Anyone who used missiles pre and post QR certainly has, asuming they've been paying attention. It's a required mod now (imo) but sucks that it takes yet more from our tank.

Now wouldnt the sig radius help on smaller frigs and stuff? I mean if you can light up a ceptor to cruiser sig radius, those medium guns will make real short work on it when they hit.
Or are TPs just useless for turrets?

Well, since a BS can speed tank cruise missiles and torpedos with an AB now, they're almost mandatory for larger class targets too.

TPs are underrated. They completely remove the main combat advantage that smaller ships have. T2 Minmatar EW boats also have web bonus, which completely removes the other combat advantage they have...speed

Your not going to make up for the gap in size between an interceptor and a medium turret using target painters.
You will see the biggest results using a target painter on targets closer to your own size.
Basicly a TP is like a souped-up tracking computer that is shared by everyone who is shooting at the painted target.

Edited by: Harrent on 07/01/2009 05:27:32 Do target painters stack off original value?
Say a frig is 50m
you get a PWNAGE on him its then 50M * 130% = 65M
Put a second its (50M * 130%) + (50M * 130%) = 80M?
Correct? Or is it going off of the PWNAGE'd value of 65 making the equation, (50M * 130%) * 130% = 84.5M?
EDIT: The values are adding the original size of the frig (hence 130% instead of orginal value + orginal value * 30%) for simplification purposes. 2ó have been added to this thread. |

Are Target-Painters good for missiles ? Do they help with the damage malus on bigger missile types vs smaller ships too ?
If so - how much in % does the damage change ?
I ask this because i use Sensor-Boosters on my cruiser so that it targets faster vs Frigs (and also for the bonus to range)and want to know the difference (except that Targetpainter works for all others that shoot on the target too)
sorry for the noobish questions and my bad english

Funny, I was just asked about these by a corp mate, I always used to use them when a few of us fleeted for a level four mission, it worked a treat, however I have never used one while soloing said missions. Wonder if I should think about then instead of a tracking comp.

I do a 400 damage per cruise missile with 3 BCU, post patch it was mandatory for me with my skills to fit a TP. Without TP my damage is like 140 on 500k bs rats' resistances, with two T1 TPs it grows to 240. Battlecruiser do like instapop even without TP still, and I cannot shoot a cruiser without TP and drones.
TP works fine especially for drones attacking elite frigs.

For missions I would generally recommend sticking with the tracking comp: too much hassle switching targets for the TP, in my opinion.
TP's excel in small gang combat.

Edited by: Jarne on 08/01/2009 14:28:02 Keep in mind that target painters stack with the MWD of the target. At least it was this way before QR. That means target painters will generally be less effective on targets which use their MWD (which made them not useless against nanos).
With the changed missile formula and the turret tracking formula as it is, it might finally be some kind of long-range/lesser-effective webber. With a 30% painter and max skills on a bonused ship you can reach a factor of over 1.5, which is comparable to a 34% webber (due to the inverse proportionality of speed and signature radius in the tracking formula). With 30+km optimal and a huge fallof!
In fallof, as I remember from tests, the module will either work 100% or 0%, on a chance based on the ratio of fallof/actual range. You will notice if it works just as with jammers. - Success=Achievements/Expectations

target painting is, sadly, a minmatar "electronic warfare" however, I think the golem has a bonus to it for some reason. |

2007??? I've been using target painters since I realized that a caracal with a TP equipped rocks. Way back when, I love that people laughed at me for using them and now they are great.
