put out of their misery to be honest.
As such, it is impossible for the police to deal with them. Human beings however can be dealt with and for some reason it's a serious offence to try to do anything to these vermin and you will be punished. So nobody does anything and the problem grows.

*rant warning* - sorry -
Well if you had been in the school system here from around 1970's you would have been fed a constant supply of leftist socialism mixed up with bizarre white angst about what the UK did to the rest of the world, women, and [insert ethnic -sic- minority group] in the last 1000 years.
Around the same time the same sort of people running the school system got control of local government, and certain central government and quango type bodies. Where they started implementing their views into what's now our current status quo.
What you see here now is 30 years of dedicated undermining of our society through a string of failed policies (multicultural Briton and the Human rights act being my current favorite) that the majority of the UK population never voted for. Like most other democratic -sic- societies, the government get in on a majority of the minority voting.
Naturally a lot of people seem to have missed this as they've been very focused on buying into a consumer society while all this was going on. Must have my SKY+, must have a bread maker, must have a steam powered paint stripper, must have a BMW M3 convertible, must have.. a record or TV contract..
We've also been force fed the cult of the celebrity for pretty much the last 15 years solid too.
I was born in London, lived there for 30 years, and am very happy that I moved to the country but in hind-sight I've realized I didn't move far enough, and, sadly, that's one of the reasons why the changes have happened. The people who've seen what's gone on don't feel we can fight back. So we leave.. to France, to Spain, to the states, Canada, Australia, frankly anywhere but here.
-rant over- It's possibly not as bad as I make out but sometimes it feels like it's worse too.

No, Special Constables (In Scotland anyway, i don't think it would be different in England / Wales / Northern Ireland, but i may be wrong) In Scotland SC's have full police powers, we ARE fully fledged Police Officers, we just do it for free.

Thats because we're turning into a nation of wannabe gangsters, and most of our kids know the police as the "LAPD" as a result of listening to too much rap.
AND on top of that, the police have to fill in a small holy books worth of paperwork to be able to leave the station.

Well regarding teenagers and stabbings, I can attribute it to bad parents, social corruption or which seems most apparent here is a broken law system.
I donÆt think people are better than other people based on their religion, ethnicity, or country of origin. But its wise rules that should govern the people not a cookie cutter system.
I do not agree with many of the rules in hard core conservative countries like Saudi Arabia, but to some extent thy work. I am pretty sure you can leave a Million USD$ in plain site in a mall in Jeddah and no one will touch it. Is it b/c they are better people ?! I donÆt think so, its just that you will be carrying your hand in a frame if you do so. Quick simple it works and saves a crap load of tax payers money on the 5 star resorts you call prisons.
And about those ChavÆs issue, we had a similar issue in the late 80s, where a large foreign group decided to create a sub government, with their own rules, own courts, and tax system even. So we called in a Special Forces division and used air strikes. It never happened again.
We have a very high ratio of assault rifles per person here, the last shooting happened 3 years ago, and the one before it was 6 years ago, all of which where publicly executed by firing squad. I think itÆs a low number b/c of good understanding of discipline with firearms, since we donÆt get gym in High school, but we get military training 1 day per week and a 1.5 months during your summer vacation and you get paid for it as well
Zero tolerance on drugs, dealers get a death sentence, users get 10 years + rehab. And it works.

I blame the news.
No, seriously, I do. Our media right now has this fascination with massively blowing a few select little things out of proportion.
You know what's the second most common factor in British murders? Gambling. People rack up huge debts with loan sharks who then have to save face when they can't get the money back because the idiot they gave it to lost it all on gambling. Sounds like a movie, happens on an alarmingly regular basis... and doesn't get covered in the news at all.
If you go by our news, the only three things that matter right now are recession, "Baby P", and knife crime (oh, and strictly come dancing and X factor). A few years ago, it was terrorism, Madeleine McCann and Jean Charles de Menezes.
The media picks up on things like that, massively inflate their importance (okay, so yeah the de Menezes case was pretty important) and the result is a weigh of massively uninformed public opinion pressuring to government to act and act now.
The result is rushed decision-making in parliament, leading to unwise laws and legislation that are just going to snowball into another problem five or six years down the line.
Wonderfully, it's all reflected in a growing cultural paranoia. the British people are simultaneously clamouring for their government to "fix" every last little hiccup in the country, and screaming in outrage at the first whiff of anything even remotely Orwellian.
Ever tried herding cats? Try herding schizophrenic ones and you might come close to the task facing the poor bastards who have to try and run this country.
but: I like the smoking bans. Those were, IMO, a damned fine idea. The air smells cleaner, more people have quit smoking, less people have started, less people are having asthma attacks or developing chest infections from breathing somebody else's smoke...
People have been screaming about "freedom", but the irony is that, because of the smoking bans, I'm freer now than I used to be, because I can go out without getting a face full of somebody's horrible cigarette smoke every thirty seconds. And the same is true for the overwhelming majority of the people in this country who don't smoke.
So you've lost the right to kill yourself slowly in public. Big deal - fifty million of us have gained the right to breathe cleaner air. Fair trade, IMO. -

