anyone else playing it? Got it over the holidays, after finally getting the instal to work on my PC been playing it a bit. Have to admit I'm a little disappointed. I haven't played San Andres or Vice city, played GTA 3 on console. Haven't found this to be much different content wise, better graphics yeah it's got that. But haven't seen alot else really, think Rock* layed an egg with this title.

When they call the umpeenth part "IV" (oh noes earlier versions used the same engine ) it's the first hint they're milking you real good.
Other techniques involve releasing "prequels". (I got 5 isk here that say that word didnt even exist pre-****ing-up-starwars.)

5 of my mates ran off to get it because it was "Teh ****" and i was an idiot for believing that it would be a flop.
4 of'em returned it after the first couple of days and the fifth went so far as to use it as a frisby. ______________________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

It's poorly optimised for the PC, the shadows look rubbish, and having to log into windows live to play it is a joke. Oh, and it takes ages to load on starting the game.
Besides that though, I think it's a good game, the world is a bit more serious than in the previous games, the characters are strong, and it has its funny moments. Definitely do not regret buying it. It's fun, not as fun as previous games but at the same time still an improvement.
Another downside - no parachutes

I bought it, got frustrated with the annoyingly long installation process and signing into the internet to save my games, enjoyed it for a short while, then got bored of it. Its still installed on my PC waiting for me to complete it.

I got it for a present, the DRM, still yhaving to have the CD in the drive for it to work even though it has harsh DRM, the poor optimisation, the bad graphics because of the poor optimization and having to log into indows live games in order to save ..
Whatever, looking for a pirate torrent for it now, maybe it'll be better without all the extra crap weighing it down. |

I got it for PC the day it came out. I was kinda expecting disappointment, because the previous GTA titles were very much focused on fun gameplay, rather than amazing shiny whiz-bang graphics. I really came into this game expecting for it to suck. Also, I read a great deal of trouble reports from people who couldn't install the game, or couldn't play without crashing, or folks who fried their video cards playing GTA 4.
Well, what I found couldn't be farther from the truth. The game installed in 15 minutes, it runs like a dream. I think I can recall one crash while playing it, and that's probably because I had a crapton of background applications running. Performance-wise I have no complaints, but really, I have to laud this as one of the most simply fun games made in a very long time. You have a plot you can stick to if you want to, but casual interaction with the game world is what's kept me really amused. There's something fun about driving a burning SUV at 120mph down a sidewalk crammed with pedestrians, only to jump from the blazing vehicle moments before it crashes into a traffic jam and explodes, setting off giant chain reaction blasts, killing dozens of innocent bystanders. Man.

just get san andreas, because that game was $&%&ing awesome. or get saints row 2, which is very similar to san andreas but a with a bunch of little things added to make the game more fun, but I would still get san andreas to because it has some things that saints row doesn't have. -------------------------------------

Wow, did not know that. I didn't think anyone was even designing games for the dual core let alone the quads
Having said that, I already bought this for the PS3 (only GTA4 and Blu Ray play abilities were the reasons I bought the PS3) and I don't want to spend more money on the same game, even though I like it a lot. This would probably be one of the few games that I would pirate without feeling guilty
BTW, what's your videocard/HD/RAM setup?

I have a q6600, still crashes, i also have 880mb of GFX memory which apparently isn't enough for it either.

HAHA i got it on Xbox 360 it was great, i'd say it was better than all of the previous ones (I prefer more serious games with the exception of conkers bad fur day). The only problem is IV had no idea of what it wanted to be, serious or funny, and as a result there were some pretty irritating moments. Otherwise it was a pretty solid game, just the right length, any longer and it would have been too repetative. When i got it i played it non stop all day for a week (hey i'd just finished exams ) completed it twice for both endings. Graphics and atmosphere was superb, but i think they should have had more thug missions at the beggining (got a gun and pretty much infinate ammo on like the 5th mission).
fake edit: Oh isnt Xbox 360 users getting a DLC for free?

Amen. Driving sports cars down "Ocean Drive", shooting up shopping malls and leaping out of helicopters onto my film studio, that was when the game was fun to play. San Andreas wasn't bad per sT, had some cool things but the whole gangland warfare thing was so fekking annoying. Miami Vice whoops LA Gangsta any day of the week.
Tried GTAIV on 360...I started getting virtual calls from a virtual girlfriend who I then had to drive round to to pick up and take on a virtual date. I had to take her bowling, to a bar then back to her place for virtual "hot coffee". Turned it off at that point and haven't looked at it since.
And I've heard the DRM and internet aspects of the PC version are such a headache...there've been posts on this forum about it around release, I couldn't put up with that. I buy a game, install it with my serial key, download a nocd crack and am done. I've heard the Steam version gets around a lot of this somewhat but am not sure on how. I believe you just sign in to steam as you do for any game but anyone who uses it can probably tell you better. -------------
