The Holoreel is quite an amusing show of what some of us have been saying for quite some time.
He burned alive. On Stage. On Gallente Prime.
This is quite the amusing show of political cloak and daggery, even from out here in nullsec space.

Amazing how such disparate peoples and cultures can come together on the decisions that really matter. I agree though, the spectacle in the Federation was disgusting. These things should be left to those appointed to do the work, not passed down for the masses to enact.

I would have been satisfied with a Bullet put into Etturers head, but I have to agree with Foiritan on the handling of the matter. It was not enough to have him killed, it was necessary to have him destroyed.
I am sure there are a few traitors left in the Federation, either symphatizing with Tibus Heth or just for the money like Eturrer, but now they know what personal consequences treason has.

Eww, what a mess. Not a neat application of justice.
I don't like the whole 'tried in absentia with sufficient evidence that the defendant doesn't need to testify' either.
I expect the teenagers will have already made many humorous holo-vid clips to share amongst themselves.

Agreed. Foiritain turned justice into spectacle. He's turned a necessary evil into a circus for the howling mob.
Not his fault, I suppose - If a democracy bays for blood, then those in power have no option but to provide.

This depends on the condition of the Admiral being repentent. High treason is a death sentence whether or not the perpetrator feels shame.

This is the final nail in the coffin of the old Federation. Whatever follows in Foiritan's new legislature will be Gallente only in name, after this open display of violating the nature of a state of law in favour of public relations.
Today I'm glad I left the Federation when I did, for had I remained I fear my brain would already be saturated with this fearmongering rhetoric. -----

I've been a staunch Federation loyalist since I became a capsuleer. I spent many months in the FDU fighting for the Federation but this....this is madness. How could Foiritan stoop to these levels? Granted, this guy is responsible for the deaths of millions and the loss of Caldari Prime but I don't think he deserved to be executed in such a brutal way and in front of millions of Federation citizens no less. I'd expect something like this from the Amarrians but never in the Federation. Death by firing squad or something similar would've sufficed.

Absolutely outrageous. While the ex-Admiral's crimes did merit death, the method is beyond compare in it's barbaric nature. I'm truly devastated by this, shaken to the core. While my allegence will always be to the Federation, the president has lost my vote and I'm seriously considering withdrawing my forces from the militia.
We are better than this.

I find myself surprised at this. I always considered Foiritan to be a bit... spineless. He always gave me the impression of being a mere puppet of powers which he had neither the ability nor the courage to control himself.
I consider myself to be a very good judge of character normally. But from the broadcasts of Eturrer's execution, I could tell that Foiritan meant every single word of his speech... I was so very wrong about him.
People of the Federation have much to fear in the coming months - not from the Caldari, but from their own government and the Black Eagles. Gods help you all...

Edited by: Vincent Pryce on 25/12/2008 19:48:45 This is disturbing indeed, but on the other hand it delivers a clear message - Treason is inacceptable, even in the Federation. And since we are gallente, why not do it with flair to convey the message? For example lighting a living person on fire by the voice of our citizens none the less. I hardly doubt this was the devising of Souro Foiritan, this is so ...uncharasteristic of him. I'd suggest looking over to the direction of Mentas Blaque and the Black Eagles. One can clearly see the discomfort on Foiritans face when the event progresses, not speak when Eturrer bursts in to flames. Still I feel this was a necessary evil, but burning alive... That's... Something I'd expect of the Amarr. I see the reason, but I feel the method was overkill. _________________________________ King for a day, Batman forever...

In deed I fear you may be right that man and Empress Jamyl will cause much strife and horror for my people maybe even try to turn the federation againt the Matari people.

What a barbaric method of entertainment.
I have repeatedly warned my colleagues that the Gallente are as savage and uncouth as any non-civilized Matari. They focus too much on their holoreels and drunken orgies. They know nothing about the importance of proper piety and civil behavior.
This drives home the importance for not only do the Minmatar need guidance, but so does the Gallente.

Now that's democracy. Everyone gets a voice and they all said "Die", not only that but "Die, horribly, in public." Looks like the Gals have balls after all!
Fantastic! We should start doing that to Amarrians, that Jamyl lass, I think her first.

I knew Cy had a good girl in you on her team.
I haven't been watching the holofeeds recently, but when I watched that, I was impressed.
It's good to see the Federation being led by someone who's not afraid to do the dirty work.
But making a show of it also tells me that he knows what's right for the people. Everyone has gotta see and know that the end of a traitor comes rather impressively.

Heres the catch though.
He. Sold. The. Federation. Out. He is the only reason the state has caldari prime again. He doesn't deserve dignity, it is a public display of what happens to people who betray such great trust. A deterrant, if you will, to anyone who'd ever think of doing such a thing again.
Personally? They let him go, too lightly. But thats just from the mind of a sick psychopath who enjoys such kinds of revenge being so cold, or rather in his case, hot. ----

I watched this barbaric event via the Gallente tTlTpTagT but had to turn it off. This is completely barbaric! One injection would have been proper to remove this monster, but this is outrageous and what did the spectators do? Applaud? Had they been gassed before the event, leaving their common sense numb?
Today I am ashamed to be Gallente, there have to be one indepth investigation by one appointed committT on how this could have been arranged and allowed to happen. And I will read the conclusion of the committT with great interest.
Leave no stone unturned!
Is it a new forum rule. That for everyone posting something you don't agree on. You should accuse them of being a troll? ;) |