First I donÆt smoke, my business partner dose though, I quit quite some time ago and donÆt like the smell of it.
But for me I see it from a different view, first its smoking though new research in passive smoking says the first tests where unscientific and hugely pushed out of proportion. ThatÆs on the health side.
Now I also donÆt drink, if itÆs a matter of convenience, I donÆt like the smell of it as well, nor how people react when they are under the à.(you see where I am going). I also donÆt like car fumes which studies have showed have a much harder hitting effect than Actual smoking. Also junk food yes junk food that will prolly be the next big killer after smoking and of the shelf drugs. You know what they say that vitamins also shorten your life span so ban fruits as well.
Take off your clothes and shoes, walk on the red line in a single fold, and drop your liquid in the red bag, do not smoke, drive, you have been randomly selected for a search. But hay we cant do any thing about 2 14 year olds stabbing each other to death in the middle of the street.

If you want to do something about it, go join the political party that you most agree with and try and do something about it. Feral/thuggish children have been a constant problem in Britain since the Second World War. There is pretty much no solution that adds on to what we have now. Getting more police on the streets, reducing the powers of the quango regime in local councils and generally giving Britain a good kicking should be priorities for the Home Office.
Of course, this won't happen because everybody in the Labour party is running around in Panic mode. And everybody is going to vote for yet another sideways-moving Conservative government. ________________________________________________

Widowmaker, the point I was making is that inconvenience for the minority only happens at the profit of the majority. That's democracy.
If the majority perceive themselves as being inconvenienced, they vote against. If the majority stand to profit, they vote for. It's a pretty simple equation, really - one that does not automatically add up to George Orwell. -

When did we vote to give banks a huge chunk of tax money? When did we vote to extend pre-charge detention to 42 days? When did we vote to sell all of Britain's gold at the lowest possible price? In fact, when did we vote for El Gordo to be our PM? ____________________

this to be honest, when did you vote for the war on Iraq, or the smoking ban?
You donÆt vote for what you want, you vote for a Person that promises you what you want. And thatÆs the BEST case.
Is that really democracy? I donÆt know really, they do have some Polls to see what the people think about a subject, but I am pretty sure no one here got that, or evin understand how that works.
This whole WMD thing in Iraq for example looking at it without Any political input, was done in plain sight, and they laugh about it and no one will go to jail over it, many counties that went to that war where democratic, but I have yet to see any of the people say it was a good idea.

research "new world order" and you will get a picture for yourself why all the stupid cameras are being put up. I see it as a future investment for the powers in place. They wanna be in total control the day the public awakes. 9/11 was an inside job and that has speeded up the process, they want you to be a slave and shut up. enjoy 1984. Without the "false flag terrorism" the power could not get the citizens to "demand" all the ****ing fake "security". Dont fear your neigbour, fear your government.

as the old puppetmaster explains the big lie used as a political tool. This is more relevant than ever, we are being treated as cattle, and the fight is for our mind. www.infowars.com
... in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. ùAdolf ****** , Mein Kampf, vol. Most of Britains problems can be put down to a single group.
Chavs.
They are violant inbreds who sponge off the state, steal anything they can, attack for no reason, rip apart public and private property and only ever seem to get a slap on the wrist for it.
It also doesnt help that the do gooders have turned prisons into holiday camps and forever bang on about thier human rights while ignoring the fact that who they defend dont give a crap about anyone or anything.
Its crazy, I work in securty and if the building or someone is attacked I have been told to record it on CCTV but NOT get involved in case my company gets sued by the attacker or I get arrested for assault... All of these do gooders are turning what was once the worlds only superpower into a nation of spineless carebears and brainless savages.

