Edited by: Antraxor on 10/01/2009 04:10:22 I'm a Minmatar pilot, and up until this point mostly concentrated on no ships larger then cruisers/hac's.
So I'm thinking about moving up to BS's for lvl 4 missioning for the first time, so I'm wondering what are the "best" missioning battleships these days? When I last played it was Raven followed by Domi, has this changed?
Aside from that, I'm not too familiar with the other races, but I also want to take in to consideration the other ships that I will be able to fly. Im looking to find a race that has a combo of a great missioning BS and some fun smaller ships to fly, because I will only be using BS for missioning. I'm currently spec'd to use assult frigs, hac, cov ops, and have plans on doing interceptors and recon someday.
Any opinions?

Drake is at least as good as any Raven setup I ever put together for level 4's and I used the Raven pre-patch so I still had the more efficient missiles. Active shield hardener resistance tank w/ DCU II backed up by a couple of LSE's and an afterburner to keep you moving ahead of the incoming battleship fire basically means you never have to warp out as you drop the cruisers and battlecruisers in three or four volleys each. Some people seem to swear by a shield recharge tank but you lose three BCU's with that. |

Amarr of course. Even starting fresh you will get to T2 large lazorz long before they get thier turn at the nerfbat and minnies are next up for a buff so you would be very well placed for multiple fotm ships.

Edited by: Acrel on 10/01/2009 10:52:00 None really stand out as the best atm.. Amarr seem to be the FOTM but it seems that all in all everything is somewhat balanced. Matari BS/Caps are the only ones that are really **** from what i can tell(though others would disagree).
If you need to train for BSs depending on your skill set I would recommend any other race other then Minmatar..
Seriously just pick a random one, all of them are about the same.

My choice to complement Minmatar is Caldari, shield tanking crossover, missiles crossover, FOTM Recon.. :p
On the other hand a choice to complement Caldari is probably Gallente. And the choice to complement Amarr, more Amarr, or Gallente. :p

Stick with Minnie and if you must, crosstrain for Gallente so you can get into do the Dramiel/Cynabal/Machariel path. Sexiest boats out there and loads of fun.

I am in the same boat as you in terms of cross training, however I am Gallente.
Lots of skill points to specificaly fly the mega and domi only. I cannot recommend these ships enough if you are looking solely at the battleship class. Mega for sniping, and domi for gate camping and PVE. A nice triple threat if you ask me.
That being said, after much thought I have decided to go Amarr for their cruiser class ships. Zealot, and Curse have owned for a long time now IMO. Not to meantion the geddon replaces the mega in many situations that I fly it in. The Apoc will also probably replace the Mega in fleet situations, from a dmg stand point it cannot be beat. Out of all combat in eve I enjoy sniping the most and I figure with Amarr and Gallente I will always have a good sniper at my disposal.
Old line up:
Sniping - Mega Gate Camping - Domi PVE - Domi Roaming - Brutix/Mega/crow any other fast crap in my hanger(roaming has been my weakness, as I have never trained for HACS) Capital - Thanny/Moros
New line up:
Sniping - Apoc/Mega Gate Camping - Domi/Geddon PVE - Domi Roaming - Zealot/Curse Capital - Thanny/Rev/Moros

Now we know whats wrong with you. You're a Nasty Girl!
Back on topic. Go for Caldari, they shield tank like I do with most minnie setups. Of course when I was a noob, decided to cross train Cald-Gal. Was a waste in the beginning, but I have been getting the best of most of the nerfs. Sensor damps get nerfed, ECM is good. Missles get nerfed, blasters rock. Blasters and misssles got nerfed, umm... Crap, time to train Amarr! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Eh, avoid training anything that that has these three words together: Caldari, Shield Tank, Missiles.
Gallente is fine for missions and mean as sh*t for pvp.

BEWARE FOTM
I think it depends what you do. Do you armor tank? Train to Amarr or Gallente. Do you use Missiles heavily or shield tank? Train to caldari.
All of the races have good ships and bad ships, but for PvE, Gallente with their drones, and Caldari with missiles, beat the other two races. As for PvP, thats a matter of taste, but Caldari has better Ewar, but drones and missiles both suck in a fleet due to the travel time. -Xindi Kraid: Delivering acerbic wit and scathing comments with just a dash of 'stab you in the eye' |

Or do what I did, and train everything on one char or another, and then you can always fly the flavour of the month. Only time I will be in trouble is if the FOTM is T2 Minmatar BS or Minmatar Caps, but how likely is that ?

I specialise in Gallente ships, and I can tell you that the Gallente line-up is not on top, at all.
Drone ships in PvP are not very good, so the Vexor and the Domi, as drone-boats don't work very well. There are some applications for these ships in PvE, but it PvP only the Domi has some potential in certain circumstances. In PvE, drones in general are difficult to manage compared to turret and especially missiles. I fly the Arazu a lot, and frankly, I have no real justification to do so. Damps have been over-nerfed and the ship is severely limited for fitting, even with Recon V, which I have. Again, use of the Arazu is topical and pales in comparison with the Falcon. All other Recons are better in fact (Except perhaps the Minnie one). The Thorax used to be a good PvP ship, but the recent changes hit blaster boats pretty hard, so, again although still viable in certain circumstances, it is certainly not uber in any way shape or form. The Kronos is a nice PvE ship but way over-priced for PvP and the Paladin outclasses it in most aspects. The Gallente cap-ships are nice but hardly affordable outside large alliances still. The Iskur is still an AF though one of the better and the Ishtar has been hit by the QR changes pretty hard.
So that leaves the Mega, the Domi in some circumstances, the Ishtar in some circumstances, and the Taranis as a speciality ship. Hardly uber. In fact, all races, perhaps the Minnies, are pretty balanced right now, with the exception of perhaps the Falcon. If CCP would buff projectiles and some Minnie ships and nerf the Falcon or ECM, it would be truly balanced.
As a complementary race to the Minnies I would recommend Gallente though, just because the Machariel is so bloody cool. Damn skill intensive though ... -- Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? |

You obviously don't use a Paladin. Minmatar are pretty much the suckage race for PvE it seems... unless ratting Angels I suppose. |

I am Gallente & minmatar spec, now I have caldari cruiser 5 for falcon. Alt has amarr spec & caldari spec.
I use Gallente for their BS & caps, minmatar for their HACS/recons (not so much any more), and caldari just for the falcon. Since QR I have flown Gallente a lot more, I find the Arazu more useful than rapier, and Ishtar is cool too.
My alt flys the apoc, geddon, raven, with as well as the curse, and can also fly a falcon now.
I find myself using my alt for a "main" role in small gangs & NPCing missions etc, and this char as a support role. The only exception is when I am using the neutron-mega. |
