Hello, the subject says it all I think. I am not clear that I have this request in the right category/subcategory.
OpenSolaris is a free UNIX implementation for x86/x64 hardware. The libraries are subtly different from linux, though, so the EVE linux client doesn't run even though the installer goes all the way to the end.
I work for Sun, so my laptop runs OpenSolaris, with a Windows partition to play EVE. I would really like to blow the Windows partition away and just have OpenSolaris.
Since you have compiled the EVE client for linux, and the language in play is python, and the installer already works, I think that the port to OpenSolaris should be achievable.
If you have any specific questions about compiling on OpenSolaris, I can either answer them or get the answer.
I am willing to test early release implementations.

Uh Unless I'm mistaken... the Linux Client.. including the Mac ones... ARE NOT NATIVE clients.
They are in-fact Windows code being run in WINE environments respectively.
Just different implementations of WINE so to speak.
If they where native... they would certainly behave more efficiently... not to mention better >.<; =============== CEO of Clan Shadow Cadre www.shadowcadre.com =============== |

they have already announced that they plan to do heavy improvements on the linux and mac clients. On the other hand, and OpenSolaris client? Sun admins wanna play Eve er? Well, if you work for sun, i'm sure you can afford a windows laptop/desktop
I'm not pro-windows myself, but asking them to add more workforce/coders on the project, I recon is not feasible at all.

CCP has a partnership with Transgaming. Transgaming provides CCP with a limited version of its Cedega program to function as a linux/mac wrapper around the windows client.
If you want OpenSolaris support, you'll have to take it up with Transgaming. They will say: No ROI, thus not interested.

I was not aware of the Transgaming dependency. I will look into that further. My initial glance at their website doesn't have onerous dependencies.
I thought the client was native. If it was, then a compile/relink for OpenSolaris wouldn't be too hard. I get many opensource apps to compile/run on Solaris/OpenSolaris all the time. Wine for example.
As for the other comment, outside of ATM machines, OS/2 is pretty dormant and BeOS is dead. OpenSolaris is a live operating system with a fairly vibrant (if wildly opinionated sometimes) user base, with some interesting development underway.
I was upfront about my employment and reasons for wanting an OpenSolaris EVE client. I thought it would be easy. Thus my request.