If The Sun could only think of a catchy rhyming name for it, it'd be all over the front pages.
Something like "Happy Slapping", that even stupid people could remember.
Welp, I'm looking out my window here and I still don't see fires or looting.

All of these do gooders are turning what was once the worlds only superpower into a nation of spineless carebears and brainless savages.
what is "chavs"?

Take away the drugs and you're still left with the same people, probably more angry because they have nothing to make them less-so. Really drugs won't change a person unless they become addicted. Originally by: Vistilantus You're probably thinking of PCSO's who have some, but little, police powers. (PCSO's cannot arrest)
Not quite true. They have the power of citizens arrest the same as we security officers have. Not that it ever amounts to much, we can only hold them for a certain amount of time and with little or no backup from regular police officers, it's often the case that we have to let them go. It makes a mockery of shoplifting laws since no backup means the shoplifters most often get away with it.
From my experience in areas all over the UK, the police are more concerned with the serious crimes like driving a car. While you can't get a response to a 999 call when someone is threatening you and your collegues with a pick axe handle outside your gatehouse, police officers are quick to pull up a car driver with two patrol cars 500 yards down the road because they believe he may not have tax on the car. More outrageous was the fact that the car they pulled up was our mobile patrol coming to give us some backup. The two police patrols went off after verifying his tax disk was OK and we never did see any police respond to our 999 call.

Why is everyone against telling the truth about what **** hole of a state the UK is is?
The media constantly lies to the English to the point some small towns in the UK are compleaty oblivious to the **** hole they are.
Some English people don't even realize what worthless brain dead useless s****they are. ^ in fact that is one of the biggest problems right there due to lack of media coverage of our European brothers, the English have no clue how completely out of touch with the modern world they are.

I am of two minds on this problem, it appears from word of mouth and media to be a problem over much of the country, but around where I live I have never heard of a stabbing or even much crime beyond what the banks charge...

To be fair you live with those scots and come from a VERY nice country with a damn good educational facility with you.
The English aren't so lucky and any attempt to help them it met with more crap.
What those Chav idiot`s don't realize is just because they have been to school, does not mean there educated.
That why i wanted to go with Fab Lab
The current English generation no NOTHING of the corporate world, economics, or corporate thinking.
Add a lack of creativity and freedom of expression all they have left is to drinking and get 10 year old girls pregnant.
That right there is KILLING small towns and rural areas.

No. This might be a difficult thing for you to comprehend, but this country isn't actually that bad. Free education, free healthcare, hot and cold running water, well maintained infrastructure, every material item you need is one trip down the shops away, the list goes on. Yes, we have problems but so does every ****ing country on Earth. ____________________

In fact can we do this anyway

Agreed and most European country`s have those amenities.
But if you leave to a country like Finland (were there are least people) and was to open a fab lab, add a small town or village go with a dedicated to intelligence slogan and campaign, you get yourself another silicone valley.
England HAS the potential to do this. BUT its the drive to why you would waste your time helping them, when they will not respect or even understand the help and why its there,
England has the potential its right there, but its the English people them selfs which are letting this down.
The small towns Anti intellectual way of thinking is what is killing there small towns.. in terms of jobs etc. the idiots are actually destroying there own futures.

Dave, if you can figure out how to put that fence up I'm moving back to Primrose Hill and booking my daughter a place at Channing.
Reaperofsly's quite correct about the infrastructure here and problems elsewhere. It's just so difficult to compare places as 'quality of life' is so subjective.

Well this thread is certainly going happy places isn't it?
As I've already said in this thread I have my complaints with the way the United Kingdom is these days but it can be fixed, It'll be hard to do and the work hasn't started yet but nothing is ever too far gone.
There are some absolute nut-cases in here though..which is frankly quite scary.

I'll tell you what happened:
- even before people like you noticed that something was wrong, nice people like me stopped wanting to visit the UK because it was turning into a surveillance state and Tony Blair had turned into a right-wing fundamentalist (which was amazing, because I was in the UK when he was everyone's liberal/left-ish hope like Obama is now)
- in the end, Bin Laden won ... because fear is the mind killer, remember?

