I tried to pop on to change a skill on my mac today and the client wouldn't load up.
Basically you click on it and it just sits there in the dock, I checked top and it said that wineserver is sitting there grinding eating 99% cpu and doing nothing.
I tried installing a new client and rebooting, still getting the same problem, anyone else have this issue recently?
The client was working fine last week.

So you've successfully run up eve since the last patch?
Personally I'd try removing/renaming the preferences folder and restarting the client to see if it clears the problem. If it does it's probably a cache/settings issue.

I'm having the same problem. In activity monitor, wineserver sits at 100% cpu when I try to start the app. I left it for over an hour and it hadn't started yet. I downloaded and installed the whole client again (not just a patch, although it did make me install a patch as well) and it still did the same thing. I removed the Library/Preferences/EVE Online Preferences folder and it still does the same thing. It ran fine a couple days ago. Running out of ideas...

Eventually I got it to work by grabbing my copy of EVE.app from Jan 8, 2009 in Time Machine. Still not sure what the problem was. FWIW, I have a single log file from when I was experiencing the problem, if anyone wants to see it.

I can't get it to work. It worked fine for me on 1/17/09. Now I can't run it at all. |

CCP helped me solve the problem. It was corrupt preference file. It now works.

If your preference file is your problem, go to your user folder, and either delete the Eve Preference folder, or replace it with an uncorrupted version. I used Time Machine to find a clean version of Eve Preferences.
Note, if you delete your eve preferences folder, you'll have to reset all of your settings.

I had the same problem again that I had in my previous post. I fixed it again by re-copying the EVE Online.app from before the patch. I cleverly kept a backup before I ran it, though I guess I could have used Time Machine again to get the old version. It made me install the patch again but it works now. It seems that the current version runs okay but gets corrupted easily and then won't run at all. This is the third re-install I have had to do with this version. |
