Why is it yours? Its space junk
Loot is yours because its the spoils of war. Salvage is just junk to be claimed by whoever gets their first, just like in real life.

CCP made it this way so that there is a constant source of lolthreads to make the forum a happier place.

Because too many missionrunners would get killed when shooting the salvager who salvaged their wreck and gave the missionrunner aggro rights, only to come back in a bigger ship and wtfpwnbbq the missionrunner.
After that, too many missionrunners would come on the forums to complain that they got killed when shooting said salvager.

Study up on EvE mechanics sometime.
Salvage elongs to anyone who can salvage it; this is in part to help alleviate lag, since a lot of missionrunners will loot but not salvage. That prevents the spacelanes getting cluttered up with wrecks and cans.
loot IS yours, however - that was established LONG before the salvage mechanic even came into being. Loot belongs to you and causes a flag, salvage 9wrecks) do not.
That's the way it is - it's not gonna change anytime soon, so deal with it.

1 - Increase your ships sensor strength 2 - Use ships with lower sig radius 3 - Only use drones when you really need too 4 - GTFO of that mission hub 5 - Salvage/loot as you go 6 - Have a new character who would appreciate the extra isk salvage/loot as you do the mission 7 - Speed run missions because most of the time it's better than going back for loot and salvage
All things you can do to reduce the chance of you being ninja'd.

This
Salvaging is a mini profession. One that CCP supports. Time to isk, speed running missions is almost always better, until you hit level 4's.

As it happens, it isn't. Salvage belongs to whoever claims it first. Live with it.

Mission in lowsec. Then you can shoot anyone who comes in your mission, for any reason, or even no reason. You don't even have to wait for them to flash red.
I'm 100% sure nobody who comes in your mission in lowsec will be there to steal your salvage either. Wins all around!

Same reason why someone can salvage "your" asteroids if they scan down your mission and mine away at the rocks in your mission (if there's one there). If they were flagged to you, what would you do, shoot them?
Then you would lose your ship, and be crying about that instead.
See jet can mining for reference.