Because the WW2 era of thinking it over. And that means chain of command. You listened to police. You listened to teachers. You listened to your boss. You listened to your parents. No questions asked. If you broke the order you got in trouble.
Today, it's more of a "why do I have to do this?" line of thinking. You are a drunkard causing a disturbance in a public place? It's ok, police can't touch you unless you attack them or another person or property, if the police taser you or tackles you, you have civil rights groups waiting to attack the police on your behalf. Teachers can't touch you, if they do they lose their job. You are a "special needs" child, enjoy your attention. You can't be fired unless you display gross incompetence or break the law (theft) if you are a minority or woman, you have people willing to fight for your more-then-equal-rights, regardless of if you deserved to be fired or not. Parents can't touch you anymore. Spanking a child is child abuse, punish them too much and you are an unfit parent.
Western Society has gone soft. And this won't change any time soon because no one wants to make changes, we signed our own death warrant when we let bleeding hearts and minorities run the country.
Have a Merry Christmas...

Forgive me if somebody has already said something like this, but I'm really rather angry.
Most people that see something wrong with the country are quick to blame my generation, which is great, isn't it? 90% of us are good people, doing absolutely nothing wrong, but we can't walk the streets without getting suspicious stares, because of a tiny minority of people that generally act like idiots? I don't want to sound crude here, but get it into your f*cking heads people, most people are fine. If you keep fixating on the minority of idiots, they'll revel in the attention, and get even worse.

Edited by: Zantrei Kordisin on 25/12/2008 00:30:53 The Polish workers around my area from my experience have always been absurdly hard working, never causing any trouble. In general, the UK is still pretty well off compared to other countries, it is as others are saying, the media taking things out of all proportion.
The foreign workers in the UK aren't an issue. Immigration is not an issue. The only people that actually think this are people that read The Sun and The Daily Star far too much. The biggest problem if you ask me, is the number of people sat around claiming benefits, job seekers allowance and spending five years on disability after bruising their knee. These also happen to be the same people who complain about foreign workers 'taking all the jobs', which is rediculous. The reason why these people can't get jobs? They can't be bothered. They don't try, and when they do, they have **** all to offer. It's their own fault, plain and simple. And the reason why economic migrants have become an issue? It gives these idiots what they believe to be valid excuses to carry on sitting around living off the state.
We should have a system that allows for a maximum of 5 years job seekers/unemployment benefits total in a person's lifetime, mush harsher restrictions and checkups for those who want disability living allowance, make it a requirement for those on unemployment to be doing courses at a local college or whatever to give them something to offer. And make the benefits reliant on both evidence that a job is being looked for, and that satisfactory effort is being made in the educational programs.
Nothing like a good rant, eh? Still, I'm very liberal in most of my views, pro-EU, pro-euro, pro-gay rights, anti-war and so on, but I just can't stand these idiots that sit around claiming cash from the government going 'but it's the poles the poles are taking all our jobs it's not the fact that I'm an unreliable, uneducated, inexperienced, incompetent moron I swear, it's the poles, that's what the daily star said'. Kick the bastards out on the streets until they are willing to put some effort in, that's what I say. _________________________________________________________

The media is a business. What news sells? It sure as heck isn't, "George, a 20 year veteran of the pub The Bird in Hand, has finally paid off his 220 pound tab! Yay George".
Shocking news gets attention. Hence, those sort of stories get run. And around and around it goes.

I thought that I'd better weigh in here:
I live in SW England on the border of Wales, in a small village but 2 miles from a small-ish town. Now this town in question has deteriorated in the past few years; not in the buildings, not in the services, but in the people. Gone are the times you could walk down the street without wishing that you didn't bump into somebody.
I do not understand this fixation with wanting to appear 'hard', walking as such and dressing like a Chav. And the underlieing (spelling) problem here, as far as I understand it, is stereotypes. The local youth actually aspire to being in a sterotypic group, and I'm sure it is more widespread than an area in the Forest of Dean. If they are not part of a stereotype, they are branded a loner and an outcast whom people insult for laughs. They also do not show any respect for people more intelligent than they are, in a word; they are ne'er-do-wells. So in that respect I agree with David.
However, there is an obvious North-South divide in the UK. I wish this wasn't so but there is. And people north of it seem to have a harder time of life than people south of it. But it makes me glad that you seem to be working hard to better yourself and change your lifestyle, David. I would just cut out the racism, use less cuss-words when they really aren't appropriate and take more care with the posting (spelling and grammar wise). I know it's only a forum for people who fly internet spaceships but it really does matter.
I have met some people I would describe as Chavs, but they have been lovely people. It is the same for every 'group' of people, some nice and some...not so.
Right, now onto the government. I am not an 'anti-government' person, but I do fear that ours in the UK is flawed in two fundamental ways.
1. The 'nanny-state'. We seem to have an obsession with 'security' and feeling 'safe'. BUT, there is a limit! I fear for the day when everything we say and do is monitored. Not only in the cities but in the country as well, I'm talking everywhere by the way as I know someone will say that that day is already here. I know that it is to an extent, but it can always be taken to another extreme and another level.
2. The popular votes policies. This is essentially paralising our own government from making any good long-term plans or goals as the current party in power is always looking for vote-winning policies to maintain their elected status. The system needs a total re-think but no one will do it, much like the NHS will never 'work' properly as people will much rather tinker than tear something down and start anew. It's much more financially viable that way.
Oh, and by the way. This is NOT an alt, and I am only 18 and currently at Uni studying Marine Biology. These are my thoughts.
Thanks for reading. Merry Christmas (I'm also not very PC)

