Hey all,
Up until recently, I'd been strictly a pvp/mission running pilot. I always just bought what I needed that was reasonably close. I always just sold to whatever the nearest decent sell order was.
A few weeks ago, I finally decided it was actually the industry side of things that I really found interesting. So, having studiously been doing my research and realizing the monumental (to me) sums of startup isk involved in getting my industry plans rolling - I decided to tighten the belt a bit. I started making buy/sell orders for things I needed/wanted to get rid of - and then I started noticing my wallet situation slowly improving.
So I did a bit of research, and placed some buy/sell orders for stuff I didn't actually want, but figured I could make a profit off.
All I can say - wow.
I always knew everyone said that playing the market was the best way to make isk - but I never figured it to be as straightforward as it is, or to be such a monumental difference from the isk/work*time of mission running.
So, just a post to say - y'all had it figured out all along. I'm finally starting to :p

Welcome back. I'm in the same boat. Made my first true market play this afternoon. 50 million down, possible doubling of profit. *crosses fingers*

congrats
Bear in mind that a lot of people are not playing around christmas though so don't be suprised if things get a *little* bit tougher in the coming weeks. It's still by far the best isk/hour though. --------------------------------------

I think I'm being helped in that regard by the fact I chose to start in a rather backwater area, rather than trying to roll with the Jita pros :p ----------------

Same here...
I am getting my feet wet in rig production/market... For now about 50 million are stuck in rigs... Will see if market will consume that! But learned my very first lesson... investigation is the key! Hope the lesson will not cost my wallet!

Indeed. I cut into a million in my profits since I had to change my order. Priced mine far too high above the 'lazinesss' margin.

Yup, it's surprisingly easy. I've not been doing much trading as of late but today I put 1.2b isk onto my market alt... that was at 10am...it's now 15:48 and my "value" now stands at 1.9b \o/. And I ain't even undocked hehe. --

I started playing around with the market 3 or 4 months ago as a way to get rid of loot. Then as a way to pay for modules I needed (buy 4, sell 3 for enough to pay for the forth). A 100K investment has caused me to buy 1.5 billion isk's in the last 30 days to re-supply my market orders and I'm just really getting started!
I played some market PVP this morning in Jita and made a quick 80 million profit off a 30 million investment in an hour. First time I've done it and it worked pretty well. I saw a market anomaly last night before logging off and went back this morning to take advantage of it. Started with 3 people competing and all but one dropped out in minutes. It took a little work, changing prices every few minutes, but not a bad return!
As you get more into trading you will see more ways to make money, and have the resources to do so. Just keep re-investing!

And it really is just that easy. Research being the key and watching the market carefully.
As for xmas, I expected the market to be listless but I'm seeing a lot more activity then I expected. Some areas are selling out (to my glee) and in other areas the buy and sell orders are approaching parity. Still trying to make sense of it (though the more people buy and sell the better we all do).
Since I'm out of the market as of yesterday, has anyone noticed the price drop for standard projectile ammunition in Hemitar? I'd expected a rise during the holidays as more people pew-pew, but suppliers seem to have dropped large quantities for sale, forcing down the price. I haven't managed to figure out how to take advantage of it so I'll throw that bone to the wolves on this forum.
And again, welcome Lui Kai!

A thing to keep in mind is to count your numbers in the possible buy orders you place.
Since comming back after a rather long break with eve, I used my 5 days free pass to catch up on things. For this, I thank the russian who probably broke the rule "Don't drink & trade".
