a. For a person running level 4 missions, is salvaging mandatory for good cash flow? Does 60% of your ISK flow come from running missions and 40% from salvaging? More? Less?
If you do salvage, do you skip frigates or cruisers? Are there any ways to cut down on time required for salvaging for efficiency? I use a tractor, of course.
b. are refining skills helpful for missions runners? Which ones? A lot of the buy orders for items found on missions are so low that reprocessing is probably advisable.
Any other economic suggestions for the missioner?

a. I get at least 10 mil from salvage so its definitely worth it. To cut down on the salvage time use a dedicated ships with salvager rigs and train your salvaging skill.
b. selling the components earn you more money afaik.

Thank you.
I forgot to ask, what is the best thing to do with the salvage if you do not use it to create items? Just sell it outright?
How much training does it require to actually make use of salvage to create items and such? Is that a profitable venture?

You need production skills to produce rigs from the salvaged goods. (The rigging skill associated with the rig, e.g., armor rigging 1 is required for tech 1 trimark; you should also have Production Efficiency skill to 4 or 5.) As with any other industrial aspect of the game, there is isk to be made on producing the right good and selling it on the right regional market.

Best ship for dedicated salvager is the Catalyst, but any Destroyer will work fine due to increased cargo hold, 8xhigh slots and capacitor. Fit with 4xSalvager mods and 4xTractors and pull all the wrecks to you. Fit MWD as you'll be returning to BMed wrecks after mission turn-in so you can use it to move faster.
Sell any loot worth 50k+ (others say 100k so this is subjective) and reprocess the rest. Save this up in your hangar until you can place bulk sell orders to make the most out of it. IMHO, not worth training any skill to make this more efficient.
Sell salvaged components as getting all the bits/skills to make rigs does not appear to be cost effective. Again, save this up in your hangar and haul in bulk to set up sell orders.
Now I use an alt to set my sell orders and watch the market, but when I first started I took some Trade skill training to place my own.
That'll get some serious ISKies flowing most efficiently. *** Had a T1 sig - it got all blowed up. Got another T1 sig - it got all blowed up too. Can't afford another T1 sig...yet. Still training for T2 sigs, f...ing newb that I am. |

a. Salvage depends on what you are salvaging. Serpentis for example gives horrible salvage and is generally not worth salvaging. Angel on the other hand gives excellent salvage and is definately worth it. I generally don't bother if it's less than 10-15 wrecks or more than 1 jump away. You can earn more money doing another mission and getting bounties. For L3 and below this is not true, the salvage is generally worth the time, given that bounties are much lower. Catalyst 'Super Salvaging' fitting : 4 * salvager 4 * tractor beam 1 * AB 1 * cap booster 3 * expanded cargo hold Fit T2 if possible. If you manage to exceed the 820+ m3 cargo hold drop some loot (scrap metal preferred) and drag that can around with a tractor beam. Always keep salvage and expensive goodies in the cargo hold. If it's worth it, you can pick up the overflow in the can later with the catalyst or a hauler.
b. buy orders are always low, that's why you need to put up sell orders (advanced button when you select sell) with a good price. Eventually someone will buy it.
c. You could go ninja salvaging.

When I "run" level 4 missions in highsec, 100% of my income comes from salvaging. Why bother with the bounties and mission rewards when other people are doing it for you all the time? Just salvage from their missions.
If you want to run missions for money, go to lowsec where the payouts are so good that you won't want to take time to salvage.