Civilised? I hope you're not referring to the UK
I'd disagree, there are a lot of big minds but they tend to herd together like sheep which leads to laws that justify and reward ciminality while condemning the victims. Also, taxes that mean the lowest paid have to cover the shortfalls created by the loopholes that allow higher paid people to avoid paying it. I sincerely doubt that public opinion has anything to do with this as most are mortified at it.
The real problem lies in the fact that the Brits won't stand up and be counted. They refuse to be among the people who say to the government that 'enough is enough'. For that reason alone, the government stomp all over the Brits and get away with it, taxing them into oblivion and taking away every right they ever had to a resonable standard of living.
Our only bill of rights is the Magna Carta which has been slowly eroded away over time. Notice how many changes there have been to the rules that it contained. These were supposed to be hard and fast rules that could never be changed. One that has not been rescinded, I would hasten to add, is that "We shall not be unfairly taxed on our income". Whether is it income tax or VAT or even Council Tax, it is coming out of your income at some stage since your income is what you still have in your pocket after income tax as well. Think about it.
I have no doubt the Brits will go back to bending over for the government to shaft them even more, damn weeners. I'll be glad to leave this country to rot in the hell hole the government is creating for it.

The sheep my friend love to be herded. My son, who is on the lowest taxation scale pays 30% tax, while some rich **** pays 15, if not less and Madonna pays nothing. Unfortunately my son is also a sheep and believes that the UK is the end all and be all of existence and while I love him I have no pity for him, his woes and whatever he gets. We have offered, many a time, to pay for him to leave that hole but he continuously refuses. For how long can you convince someone not to jump off the roof? I reached my patience end and told him if that's what he wants, then that's what he can have. He knows I love him but he also knows I won't help him out when the country finally collapses and or things go terribly wrong for him. It's harsh but he won't listen and thinks he knows best.
That is the real power of indoctrination, the fact that the Brits still think Britannia rules the waves and that all bow to the will of the English, while being oblivious and blind to the simple, and tragic, truth: they are cattle, nothing more.

And too many weak people in England who won't stand up to them.
I've noticed this trait at work. Everyone makes noises and if you try to get something done, they all scurry back to their holes leaving you to face the company alone. Not one of them has the common sense to realise that the company can't sack the entire workforce if they stand together.
It's what I have come to understand. Too much "I" and not enough "We" means that everyone thinks only of themselves which is why nothing gets done about the probems created by the government.
Elections mean nothing here it done more for tradition than anything else now. The Labour party who were created by the working man to help the workers are now just as Conservative as the Conservatives are. Just remember that the Chief Whip who gives the information to the PM is the same Civil Servant no matter who is in power. As we all know, anyone feeding information can dictate which direction they want things to go by providing more information about one thing but leaving out another. So it's really the Chief Whip who makes policy, not the PM since the PM can only act on what information he is given.

Because a lot of us Brits have a "mustn't rock the boat" attitude. We grumble about it down the pub with our mates, but would never dream of doing anything about it.
Well, what can you do? Take your mates and go stand in a corner with some signs? Or you can vote for another party who will be exactly the same as the one you have now. Good luck to you...
People have to realize they actually dont have the power to prevent people in power from doing what they want.

