Edited by: Arianhod on 29/12/2008 21:13:18 A sequel to my previous thread. Parity is upon us people! 1.0229 Euros to the Pound. By the looks of it we will be having 99p to the Euro soon....
Perhaps the tables will rapidly turn when the Eurozones real econemy gets infected, but for the immediate future... it looks like our manufacturing sector may expand to create jobs, a cheap pound is a cheap export into the Eurozone proper.

Holy ****. well **** go figure been in manufacturing may have saved my bacon.
its a shame i don't have the cash, investing in the euro while the sterling takes a hit, and then reinvesting once its over would make somebody a tidy penny.
My bet its get to around 79p to the Euro

On the plus side, tthis may actually be a good thing for the UK in the long run. This counry imports ridiculous amounts of stuff and exports very little. This is not a healthy situation to be in. A weak pound should make it more appealing for companies to either manufacture stuff they need or source locally. Could create a few jobs, and balance out our import:export ratio.
Edit: Oh, and a weak pound makes the UK a cheap holiday destination too. ____________________

UK desperately needs a manufacturing sector boost from what i can tell, this would seem to indicate that such is coming/less service based economy and a more 'real', productive economy taking it's place like we used to have.
Hopefully it'll cut economic leech immigration too and spur a benefits system reform. We need a real economy again, real jobs, not just people sitting in countless offices doing nothing of worth and shuffling money about.

We might see EUR/GBP surge to parity this week, but I think yet another continuation pattern could be forming on the 2h chart which could keep it under 0.9800 for another few days. I am sure the moment there is a transaction at parity the news desks will throw a party, but however probable it is, I will be looking to see whether it holds before getting too excited. Unfortunately in the short term, the location of the floor in the GBP is anyone's guess. Financial services and construction were the government's biggest cash cows, so unless public spending is cut by a corresponding amount in next year's budget (fat chance), it will be borrowing the difference and borrowing to pay the interest, with funding for whatever intervention and stimulus it wants on top. It's like a family playing the credit card balance transfer game after their hours get cut, eventually the creditor says enough is enough and launches the interest rate into orbit.
I think we are looking at continuing devaluation, and then a possible dislocation (ie sterling or gilt crisis) unless the government cuts out this Keynesian nonsense. One point often missed is the recovery following past depressions was preceded by a deflationary credit collapse that destroyed nonproductive and unsustainably geared activity in a virtually unimpeded act of triage; 2000-2008 has been an exercise in preemption that pumped liquidity into an economy protected from pain. The theory was there must be a better way than a cyclical economy, but the credit and retail sectors have seen a crisis of overproduction and it must be flushed out before any new money is scattered, otherwise it will be lost and someone else will be burdened with the cost. We are levering up the height of the platform from which we must fall, that's all.

In the UK, there is now an annual moral panic every August when GCSE and A-level results are released.[citation needed] The pass rate by students has consistently risen for past two decades and Grade inflation is attributed to rising pass rates.[citation needed] Comparisons between examination questions are often produced as evidence of dumbing down (in mathematics as syllabus has been continuously cut during the past year. For example, an algebraic equation would be compared to a recent question about a "real life" problem).[citation needed]
A secondary school physics teacher, Wellington Grey, ran an Internet petition, stating that "I am a physics teacher. Or, at least I used to be." According to him, "Calculations ù the very soul of physics ù are absent from the new GCSE.". Few examples he listed ranged from "`Q:why would radio stations broadcast digital signals rather than analogue signals? A: Can be processed by computer / ipod [sic]" to "`Q: Why must we develop renewable energy sources?Æ"[1]

Well, the standard of education is certainly better in Holland. At least they come out of high school with some knowledge of basic math and spelling which is more than I can say for high schools in the UK.
With what comes out of our schools, I'm beginning to wonder if Drinking and Vandalism are primary curriculum subjects in British schools now, most kids are pretty goood at those subjects.
AS for the Sterling Currency, it's dead and has been since we joined the EU but it just won't lie down. When the UK refused to join the single currency, I said that the EU would start to devalue the pound in an effort to force the change. There may be a recession worldwide but I don't see the Euro losing much ground to the Dollar, maybe now the old school traditionalists are thinking they should never have voted against the change.

Now I understand why when I graduated from school I could go straight into a British uni but the Brits have to pass exams to get into Dutch ones. Well done to the UK, I am sure you can do better, the system doesn't equal that of Zimbabwe yet. We wouldn't want to let anyone feel like they weren't at home now would we?
Because holland is know for its great uni's, or am i getting mixed up with sex and drugs trade.
There may be a recession worldwide but I don't see the Euro losing much ground to the Dollar, maybe now the old school traditionalists are thinking they should never have voted against the change.
wow, stop reading the daily mail please. thanks

Well I'm half Irish.. so just wanted to check.
I'm selling a property in the South of Ireland in mid/late Jan. Hopefully this graph will continue for a bit yet! But knowing my luck it will probably be back to normal by then.

I have a cunning plan to help get liquidity into the housing market next year, which admittedly isn't helpful if you're planning on leaving the UK.. but keep ú25 aside and I will post you a link in mid-late Jan when it goes into beta.

Afraid I can't until the project is in Beta. At the moment we're on target for that being sometime between 19th and 26th.
As far as the ú25 being a legitimate investment, I will say their will be winners and losers.. and also that it's taken over 3 months to workout the legals for the project.
Anyway.. I will make a note to post in oope when it's live.

That would be illegal. It's not a scam. It does however skirt around some legislation that has nearly zero case law at present, hence our nightmare getting the lawyers to sign-off the T's and C's. I promise I will post the URI here (well not this thread) when it's ready in three+ weeks.

The reason that Limeys and Yanks insult each other so much is because we see ourselves in each other.

Right, can I just add this:
ENGLAND IS NOT THE UNITED KINGDOM.
THE UNITED KINGDOM IS NOT ENGLAND.
That's like saying the 'Washington President' instead of the 'US President'. Sounds ridiculous, huh? And I can guarantee you that the members of the states wouldn't be happy at that. Oh! Guess what! Neither are the Scots, Northern Irish and Welsh at hearing about 'English' Foreign Policy etc.
Yes I'm bitter. I have to live with this all the bloody time.

We need an English parliment to be honest. Then we can abolish the parliment and use a quorum voting system of the two parliments (English and Scottish) and associated assemblies (Welsh and Northern Irish) to decide what to do. No voting twice for the scot's MPs anymore!
