As ive been flying around parts of the Black Rise, engaging in interceptor combat agaisnt enemies, ive come to notice a clear and defined, yet unmentioned honour and want for a 1v1. More so than any other form of combat in eve...
Ive noticed players in all forms of ceptors that engage me seem to (in the way they fly) give alittle tip of the hat and a kind of strange, but uniform understanding between the two pilots when in combat, almost like Jousting Knights.
Im just curious if there are anyone out there that picks up on this?
Of course this isnt about everyone, ive been in fights with pilots decloaking Logistics and falcons on me aswell, so much respect is lost there imho. When it comes to ceptor skill it doesnt matter that your 5months or 5years old they are equal threats.
I Guess this is what draws me to this sort of fighting. Anyone else feeling the ceptor vibe post QR?

Now I haven't engaged in many ceptor duels but yes, that is the feeling I do get, strangely enough. It also does happens in the rare 1vs1 assault frig fights I've had. Makes the combat quite enjoyable even if you lose the duel.

I really much like these ceptor fights as well, and they more often than not seem to be 1v1's and stay that way... Which is of course very cool. Hats off to all the ceptor (and to some extent, AF) pilots roaming Black Rise! ---

Agree on the logistics at least in your corp, disagree on honored fights. This is Eve, not some knights game. I would be so honest and deny a 1v1 when I have backup on my side and being asked by the enemy, as I would always call in my support in any fight necessary.

i've noticed it too, and i think it's partially cause ceptor combat tends to occur far away from main blobs and is over before the reinforcements can warp in.

This plays a large part in it. It is difficult to interrupt ceptor fights. Also, ceptors are suited for pilots that want to fight solo, since ceptors lend themselves to avoiding the blobs. ____

I had an Interceptor duel today in the middle of a fleet fight.I lost it but it was indeed amazing. We dogfighted between the larger ships trading broadsides.

gotta admit... inty 1 v 1 is about the only fight where I've seen it stay 1 v 1 in a while.
Just 2 days ago I had a 1 v 1 with a guy who had a fleet a jump or 2 away, I had the same. It stayed 1 v 1. made a nice change tbfh.

It's most likely because once you find another inty pilot, you both know your ships have (For the most part, you all know what I mean) the same abilities, and that you're up against a fair fight.
People tend to try to avoid combat if they know for a fact they are outgunned, or will lose due to some other mitigating factor, but with intys, most of the other mitigating factors can be erased with speed, so you know there's pretty much a 50/50 chance. This lends itself to more enjoyable fights, fights you're much more willing to take on and actually have fun in. ---O-H--S-H-*-T---

I've noticed the same thing. I've lost a fair number, and also won a few. But in all cases there's a simple "gf" in local from both of us and we go our separate ways(me often to a clonevat).
I think it's because interceptor fights often last under a minute from when the first module is activated. The interceptor and AF perfectly suite needs of a solo pilot, and are less expensive than a well fit T1 cruiser.

Ceptor combat maybe. But intys and frigs in general are the biggest wreck who-res in the game and never seem to share. Thus I hate them all and am greatly amused when they die.

If someone's going to put in the time and effort to learn 'ceptor combat, then it would be kind of anti-climactic to have heavies show up and ruin an elegant fight. A good dogfight has a certain aesthetic appeal, and this "honour" mentioned by the OP is the result of being in the frame of mind to appreciate it. It's a kind of zen in my mind anyways.

What makes these fights so elegant? I'm not a ceptor pilot but how is it superior to a frigate or cruiser fight? You have your orbit set at a different range??

'Ceptor duels are indeed the closest thing that EvE has to swords at dawn (or guns at noon).
Why?
Because aside from 'dictors, 'ceptors are probably the most 'player skill' intensive ships in the game.
Player piloting skill (as opposed to char skills) in EvE comes down to manually flying your ship and micro-managing your modules. 'Ceptors need you to do both of these at high speed in a ship with very little HP buffer where reaction time is critical and a mistake can cost you your life.
In contrast, most other ship fights in EvE are more like boxing than fencing with the protaganists bashing away at each other until one of them finally succumbs.
Personally, I like the fact that ceptors still offer the possibility for reasonably fair fights - or at least as fair as you can possibly get in EvE anyway.
If you haven't tried flying them yet, you should - they are addictive

I would say cruisers allow for a certain amount of pilot error, ceptors generally do not. You find out very quickly if you've got it right or wrong in your planning and execution.

I have noticed this. I have been roaming black rise/essence in a Ranis the past week and have been loving any 1 v 1 inty fights that i've come across. There is never any smack involved just the quick majestic duel to the death.
Any fight that starts with the silent challenge/acceptance of challenge, when both parties approach each other to fight is always a good one - win or lose. |

It's about as much like 'flying' as speed clicking a flash ap on a web page. It isn't what I'd exactly call a skill. I think they should put in a UI for frigate class hulls to fly with a joystick and go first person view. Now that would be skill. |

If your in black rise there maybe some repo guys around, they are involved in a contract against our corp and were kind enough to accept my offer of a few AF 1 v 1's, great guys even kind enough to return the loot afterwards. The first fight was one of those down to the wire fights, was really fun. I'm kicking myself for changing my setup for second fight.

Yep, I can confirm this.
Black Rise is a great place to roam solo in an inty or AF. I had some memorable fights there and I liked them all, no matter if I won or lost.

Playing since Spring 2007, there are few things these days that get my pulse up when I engage in a fight (usually cold calculations on whats going on and what to expect).
Interceptors dueling is the exception. Lot of excitement considering you don't have much of a margin of error.