It's people with that attitude that got the UK in the state it's in now. It's people who think they don't have the power because they are thinking solo player style who allow the government to walk all over them. Just because they are in power means nothing. You already know from playing Eve that teamwork makes it happen and when (if ever) the Brits start to work together as a team, they will force the government to back down.
Just like in this game. BOB may be all powerful against other alliances but if the entire population of eve not in their alliance were to go after them at once, BOB would fall. It's about as unlikely to happen as Brits standing together though.

Its just plain facts. Maybe you could have a revolution in the 17:th century but getting one these days will never happen. People will whine and moan, but in the end they will accept whatever changes are coming.
When the police starts killing random civilians out in the open, then maybe people will react. Before that, I believe people will always think about themselfs, their family, their jobs, careers, comfort and so on first and do nothing that puts that at risk.
People are only dangerous when they have nothing to lose, and in the UK and the US, people still have plenty to lose.
Your comparison to Eve doesnt hold water. Players risk nothing real here.

Reading this thread brings a smile to my face. You people have no idea how happy I am not to be living in a country where every 10 year old is desperately trying to get pregnant, where 14 year olds are dying of AIDS and in which if you haven't had a baby or at least been pregnant three times by the age of 16 you're a social outcast, a country that is a dictatorships (with the leftist party being even more right-wing than the '****'s') and a country that is just as oppressive as Burma, while cloaking itself in pretty colours. Do I miss the UK? OH yes, I miss living in a country poorer than Uganda and just as extreme as Saudi Arabia.
To all those who love living in the UK: enjoy your debts, economic woes and getting beaten up by your kids. Time to play EVE, bye thread.

Although White British is a race if i am not mistaken?
that is who i am referring to,
we are absolutely similar, black white yellow brown etc. the difference in outside appearance like skincolor has various other reasons.. we are totally similar.. probably more similar than some people would want to realize..
where we differ is in culture and attitude.. i personally hate 98% of the worlds culture and attitude and think it's primitive degenerative and just plain annoying and unintelligent, but that's because it's made that way rather than developed naturally, same as most things in our society as it were..
98% of the world are doing it wrong, including the british, with their opposite-just-to-be-british attitude and their idiotic habits, attitude towards people, themselves and "their" queen. and the sooner they realize it and stop defending it, the sooner we can cut the bull**** and build a world worthwhile.
the world contains a bunch of savages and barbarians, idiots who believe in the lie of darwinism which robbed them of the portal to themselves and removed any benevolent future aspirations and replaced it with a fools cyborg dream or having machines to fix things or whatever.. a malfunctioning degenerate civilization of barbarians and thugs who does not even grasp the fundamentals of their own bodies yet proclaim they are nothing but animals.. and uses it as excuse to justify contempt and stupid actions.. they believe in science who has failed this world with its chemical poisons that poisons the body in an attempt to cure it rather than reinforce and allowing the body to clear it by supporting it in its natural processes.. not to mention a lack of morale and understanding in general, breaking the perfect structure of things and replacing it with more problems they try to fix as the rummage around with big words and lofty expectations like an elephant in a glass store.. you cannot create perfect like the maker, stop making a mess of things.
even the universe and galaxy has pre programmed cycles of destruction and creation like the ouroboros eating its own tail which plato alluded to.. and they have interdependence where the sun is the prime controller of a system and where this structure is repeated ad infinitum, a pattern denotes intelligence, the most sublime intelligence of all. that ought to be a clue yet it is not apparent for the religious people nor is it for the unbelievers.
not to mention the religious institutions who wouldn't know themselves or the meaning of the texts they keep if it hit them smack in the face, and are in their absolute stupidity and arrogance partially responsible for people parting from their deluded interpretations and doctrines and accepting idiotic beliefs such as atheism and darwinism instead..
repent of your sins, repent to yourself.. not to some stupid socalled holy man.. forgive yourself through setting things right, and regain your aspirations and the portal to yourself, that is your only salvation.
untill you do you will live your lives and die, build your culture and treat eachother, as the animals you think you are. denying your true aspirations.
stop bickering about "race" you stupid blind idiot, quit being part of the f'ing problem and you might find your salvation from the path to evil.

so instead of being proud of a global culture of mistakes and dead end traditions, standing on your bully pulpits being taking pride in your past mistakes, using them to elevate yourself about others, rather than correcting them.
instead it is time to use the errors of a past as a lesson in how not to do it, and to apply these lessons of what not to do in order to embrace a future of a transformation of a culture without mistakes, without silly monstrous creations, and forming a culture and a society and a civilization with purpose with compassion, with understanding and with peace.

Originally by: Arianhod Well you have praised Scotland a few times.
Smart people get paid well.
Housing is expansive here.
But not Aberdeen. I am currently moving away from here, the drink culture that Scotland has earned itself is way out of control here. I've seen more people so drunk that they can't even stand up here on a Friday night than I've seen in the rest of the UK put together on a Friday night. Most of the girls you'll meet here would be too drunk to even know what science is.
There's also a problem with drugs too but it's something that's becoming more common across the UK due to do gooders insisting the government give them free methadone etc. If it were me, I'd lace it with cyanide and get rid of the problem for good.
Also, Aberdeen has the highest Council Tax in the whole of the UK. I have a 2 bed council flat and I pay almost as much in Council Tax as I do in rent per year and it's only a Band A flat.
Smart people work offshore here so they can avoid paying tax, they don't get paid particularly well, they just pay far less tax.
Where in the UK is any housing not expensive? Forget first time buying if you're on minimum wage now, you might just be able to afford someone's garden shed with your partners wage added to yours.
Don't get me wrong. Scotland is a really beautiful place providing you don't mind the cold. I love the countryside and scenery, it's breathtaking. While I had the car, I used to love driving up North to my friends in Inverurie or even Buckie just to look at the scenery on the way. But just like the rest of the UK, it's just too damned expensive to live here and much like the rest of the UK, the wages for my job (security) don't cut it and to do enough hours to make it possible to live on my wage means absolutely no life.
I'm off back down south after the new year. The wages are still bad, the prices are still high but at least I can save a bit by not having to keep the heating on all year round. I have not turned it off since I moved to this flat in January. If I could earn 50% more, I would be able to live here permanently but not on my present wage.

Yes i am because there are a lot worse off places you could live. I enjoy living in the UK, things that people complain about in this thread have not ever effected me (the joys of london). All i see are a lot of drama queens in here, instead of *****ing about it why dont u get involved in politics and try and make a difference huh?.
Every country in Europe and the Western world sufferes from major problems, gun crime, racial tensions etc, you will find this out once you actually go to live somewhere else, the only reason people leave the UK are A) their filthy tax dodgers ( who still like to use the NHS and everything else the normal man pays for), or B) want warmer weather.
Children have always smoked or drank underage, people have always got overly drunk, its just more covered now because of zelot groups and it was media flavour of the month, now as in the case of stabbings and gun crime ( new media fav, wont be long before they move on) this has been going on for ages, no one knew because the media did not care.

Sweetcakes, if I was to say what I was actually thinking, I'd get banned.
Look, I'm prepared to believe that you're moderately intelligent in abstract subjects like maths. But from what I've seen of you in this forum, that's the limit. You can't construct an argument, you don't understand logic very well at all, and your "social intelligence" is non-existent. If you go around telling everyone what a genius you are and what a lowlife chavs****moron they are for not falling to their knees in gratitude for the chance to perceive Your Holy Radiance, then for damb sure you'll be persecuted. It's nothing to do with your living in a "**** country", and everything to do with you having the personality of a baboon. People from all over the world post on this forum, and I haven't noticed a single person commenting on your evident genius other than yourself. You might want to consider that evidence.
Until such time as you can find the country that is waiting for and will recognise you as it's messiah, I suggest you get over yourself. Your life will be far more pleasant if you stop whining to all and sundry about how you, at age 18? 19? aren't treated as the man-god you think yourself to be.

Edited by: Dr Slaughter on 28/12/2008 11:18:09 Ilkley. Great place. Spent much of my childhood holidays running around that moor or traveling futher up the dales. Was confused with the option to use Euro's at White Wells the last time I visited it but.. I suggested that the only thing I would buy from them with Euro's was some Lancashire Tea.
With regards Genius, I think it's common scense that's the important bit and it's a crying shame that such a fantastically beautiful country has been let down so badly by the people running it (who because we don't have proportional representation (thank god, well, in-theory) are entrusted by us to run it properly). If the UK's status-quo actually had some common scense and applied it... well it might be a lot better.

Half the problem comes from the people at the top who can't think past their own wallets. While those who work for them get meagre handouts that are nowhere near inflationary figures, those at the top are giving themselves 30% or more and then saying that the company can't afford to keep some of the workforce. Amazingly, they manage to find this out around Christmas and I know of quite a few who got a redundancy letter as a christmas gift from their bosses. It seems that we have to constantly tighten our belts further to allow the company to survive while the fat cats become even more wealthy than they were last year.
Not only company bosses but also government officials are awarding themselves 30% pay rises. If they need so much more to live on, what the hell do they expect the low paid workers to live on? 30% of 100K is 30K or 2500 per week and the workers get a meagre 3% of 15K which equates to 450 or 37.50 per week. Their pay rises alone are equal to 2 workers wages for the year.
I'm not against them getting a pay rise as their standard of living is much higher but let's face it, there is such a thing as double standards. If it's costing them 30% more to live, it's costing the low paid workers at least 30% more too.
On top of this, the authority's misuse of public funds and constant waste of public money means we get lumbered with a tax rise on top of the excessive inflation. Just affording to live on a low income now has never been so hard since the depression of the 30's and it doesn't look to be getting any better.

I see your point, its a shame really that the social outcome of all this is a degraded and disregarded society, to the point that neighbours have little to no conversation.
and the feeling of not fitting in and loneliness has risen in the UK.
Out of interest how would you support or improve on somebody's standard of living?
One idea i came up with is this.
Fab labs would be a great bonus to small towns and villages, it gives the kids and teenagers something other to do then drinking and causing anti social behavior in there spare time. While increasing the education and well being of local residents.
I really should ***** to somebody higher up to get something like this pushed, all it requires is a small factory one of payments of machines and a maintenance cost per year.
and the next logical step after that, is to turn a empty bit of land into a race circuit and use the fab lab as a mechanics workshop. (and before the nanny state even says ANYTHING there is nothing wrong with a bunch of blokes getting there hands dirty and doing up an old car to race with - this needs to be encouraged but for the love of god something better then a NOVA, i have nothing against a scubby though )
so instead of boy racers ripping up streets, they could be ripping up a circuit and earn money for it as well as future job prospects.
but meh thats just another idea.. or another use for a fab lab (i can think of tons)
Seriously if i had to speak to a goverment Representative about how practical and useful a fab lab would be the my local area, i could pull it off easy. i would have them eating out of my hand lol.
These things are better then fried bread.

And was you ever called a genius or socially excluded for your intelligence? or is that just me
Modesty forbids.
and you actually think i am bull****ting don't you? i wish i was
Sweetcakes, if I was to say what I was actually thinking, I'd get banned.
Well to be fair if you do lurk on these forums, then you would know i wasn't calling myself a genius, i was called a genius by my peers and elders. those people i should be looking up to right?
Thats why i have my huge dislike for the English. Shouldn't people lead by example? or atleast set an example of acceptable things within a society?

Originate: Somalia. The biggest ****hole on the planet. Fact. Currently: Cardiff, South Wales.
Believe me, there is no way the UK is such a trashhole as you claim it to be. Or anyone does, yes, things are bad. But believe me, here in Britain we get things so much easier/better than other nations do. You'd be surprised.

For a start: 1. Set-up a small business bank run by the government with the specific purpose of lending to SMB to support their expansion and cash flow. Have it compete directly and agressively with the banks who won't lend us the money we just gave them. 2. Write off 2007-2009 Corporation Tax for companies with less than 100 staff. 3. Forget to re-introduce income tax in April but possibly remember again in April 2012 or so. 4. Get consumer energy business up and running in the UK. Just like the Germans have done with Solar and try to get all our energy costs down.
Now that Government doesn't have any cash it needs to make some quick...
5. Possibly leave the EU but structure some sort of deal under article 3. 6. Introduce the death penalty for various crimes including FRAUD. 7. Any non-EU Citizen who need NHS treatment, must pay for it with a valid insurance policy. If they can't pay they're stabalized and returned to their home country (for free) but with their passport stamped for no-return for some arbitarirly large number of years (let's say 15). 8. 2 months unemployement benefit. Then you get a job or starve. 9. Local Council / Highways / other infra-structure 'work gang' jobs provided for anyone who's starving. 10. Get rid of our Nuclear deterant. It costs a fortune and we can't use it without US approval in anycase, and if they don't mind us using it you can pretty much be sure they would be using theirs anyway. 11. Reduce all civil servant salaries over ú100k to ú60k plus upto ú40k bonus (remember there's no income tax anymore) starting 2010, so they have 1 year to de-leverage their private schooling/houses/flash cars and get back to serving the people rather than their own pockets.
Totally mad I know.
